Is she blue or lilac?

I had a bluepoint... she was amazing, she’s been gone about 5 years and I still miss her Smile

You do realise that we will expect daily pictures and reports now we are all Godmothers?

How many girls, boys?
Are they all lilac, or have they blue/chocolate?

I have had tonks and they’re my favs. still chatty as anything, but will fetch as well.

So with bengals and Siamese, and other demanding breeds, do you just give them whatever they want, whenever? Is the criteria for ownership 'prepared to put up with whatever nonsense my cat inflicts on me, and call myself lucky'?

Just wondering. I mean, I'm a committed pet owner. Is it a matter of training the cat, or training the owner?

@YetAnotherSpartacus

When I was little, our neighbours had a Meezer. I still pride myself on being able to speak Meezer. I wish they bred them like in the old days. BIG cats, with muscle and real 'tude and a super loud voice.

The kittend above are lovely too :)

Some ‘Old Style’ Siamese breeders are importing sires/dams from the US, where their breed standard is more like UK Siamese were 50 years ago. Our current overlord has a US sire in his lineage and he is much less pointy than our last pair of Siamese.

We clicker trained ours to (mostly) scratch his scratch post, not the sofa. There are treats if he gets it right. He gets banished for a 10 minute time out in the hall when he scratches furniture. As he craves company, banishment is very effective. Siamese are intelligent cats and quick to learn. When he’s being naughty, distracting him or giving him a run in the garden snaps him out of it. If you think of them as small, wayward dogs, it helps reframe the kind of effort you need to put into training and caring for them.

That's good to know, Kittens! I know cats can be sods about things like needing to go in or out at their own convenience including in the night. I had a cat that woke me every morning by gently biting my septum/nostril. Interestingly, no matter how gentle the bite, it is always both painful and effective.

Um... don’t you just give all cats whatever they want?... Isn’t that like the first rule of cat? Lol

In all honesty, there wasn’t much nonsense from mine, she needed a lot more attention than my wee tabby moggy... but I mean, it was just that she wanted to be with you, always - being used to dogs, that wasn’t an issue for me. I liked that she was much more interactive, and chatty.

I can see how it could be hard going for someone expecting an average cat, but I liked her cuddling up while I watched tv or playing fetch with her and that she’d run to greet me at the door when I came in...

Beautiful! They're so teeny tiny!

If anyone is after a Siamese, I'd also recommend a shelter like a PP did. A friend of mine has three rescue Siamese. She volunteers in our local cat shelter and has kept Siamese for decades so she knows exactly what she is doing. Quite often she mentions a particular breed has come in to tempt me (I would love a Ragdoll or a Maine Coon) but our house is crazy enough with our two rescue moggys.

There are also specialist Siamese rescues, usually local one-man-band set-ups.

Good. I am sure that it is much healthier for them!

Yes. The cat can miaow loudly longer than you can hold out & I’m known for my stubbornness.

I timed my Bengal boy trying to get out once. 45 minutes of jumping at the door handle and shouting. Then he moved a gas canister I’d put in front of his cat flap and broke the flap door off it’s hinges. Distraction didn’t work & I was out in the garden in my dressing gown at 10:30 at night trying to catch him with treat sticks.

And that is why we would never have a Bengal. Grin They take Siamese smarts and focus and dial it up to 11.

Someone I knew wanted a Bengal, I told her it wasn't a good idea and that it wouldn't fit her lifestyle. She went ahead anyway. And guess what. She Rehomed it when she had another baby. I was absolutely furious and still can't look her in the eye.

I cheddar told me that she is actually Siamese and born in the wrong Persian body. Hmm she's no noisy I think she might be right.

Yep I would love a Siamese but a Bengal is too much for me. Blush

Siamese are beautiful cats but I couldn’t handle them

Too noisy for me.

I used to have a tabby moggy when I was a teenager who would walk around the house meowing for me if she couldn’t see me. My parents would get very cross and shout at me to shout the cat upstairs with me all the time. She was very demanding

The one I have now meows when she wants feeding or dreamies. Other than that you don’t really hear from her. Though she does chirrup if I’m in the bath

I had a half Maine Coon who was very demanding and noisy which didn't bother me at all.
I'm at home most of the time, not remotely house proud, don't mind the noise, but then I was fine to give in to every demand so not too much noise needed.I'm still like that with my other three, cats come first in my house, they go where they want, do what they want, sleep with me etc.
If I had a bigger house and more money, I'd definitely have more cats, there's still a Zazzles (the Maine Coon), shaped hole in my life.
