Thanks @swampytiggaa I hadn't thought about internal stitches, the external ones look ok. She has had a little bit more food and a wash, and is now purring on my daughter's bed, so I am hoping this is all a good sign. She seems very up and down so will keep an eye and call the out of hours vet if she gets all shivery and lethargic again. Such a worry when they can't tell you anything!!

swampytiggaa · 11/03/2021 20:48

Basically 2 of mine had to be opened up and restitched again. Little shits had been climbing the curtains the day after their ops.

TheLongRider · 12/03/2021 08:59

Aarghh! Multi-cat household with 5 cats with three different types of cat food specific to their needs.

There is a miniscule period of time that scientists have not quantified yet that exists when one cat abandons their food bowl and goes for another cat's food. Even if the food bowls are separated by space, the wrong cat somehow teleports to the other food bowl in the splitest of split seconds! I then have to intervene to evict the interloper and restore the right cat to the right food bowl. I spend a lot of their meal times lunging for a bowl or a cat.

The cats swap bowls silently, usually reckoning that the other bowl will contain tastier food even if their own bowl is heaped high with food.

I wouldn't change it for the world though...

Ollie has been outside for ages, couldn't see where he had gone
He's just come back and brought paws with him 🥺🥺🥺🥺

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/03/2021 10:07

@seriouslynonames How is your girl today?.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/03/2021 10:08

You could buy those microchip cat bowls @TheLongRider. Not cheap though.

seriouslynonames · 12/03/2021 10:18

Hi @Fluffycloudland77 thanks for asking. She is up and down still. She slept ok and crawled into our bed this morning for a cuddle and purr. She has eaten a bit if wet and a little dry, but not loads, had a little water. But she is still not very active. She has spent the morning seeking out laps to sit on and just curls up and closes her eyes. I have taken off the onesie jacket for a break as she can't seem to walk comfortably in it and she is having marathon wash. So I'm not sure really! No obvious signs of significant pain but just not herself. Might give the vets a ring again in a bit if she doesn't perk up, although she has a 3 day check there tomorrow x

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/03/2021 10:25

I’d ring now, she doesn’t sound right to me.

TheLongRider · 12/03/2021 11:42

I had a look at some of the customer photos for one microchip bowl and there was a photo with two cats heads in one bowl. That wouldn't solve the problem!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 12/03/2021 11:44

Yes. I'd ring them now.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/03/2021 13:34

@seriouslynonames, did you book her in?. She should have perked up by now.

nettie434 · 12/03/2021 13:36

@QueenPaw

Ollie has been outside for ages, couldn't see where he had gone He's just come back and brought paws with him 🥺🥺🥺🥺
Oh I love it so much when Ollie and Paws are partners in crime cat related recreational activities. I imagine Ollie saying 'Come round to mine and let's see if we can scam some chicken.'

Seriouslynonames Hope the vet can suggest something and that your cat starts feeling more like herself.

seriouslynonames · 12/03/2021 14:01

Thanks all. She is still eating (less but more frequently) and had a little walk around when I took the onesie jacket off again - she seems much happier with it off, even jumped on the table. So I think the jacket might be a big part of it, but I'm monitoring as either way she's not right. But it's a big op I guess, so not sure what I should expect. When I rang the vet yesterday the vet nurse asked about eating (she is) and whether she seemed to wince in pain when I pick her up (she doesn't). They offered to supply more pain relief if I wanted it or to call again today if worse. She is booked in tomorrow morning anyway. I don't think she is worse and she doesn't wince so I haven't called again today (yet). DH is saying she's fine when the jacket is off so I'm trying not to fuss! But promise I will call if anything changes for the worse (or doesn't improve). Thanks again x

QueenPaw · 12/03/2021 14:45

@nettie434 paws just turned up again at the window, I had to bang on the window and mouth "the door!!" as I was on the phone and couldn't get to open the window
Paws "ah ha. Ok" and trotted to the patio door Confused

nettie434 · 12/03/2021 14:58

That is so funny QueenPaw. Paws is definitely clever, even if he comes in through the window backwards.

