What are these wounds?

Has anyone seen wounds like these before?

The past week or so my cat has been coming home with wounds like these only on her neck (never this bad before!) this morning she has came home with these.

Obviously I'll be keeping her in for a while.

At first I thought they were from fighting but now I'm not sure.

Ideas?

Is it where you put flea or wormer treatment?

Allnamesaregone · 30/07/2020 08:26

These are from her scratching herself with her back feet.
Are you up to date with flea treatment?
Have you changed her diet recently?

AtTheWinchester · 30/07/2020 08:39

Thank you for replying!

She had flea treatment about 2 weeks ago on the back of the neck, these are on the front.

If they're from scratching then that's a relief!
I changed her food about a month ago but it has been the same since then.

These marks have appeared no longer than a week ago.

To me that looks like an abscess that has burst. Normally from a cat nite or scratch.

dementedpixie · 30/07/2020 08:42

They look very red. Maybe need a vet to look at them. Has she always had a collar?

AtTheWinchester · 30/07/2020 08:45

I don't think it's from an abscess, it's not wet or anything. It looks as though the fur has been ripped out.

I've cleaned it since taking the photo and will be keeping her in so I can keep a close eye on her.

Yes she has always had a collar

Wolfiefan · 30/07/2020 08:45

What flea stuff are you using?
Collar irritation? So scratching.
Ringworm?

WhoWants2Know · 30/07/2020 08:47

I instantly thought that she's been bitten and scratched herself too.

AtTheWinchester · 30/07/2020 09:02

The flea stuff is Bob Martin.

I've not noticed her scratching or anything that would suggest fleas. I wonder if another cat has bitten or scratched her and then she's scratched it?

dementedpixie · 30/07/2020 09:06

Bob Martin is a crap flea treatment and not effective. I'd get a proper one e.g. Advantage if buying over the counter or a prescription one from the vet

ThickFast · 30/07/2020 09:12

My cat has had them like that too. Where all the fur falls out in a specific spot and it it was a burst abscess. Vet said it was normal for the fur to fall out around it. Didn’t seem wet either, I think they kick it. If it is one or two, then they can refill so keep an eye on it.

Wallywobbles · 30/07/2020 09:14

Bob Martin products are known for being awful. I'm surprised they're still available. Get some proper treatment.

Allergictoironing · 30/07/2020 09:15

The flea stuff is Bob Martin.

That could easily be where your problem lies - Bob Martin is rubbish & doesn't work. As Pixie says above, Advantage or prescription from the vets - sadly one of the original "go to" treatments, Frontline, is no longer effective in many areas as the fleas have become resistant to it.

AtTheWinchester · 30/07/2020 09:20

Okay, will change treatment when she's next due.

@ThickFast thank you, I'll keep an eye to see if any abscess appear. Did you find out what caused it?

OP posts:
Papergirl1968 · 30/07/2020 09:43

Maybe an abscess. Here are a couple of pics of Matt’s recent abscess for comparison. The vet prescribed antibiotics, painkillers and an antiseptic solution after I emailed them to the surgery.

AtTheWinchester · 30/07/2020 09:45

@Papergirl1968 thank you so much! This is exactly what it looks like.
Do you know how he got them?

JorisBonson · 30/07/2020 09:45

Definitely stop using Bob Martin. Their flea stuff burnt one of mine years ago and I've never used it since.

Frontline is on Amazon at a decent price.

dementedpixie · 30/07/2020 09:49

Frontline isn't always effective either and I think it has the same active ingredient as Bob martin

Wolfiefan · 30/07/2020 10:33

Frontline is useless.
Bob Martin is worse!
It doesn’t look like an abscess but worth getting your vet to check.
Get flea stuff from the vet whilst you’re there.

JorisBonson · 30/07/2020 10:39

We're obviously quite lucky that Frontline works for 2 out of our 3 - the other one has a severe flea allergy and has it prescribed.

Always used Frontline with the other 2 every month and never seen a hint of fleas (touch wood)

JorisBonson · 30/07/2020 10:39

*had Advocate prescribed

dementedpixie · 30/07/2020 10:42

its Stronghold plus I use on my 2 - I get it from the vet

Wolfiefan · 30/07/2020 10:44

@JorisBonson apparently If you use it you should flea spray the house too. (Can’t remember how often!)

Papergirl1968 · 30/07/2020 10:45

The vet said he’d been in a fight, Winchester. Sad
