Off my local facebook page. Soneone has ghad an obvious stray follow her son home. She didnt want to take him in because of her dog but now she will put him in a spare room and is asking how she can make a litter tray. I have no idea!

Spare washing up bowl?. Bit late now but a card board box cut down?.

SparklingLime · 05/09/2020 21:43

Cut down a cardboard box, line with newspaper and as it’s a stray add some soil.

CasuallyMasculine · 05/09/2020 21:44

Why would anyone lock a stray cat in a room overnight?

Why didn’t she just shut the door and leave some food outside?

Whattodo1610 · 05/09/2020 21:44

Even just a bin liner with newspaper on top.

NewCatMummy · 05/09/2020 21:46

Washing up bowl and cat litter in a quiet corner will do until the morning

EachandEveryone · 05/09/2020 21:48

I think because it looks so skinny and its so friendly. I did ask her if there was a space in her garden. It was playing in the bins.

Large (turkey sized) baking tray?

DeliciouslyFemale · 05/09/2020 21:49

Any kind of plastic container or even cardboard if stuck. If she has any dried grains, rice, etc, it makes a good emergency litter. I got caught out during lockdown and used a handful of rice overnight. It works well and you really only need a little handful in a heap. Kitty will do the rest.

I will let you know how it goes

Strays are normally skinny.

It sounds like she wanted a cat and took advantage of the fact that one “followed her son home”.

The responsible thing to do would have been to put food out and phone a cat rescue on Monday.

SparklingLime · 05/09/2020 22:01

Unless it is obviously hurt or ill then I would hesitate to keep it indoors when it is not very cold outside. Food and a box for shelter could be left outdoors. See: www.thecatvet.co.uk/found-a-cat-or-feeding-a-stray-cat.html#

That cat is sweet but so sad looking!
Needs a microchip scan to see if it has an owner.

EachandEveryone · 05/09/2020 22:09

Yes that’s exactly what she is doing. The cat has strolled right in and jumped on her sofa. Hopefully he will be chipped.

Nice that your friend is looking after it in the meantime.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/09/2020 22:25

That cat does look too thin, it looks miserable & it’s white bits are dirty. It doesn’t look a healthy pet.

Pets at home have vets open tomorrow for scanning if they can borrow a plastic carrier.

Aww. Poor baby definitely isn’t well or is ill. There’s no spark in those eyes at all.

DeliciouslyFemale · 05/09/2020 22:28

..isn’t well it is starved..

EachandEveryone · 05/09/2020 22:31

She said it really stinks and has made itself at home in the dog crate

Do you think its old or young?

Be careful in case it's not a stray but an elderly much loved thin cat of someone's. I saw a cat walking in the road when I was parked in a street recently. Poor thing looked totally abandoned and I'll. I scooped it up to take it to the vet. Once there when I took it out of the car it shat all over me and it took an age to clean up (had to throw my nice Joules coat away 😢). Then freezing and stinky I drove home. I phoned the vet next day to be informed that I'd abducted an elderly, ill cat from outside it's own house.

Vinorosso74 · 05/09/2020 23:05

Could she get some soil to put in any of the above mentioned containers? The corner shops open all hours usually sell litter.
She could print off a paper collar for the cat with her details on for an owner to contact her.
It is difficult but our old girl looked skinny, not the healthiest and a bit unkempt for her last few months or so. She needed to be home for insulin and other medication plus special diet. However, she did like to go outside for short spells so if people saw her she didn't look her best!

Vinorosso74 · 05/09/2020 23:05

Dried lentils also work as litter

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/09/2020 07:20

I think it’s a lost/abandoned pet. Probably not that old but looks like it’s struggling.

EachandEveryone · 06/09/2020 22:58

His name is Gary. He is 16 years old and has been wondering alot lately. He is going to the vets tomorrow as hes not been well. He was from afew doors down😀

Aww bless. I’m sure they’re grateful that someone cared about his welfare. Poor old soul. I used to worry about someone lifting my two old dears, but they don’t go far now, at 19 and 20 years of age.
