One of our cats miaows A LOT

Ok, so we have one black cat, f, who, (bless her cottons) has hardly any voice - when she does miaow you struggle to hear it. The other, a big, m, half-Bengal, half-something else, bugger of a cat, miaows all the time. We used to think it was because he wanted feeding, buut it's not juust that, it's also when he wants to be let out, or when we're walking in or our of the house, or just to get us to watch him eat - weirdo. Aside from that though, can you think of any reason why he might be miaowing so much? He's not in pain.

Bengals and Siamese. If your cat has a drop of either, you'll have a vocal cat.

DanglySpider · 07/10/2020 11:22

Lol - that's so funny. Ours is called Ser Pounce (after the GoT cat). He's sat on the sofa next to me now, purring away. I do think he's fine - we just find him weird compared to our little timid Arty. He does the whole 'walk me to my bowl and WATCH ME EAT, MORTAL' thing, he walks us down the path, up the path - sometimes he's waiting for us, howling, when we get back home. Funny bugger. But despite all our efforts to stop it, he still terrorises poor Arty (Artemis) sometimes - although that is happening less frequently now. Nice to hear about all your cats too, though!

I had a white heterochromic cat called Eric. Bloody loved that guy. He was very, VERY loud, because he was dead.

VillageGreenPreservationSoc · 07/10/2020 11:25

Nope. Because he was deaf.

Smallsteps88 · 07/10/2020 11:28

Now, that’s a trick! Grin

A cat thread without pics? 🧐

mysticpistachio · 07/10/2020 12:18

I have a half Bengal. Never shuts up.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 07/10/2020 12:22

We have one who spends his life yelling at us (it's arrived in the room, where are we, it's raining, where's my sister, why aren't you stroking me, why isn't there different food etc.). He's just chatty. Thank god it's not at 2 in the morning any more.

and one who's silent - except if something's very wrong, and even then it's a tiny little trill rather than her brother's bellow (all alone going to the vets, I seem to have shut my door and she wants in)

cinders15 · 07/10/2020 12:23

giantangryrooster · 07/10/2020 13:21

Lovely Bengals you both have, I notice mouths are closed, so I guess you have quiet Bengals Grin.

MyTwoBengals · 07/10/2020 13:33

Lol rooster, they are quiet when their mouths are shut, I’ll give you that.

purrswhileheeats · 07/10/2020 16:52

Aww I miss my chatty cat Sad Alfi (aka Princess Alfreda) used to follow me around the house telling me about her day. Unfortunately after half an hour she'd start to berate me about how I'd ruined her life (ie. bringing kittens into HER house Hmm) and then attack me Confused Every single night.

Poor missundaztood Alfi Grin

My late lamented Maggot was a talker. He used to miaow when I spoke to him and when I didn't, He used to start announcing his return from outside adventures as soon as he reached the garden path, carry on as he came up the garden, jumped onto the kitchen roof, across the roof, through my bedroom window, and onto my bed (with a very large thud for a very small cat)
He was impossible to lose, as he never shut up unless he was asleep! Even then, as soon as he woke up, his first thought was to shout at me to let me know he was back in the (miaowing) game.
His brother only ever squeaked like a bat!

@Smallsteps88 I have one like that! Every evening at bedtime she comes downstairs to tell us we should be in bed, when we actually go to bed she sits downstairs meowing loudly because she can’t find us Hmm

PickledRick · 08/10/2020 07:06

I have a mixed breed cat, although her mother was a siamese. My girl is very vocal. She has different sounding meows for different things. She has also 'screamed' on a few occasions when she has been badly startled. She's 8 now, so I'm used to it!

KatherineJaneway · 08/10/2020 07:17

My Maine Coon talks, not a lot but when he wants you to know something, boy, do you get the message 😄

My other cat is quiet, can't meow and sort of emits high pitched squeaks when she wants something.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 08/10/2020 07:21

Our half Bengal is very loud, he can’t go a millisecond without yelling his latest thought.

@VillageGreenPreservationSoc our heterochromic white boy isn’t deaf, but he doesn’t meow, he has a high pitched ‘meep’.

And our big, big black giant oaf of a lad says the word ham. They’re all bonkers, like their owners!

Here’s shouty & ham, with the meeper eating his brother’s cat food & cream cheese birthday cake (again, we’re a bit loopy).
