Character-wise?

Looking for a new rescue (despite DH saying no)

First thing that came up is an ex stud Havana

I’ve never seen a Havana, are you in the UK?
I would imagine they would be very, very similar to Siamese/oriental in temperament, looks wise they look to me like a less extreme chocolate oriental so I would imagine that the majority of their heritage is Siamese/oriental.

TheQueef · 09/10/2020 14:09

Chocolate oriental so same as a meezer I would imagine.

Swimminginroses · 09/10/2020 14:22

They are classed as a different breed @TheQueef
Google says their heritage was Siamese x British Shorthair
You can see from images there is a difference in looks.

The Orientals have that awful exaggeration.
Ridiculous ears, super skinny, cheese head etc
Havanas remind me more of traditional ‘old style’ Siamese but brown

They do look chunkier than orientals now I'm looking.
I'll have two Smile

Qwom · 09/10/2020 14:29

Where are you in UK? We're looking at possibly rehoming our rescued Siamese girlie x

Swimminginroses · 09/10/2020 15:10

I'll have two
They are utterly gorgeous aren’t they?!

Our cat has completely put my DH off ever having another cat, and he was previously a cat person 🤣

I do sometimes wish for another cat though, I have always loved the Balinese but they don’t seem at all popular in the UK and the ones that are are too exaggerated for my taste.

I might try and persuade DH to get something placid and fluffy, rag doll or Birman perhaps....

Swimminginroses · 09/10/2020 15:12

*that are here

TheQueef · 09/10/2020 15:17

I have a Burmese who's so sloppy it's unreal Grin she's converted two serious dog people completely.
My Siamese is all mine, hopelessly devoted and such a scaredy pants. Totally different.
I only want another Burmese, a Tonkinese and now some Havana!

KatyMac · 09/10/2020 18:40

Mine was a heart breaker - anyone that met me (or any of the family) became totally infatuated with him & when he died I had to message about 20 people

DH hasn't be persuaded that he wants a new cat - this may be a deal breaker! we are in suffolk

I've gone All in. I'm staying single so I can commit to being a cat lady.

It's definitely worth considering

I totally love my Burmese - she's definitely a dogcat ❤️

littlestpogo · 09/10/2020 19:46

@TheQueef - I also have a Siamese and a Burmese! Burmese is also a total dog cat - really the perfect cat for my kids. Walks around purring and is the soppiest cat I’ve ever known ( actually he gets a bit much for me!)

My meezer is unusually shy and very, very gentle.

I also really want a Havana. And a Tonkinese. And I did consider the other day whether I should get another Burmese ...

KatyMac · 09/10/2020 20:45

Last time it took 3 weeks between him caving and me getting a cat but he hasnt agreed yet as he doesn't want to love another cat and then have them die on him Sad

brashandrash · 09/10/2020 21:29

Sorry to interrupt but just wondered where you recommend getting a Burmese from? I've only ever had rescue moggies and am literally clueless when it comes to getting a particular breed but always wanted a Burmese as my friend had them growing up and they could even say her name!

Heffapotamus · 10/10/2020 00:19

I know a very good breeder of Burmese in Scotland. I think there is Burmese cat society in the UK which lists breeders too.

TheQueef · 10/10/2020 07:30

My Burmese came from Carnaby cats.
I'm trying to stop myself Sad
I've one rescue left who I've had for almost 22years! She's living a charmed life so no new kits while she's here.

littlestpogo · 10/10/2020 07:36

Yes I’m also trying to resist as my two are best friends and do everything together. I don’t want to rock the boat ( saying that they did befriend a kitten who is now full grown and waits at the door for them in the morning Smile)

@KatyMac I hope your husband agrees - it’s still early days ( ps I used to lurk on ballet.co)

littlestpogo · 10/10/2020 07:43

@brashandrash - yes the Burmese cat club has a list and a kitten list.

My Burmese was a gift ( my meezer is a rescue) but I’m still in touch with his breeder - she was telling me since Covid she’s had so many enquiries and a very long waiting list. I just checked the Burmese cat club website and no kittens are showing atm. I think though that there are good breeders not on that list and aren’t members ( as with all clubs think there can be disagreement!)

Burmese also come up for revoking on the site sometimes.

littlestpogo · 10/10/2020 07:43

Re homing ..

prettybird · 10/10/2020 08:10

My main concern about the Havana rescue is that he is a former stud cat. I'd want to check how socialised he was.

We got our two current boys (brothers) to replace our tart wonderful 9 year old who had been killed in a hit-and-run while visiting unbeknownst to us the nursery two streets away where he was adored by the kids. They were 6 months old so technically rescue cats, although I still had to pay for them (got lucky on Gumtree).

I had to persuade dh to get them because our older cat (also Siamese) was lonely. Although she herself died (natural causes) a few years later, 4 and half years on we couldn't imagine life without the boys.

We'd said that no cat could replace Cosmo as he was such a character - but the two together have come close Smile

TheQueef · 10/10/2020 11:25

My thinking on it Pogo my Burmese really really loves the meezer (she terrorises him, constant playing or washing) so I actually Need another Burm for her to smother.
Then he will be left out so a Tonk to bring him out of his shell.
I've never met a Havana so I will need two to properly judge their characters.
I've also heavily considered a Rexamese. Because they are curly Blush

Lonecatwithkitten · 10/10/2020 11:33

IME Siamese like a chat Havanas talk at you the entire time in a very loud voice.

KatyMac · 10/10/2020 18:35

Really, really missing having a cat Sad

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/10/2020 18:39

We haven’t got another Bengal after nearly a year because I know I really just want him back not a replacement but at the same time dh misses having a cat around.
