Toe tufts - to trim or not to trim??

Hello fellow cat slaves!

After always having short haired cats I finally have my first ever fur explosion fluffy girl!

She has crazy long toe tufts between her pads of her back paws. Do these need trimming?? Just thinking about litter tray and getting dirt or poo stuck in them!

What does everyone else do? Picture of said tufts below ❤️

You could trim if you wanted. I have wee round ended scissors so less chance of cutting flesh

Sunnydaysstillhere · 24/10/2020 12:48

Toe floof is a vital part of mn photos.
Yabu to even mention trimming.

Angry

confusedfeelingss · 24/10/2020 12:49

No!!!

My boy has these and there's never been a problem

Toddlerteaplease · 24/10/2020 13:03

The groomer died Snorgs as I have laminate floor and she slips on it otherwise.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/10/2020 13:03

Does

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/10/2020 13:15

Personally I'd never trim my cats' toe fluff. That is the way madness lies Grin.

Bargebill19 · 24/10/2020 13:27

That is some magnificent toe fluff.
I wouldn’t trim - unless matted. Because I like having fingers.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/10/2020 18:45

Shock Toddler I'd guess the groomer would lose a layer of skin or two but not actual death .

Great auto-correct Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 24/10/2020 20:03

@70isaLimitNotaTarget nah, she's as good as gold!

Beamur · 24/10/2020 20:06

That is outrageous toe fluffage

Toilenstripes · 24/10/2020 20:08

Don’t dare trim that beautiful floof. 😻

WitchesSpelleas · 24/10/2020 20:09

Just here for toe pics.

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/10/2020 21:46

If you trim it you can’t hold her toe floofs and do the “what’s all this? It it toe floofs? Is it? Is it? Yes it is isn’t it, it’s fluffy paw paws isn’t it? While the cat looks at you like you are actually mad & slowly but purposely removes the paw from your hand and tucks it underneath them while maintaining eye contact.

Herja · 24/10/2020 21:52

Leave it! They skid in to things when they're running, if you have hard floors... Funny as hell.

Mine pulls his out and spits it everywhere in spring; it's how I tell the seasons are changing Grin. He gets rid of it for summer and lets it grow back in for winter. Came in very handy in the snow too, his furry feet meant be played in it for hours.

cricketmum84 · 24/10/2020 21:56

Loving the responses 😂 especially @Fluffycloudland77 yep I do love stroking those toe floofs!

She does skid around in the kitchen a bit and she's not allowed outside until she has been spayed and healed up.

I'll leave the floof as it is for now :)

When she's at the vet for spaying she could have a Floof-Ectomy and you won't get the blame . She'll be so Judgey at the stitches and Cone of Shame she won't see her paws [thigrin]

StillGardening · 24/10/2020 22:40

Oh I had a long haired fluff ball growing up. There were nose prints all along every window where she’d jump up onto the window cill and slide into the glass , such a cute memory now. Never occurred to us to trim them though 🙄!

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/10/2020 22:56

We used to call that nose art. We never did figure out why the nose had to be against the glass.

Lonecatwithkitten · 24/10/2020 23:04

This is foot fluff. Seriously if you trim them they are more likely to Matt that if left with their tapered tips.
My floofy footed girl is a Siberian hence the super duper Floof.

My DH decided to try and trim big cat's toe fluff and he bit him. He's never bitten or scratched anyone but clearly felt strongly about retaining his toe fluff.

Craftycorvid · 24/10/2020 23:09

Well, I was about to say I shave my toe fluff but it’s a personal choice....then noticed this is ‘the litter tray’ Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/10/2020 23:27

I am so glad I had the foresight to be chosen by two DSH and don't need to worry about ToeFloof or Long Hair Round Bums .

I stick to tickling ToeBeans , far safer Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/10/2020 23:31

What is the actual purpose of toefloof though? Does it give them grip for traction on ice ? (But lacks this on laminate?)

Our boy has little tufts on his ears which (he thinks) makes him look fierce , gives him a rugged WildCat look and helps to filter out any words he desn't like .
"Come inside now" gets filtered
"D'you want Dreamies" gets through .

hilariousnamehere · 24/10/2020 23:36

Toe Fluffs!!! Leave them be :) I trim DFluffyCat's fluffy knickers round her bottom (or ideally get the vet to do it) but the scissors do not venture near the floofy feets of joy... Grin

MiddlesexGirl · 24/10/2020 23:40

Toefloof's primary purpose is for making human slaves even more biddable.
