Feral in from the cold.

Fat Sam has decided that tonight is the night that the cold is too much.
This old man has been ruling the local area for at least 6 years. He’s fathered numerous kittens with Mrs cat (who refuse to come in from the cold, but does have a katden).
They both have meals together under our garden bench.
In November he accepted a cat bed by our back door and this week the addition of a hot water bottle.
So far my five have just looked at home and rolled over and gone back to sleep.
Fingers crossed for a peaceful night. I wonder what my chances are at getting him to vet the his week are.

@RickOShay

He’s just stopped purring, rolled over and is now snoring gently.
All other cats are asleep in various beds.
Hubby secretly very pleased Fat Sam is not outside.

Fat Sam does go out to do what cats need to do, he just sits on the step and waits, when he comes back he sits in his bed on the back deck. It’s under cover, has a heat pad and under floor heating from the diesel heater. I open the door and in he trots, straight to his towel in front of the fire.

Aww. He's not daft.

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/01/2021 18:43

Have you seen Mrs cat?. It’s so cold tonight.

For those with cats that have lost weight, I highly recommend Nutri-Vit plus for cats. It's a high calorie vitamin paste and it has really helped my poorly, underweight 17 year old girl with kidney disease as well as her sister who has thyroid issues.

What a fabulous person you are Star

@Fluffycloudland77
Yea she visits 3 times a day. Usually for food, but occasionally she brings in ‘takeaway’ in the form of a mouse. She has a katden with a thick towel and a thermal blanket. At night she sleeps in my neighbours ground source heat pump and boiler outhouse.
She is quite barrel shaped and has lovely deep, thick fur. She looking very healthy. My
neighbour also leaves her a ‘titbit’ bowl and milk for her eleven am walk past their patio windows. Fat Sam joins her, but doesn’t take her milk or food apparently!!! It’s obvious that the two adore each other, but like to have their own separate pads. Fat Sam is a lot older than Mrs cat.

@user1496345234

Oo! Thanks for that, I will look at getting him some. I’m quite happy to spend if it means he is happy.

@iMatter
People think it’s odd, but I owe my pets and animals in general, my sanity and they saved me more times than I care to think about.

@Bargebill19 my one tooth cat likes this, it's higher calorie as meant for v young kittens and easy to eat Smile I basically swapped everything to kitten food for him as he's only 3.2kg and despite eating like a horse has a tendency to drop weight

That’s another good idea! Thank you.
He’s just sat and watched the others have some dreamies - and wolfed a handful.

Mrs Cat knows how o sort herself out by the sound of it, a boiler house must be toasty.

Bargebill19 · 24/01/2021 19:49

He’s has discovered a tin of applaws? I had left from kittens being neutered. Lots of deep purring and miaowing, followed by contented purring and resuming of position in front of the fire.

@Fluffycloudland77 she isn’t daft is she! Whilst she is young and able, she’s got the freedom with supplemental food, warmth and shelter. Plus three daft humans who worry about her. 🤣

He looks so content. I agree with you about animals. They are the best. I’m glad he’s got you.

SparklingLime · 24/01/2021 20:15

This is wonderful! I hope he isn’t ill 🖤🖤

QueenPawPaws · 24/01/2021 20:31

Ah mine loves applaws! He must be in heaven

DartmoorDoughnut · 24/01/2021 20:34

Thank you for the kitten food tip Smile I’ll grab puss-cat some tomorrow she’s not super skinny I don’t think but she’s fed lost weight.

Here she is saying hello to Fat Sam

Bargebill19 · 24/01/2021 20:36

Fat Sam would say hello back , but he’s discovered a spot between radiator and fire...

Oh this has made me happy. Hope he has a while with you.

HighHeelBoots · 24/01/2021 21:31

Aww bless him. I hope he stays in and enjoys the comfort

Fuckingfuckssake · 24/01/2021 21:37

That's so lovely, I have 2 feral cats, one very thin scraggy one who after 6 years will now allow us to fuss him, he's come on so much this year, he actually has a shine to his coat (that'll be the fish oil I've been adding to his biscuits) we have a 2 level outside cat house with thermal blankets, try as we might he will not come in, he'll sit on the doormat but if we even attempt to shut the door he's off, I'd love so much to see him in front of the fire.

Santaiscovidfree · 24/01/2021 21:42

Op you are the best dcat slave I have ever read about.
It seems to be your true calling
My dd is currently befriending a battered Tom dcat. Her 2 dkittens adore him!! He seems drawn to them so hoping she can become half as good as you!

Shadysback · 24/01/2021 21:49

I hope the vet says he is OK when you take him. He looks so happy enjoying the warmth.

We have been adopted by a feral cat too. Over the last 6 weeks he's turned up every evening, and stayed all night. He is madly in love with our cat, but still far to wary of us for us to touch him. After much discussion with the vet, and cat protection people, and attempts to check for an owner, he is finally going to be neutered tomorrow. We've had to shut him in the house this evening, and I'm feeling really mean right now, as he is stressed by not being able to escape. Not sure how we are going to physically get hold of him to get him to the vet in the morning.

Bargebill19 · 24/01/2021 22:25

@Shadysback you aren’t being mean, you are looking after his best interests. He will be ok!
I’ve no tips for catching him, we resorted to buying a cat trap cage for Mrs cat. We put her food inside, once she was used to the idea, we put her tea in early and set the trap. Thus catching her and complying with the no food after 10 pm rule. Little wonder she prefers her freedom now!

Bargebill19 · 24/01/2021 22:26

@Santaiscovidfree

How lovely!! She will get there, it does take a long time to gain their trust. I guess that’s why they survive though.

This soft as butter boy spent 4 years stray. No idea what happened to him before or whether he had ever had a home. He was chipped and snipped (age 5 ish) and I adopted him from cats protection age around 8 (they TNR and when the old lady caring for him and his "wife" and kitten died they took him in)
