Which kitten would you choose?

We have reserved a ragdoll kitten - they are currently 4 weeks old and there's a litter of 5. We have asked for a girl and there are two (Same colouring and both absolutely gorgeous!) One is more timid and loves being picked up and held. The other is more playful and loves fighting with her brothers! We get to choose but are not sure which personality would suit us better.

Our last cat was very aggressive and swiped a lot. She had no time for our son. He is such an animal lover and is so gentle. Part of me thinks the more timid one would be better for him as it would be lovely for him to be able to hold and stroke her. However if she's too timid, she might be a bit frightened of him I guess (he's a typical boisterous 4 year old.)

I should think they are quite expensive though, so that maybe is a consideration, but you know - life is too short to not have kitties in your life ❤️

AnnaMagnani · 04/05/2021 21:59

Both, never have just one kitten.

ChequerBoard · 04/05/2021 21:59

Absolutely both, if that is possible. If the second kitten is still available the breeder may offer a good discount on the second d kitten. Good breeders live their kittens to go in pairs!

I went to choose one kitten (we already had an older cat) and came back with a matching pair!

Imagine if my dd had chosen only 1??

Oh now you are all making me feel guilty as I genuinely wanted two, but think they are all reserved now Sad

Both. It's better for them and you halve your input entertaining them.

Are you sure it's not a mirror? Grin

Are you sure ?? Oh nooooo 😪😪😪

I think I'm just so wary of making the wrong choice as our last cat was absolutely beautiful, but a complete nightmare. She was so loved and we miss her so much but she was hard work!

I'd go for the one who liked you and let you hold and stroke her.

IWouldntBother · 04/05/2021 22:04

Growing up I always wanted a deal point Ragdoll.
When I went to choose my kitten there was a friendly seal mitted and a seal point which ran away from me and up the curtains.
I took the seal point.

He's 12 now, a right mummy's boy and the softest cat in the world.

Go for the one you prefer, you don't know how they're going to turn out when they're older

Fundays12 · 04/05/2021 22:05

I got a kitten recently and have 3 kids including a boisterous 4 year old. I have an older docile cat already. The kitten who is now 7 months old was the most confident and boisterous one so fitted in great with our family. A timid kitten would have hot frightened much more easily I thought. She was a real handful between 12 and 17 weeks and is quite a strong minded kitty but we all love her and she seems to love us. I would go with the more confident kitten.

That is so reassuring to hear. Thanks for sharing Smile

Guessing being an only dcat contributed to your previous dcat being a nightmare.

IWouldntBother · 04/05/2021 22:06

This is my lump of lard
Ragdoll cats are notoriously friendly so I wouldn't be too concerned about getting an aggressive one

AbstractHeart · 04/05/2021 22:07

I'd go for the one that loves being held. Ragdolls are not typically "lap cats" so the other one might not be as affectionate as you want. Also a playful cat needs a lot of attention and may become stressed and difficult as an adult if you can't provide that.

Gingernaut · 04/05/2021 22:10

Will the new kitten be the only pet in the household?

Are either of the kittens bonded with a sibling?

Mumdiva99 · 04/05/2021 22:11

I'm with everyone saying get both!!

We got 2 kittens last year - one was playful, inquisitive, lap kitten. The other was cautious, timid and slow to give affection. 1 year on they are completely different. Kitten 1 - only gives love when and where she wants to - and to who she wants. Kitten 2 is more affectionate, likes playing with toys.

So don't think how they are now is how they will end up.

Aprilshowersandhail · 04/05/2021 22:12

Our 2 8 years ago , sadly lost 1 last year...
Got a dkitten in December he was so stressed and miserable...

The opposite actually. She hated other cats and had terrible redirected aggression - she would attack us whenever she saw another cat in the garden. She was a rescue cat and had been in a fight with another cat when she was a kitten which resulted in a bad injury (maggot infested and had to be operated on.) She had a very bad start in life and although she had a lovely life with us, she was always on edge.

I'd go for the confident one, I was advised years ago to always avoid the shy, nervous one in litters of both cats and dogs and it's worked out well for me so far.

Good choice on the breed, Ragdolls are beautiful and very placid and friendly by nature.

CervixHaver · 04/05/2021 22:26

The one which loves being picked up and held! 10000000% Those types of mellow cats are rare and are amazing with kids

Longdistance · 04/05/2021 22:26

You can have two. Get rid of the dh Wink

SwimmingOnEggshells · 04/05/2021 22:27

I would say the confident one.

I went for two from a litter; one timid and sweet (female) and one confident (male). Both were used to being around children and have grown up to be lovely cats. But, what I will say is that my timid girl is still a bit timid and can get very cranky with her brother. She's quite aloof and is happy it sit in her favourite spot for most of the day. He, on the other hand is the most entertaining, funny, charismatic, cuddly, chatty, chilled out prince of a cat.