Seriouslynonames Perhaps cats are like people in terms of sensitivity to anaesthetics. Absolutely no idea if that is true but perhaps it might explain the lethargy? Large 'no expertise' sign needed here

sweetkitty · 12/03/2021 20:50

I have our weird black boy sleeping on me right now I thought I would share his weirdness with you all. He’s only one our third cat. He stalks about looking like he’s plotting the downfall of humankind most of the time (the DC nicknamed him Satan) his actual name is a Star Wats baddie! His brother is sporting scars and bald patches on his head right now from their play fights (I think it’s more he gets injured then get cleaned). Anyway he hates all the humans in the house apart from me but only at night time when I’m in my bed then he comes up and I get totally loved. Paws kneading, cuddling the whole lot, then I get slept on until someone else enters the room then he can’t cope and buggers off, he might tolerate DD1, he hates DH! He’s got it in for girl cat too, his speciality is waiting outside the cupboard where the litter boxes are and ambushing her or attacking her through the blinds at night. Ginger boy one year his senior is such a big placid boy too he loves everyone and he has this little black menace to contend with.

Do you think I should get another kitten just to annoy black boy GrinWink

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/03/2021 20:59

Get an extra dh if you want to really piss him off (and more trays, resource guarding like that can lead to the other cat weeing outside the box because their too scared to use the tray).

sweetkitty · 12/03/2021 21:49

I don’t think he’s resource guarding as he doesn’t care about food, he’s always last to the food bowls at feeding time (doesn’t pretend he’s not been fed in a fortnight like the other two and isn’t on the chubby side) I think he just likes a good fight!

Another DH Grin you must be mad over a kitten

TheSunIsStillShining · 13/03/2021 00:45

Hi!
I need some advice. 3 topics. We have a 4 months old ragdoll kitten, brought her home a month ago. She is stupid as hell, but makes up for it by being cute, cuddly and funny :) Never had any pets before. But we came across 3 things that are of slight concern.

  1. foul smelling, not too solid poop. She has been on Applaws tuna (wet), then we gave canagan chicken (wet). She loves both. Didn't have any issues in the first 2 weeks. Then we gave her whiskas for one day. And since then the smell is almost unbearable, and the "texture" is somewhat loose.
She eats about 2 tins/packs of wet food a day - c. 120-150g. Is that too much wet food that can cause this? Since she is a kitten we are not to rigorous about feeding times and schedule and thought that we can wait until about she's a year old to put her on a more strict timetable. She always has dry food out as well.
  1. still somewhat medical/health. today evening when stroking her we felt a lump. imagine cat standing, facing away -bum in your face- and you stroke the full cat from head to tail on both side simultaneously. A bit above her hip?/leg there is a little lump. We tried pushing it gently, no reaction - so it's not something that is causing pain. Anyone ever felt anything like this? Again, new to this whole thing and not perfect in cat anatomy (yet).
  1. this is totally diff. type of issue. How can you teach a cat not to go into a room? The bedroom is taboo. But as soon as I open the door she slips in and starts acting crazy (playfully). During the day it's not that annoying, but I want to be able to go out for a drink at night, or anything....
And we live in a rental, so fixtures, high gates are not an option.

Sorry for being so long and tia for answers :)

Paws can lip read? I am impressed.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 13/03/2021 11:38

@TheSunIsStillShining

I think I'd give the vet a call as she's so little. My lad gets a bum like that and I give him a probiotic powder for a week or so, but he's 6 and he's been prescribed it before.

The lump could well be normal. Again, my lad has one on his back, he's been prodded and poked by enough vets that I'm satisfied it's just the way he's made. Checked out by vets though, always better to be safe than sorry.

Good luck teaching a cat anything they don't want to do! The only way to keep a cat out of a room is to keep the door shut.

Please note that a picture of your cat should be included in your first Litter Tray post at the very least. 😁

QueenPaw · 13/03/2021 12:23

@TheSilveryPussycat I'm constantly amazed by how smart he is Grin
I mouthed "the door" and pointed and he understood. He also wakes me up by tapping on my bedroom door when he wants to go out and can open a drawer Confused
Meanwhile Ollie is refusing to go out the door because "is scary, an not a window. Strange"

TheSunIsStillShining · 13/03/2021 13:00

@YesItsMeIDontCare

Sorry about that, didn't know the proper protocol :)

Ahem. We still don't have a kitten photo. Unacceptable!

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/03/2021 13:18

You can use plain boiled chicken breast for a few days if they get loose stools.
