I ran over my cat 😢

Felt a bump as I reversed into the drive. I'm at the vets now and she won't co-operate with the x ray but they can't feel any broken bones. They're scanning her to check for internal injuries and dosing her up with painkillers then I need to bring her back tomorrow for another check and possible x-ray. I feel like the worst person in the world. I have no idea how I'm going to tell my poor kids about this

Hopefully that is just 1 life down op.. I put dcat in the drier once. The length of my shower +hair wash.. No lasting effects. Dcats are quite robust ime.
Fingers crossed it is fine tomorrow...

Sending good vibes to you and your kitty, you must be distraught.

One of my worst fears is running over a cat.

I really hope everything goes well for her and she will be able to come home again.

My BIL did that to his cat. The cat was fine, just bruised.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/07/2020 18:23

Oh god. I hope she’s ok.

rubydoobydoo · 20/07/2020 18:27

Oh no poor you and poor cat - hope it's nothing too serious.

Our next door neighbour ran over her own cat - cat made a full recovery but still sits in the road too much for anyone's liking the daft thing

FatherBrownsBicycle · 20/07/2020 18:42

I hope she will be okay op.

happytoday73 · 20/07/2020 18:48

My dad ran over family cat as we set off on a 7 hour holiday journey when we were kids .... 🙀🤯... ran off.. Found and dropped it off at vets for our holiday period.

Cat was eventually fine.. Just one life down... Good luck! 🍀

dooratheexplorer · 20/07/2020 18:57

Fingers crossed for kitty!

foamrolling · 20/07/2020 20:02

Thank you for all your lovely messages. They really helped as I was waiting at the vets. We're home now and she hobbled straight over to the food bowl and scoffed her dinner. We've had to shut her in the living room to stop her trying to go upstairs. I'm hoping this is all a good sign. We're to keep an eye out for signs of internal bleeding so I'll have a sleepless night ahead.

I’m so sorry - I hope she’ll be ok.

My mother ran over our cat when I was a kid. Luckily she knew to catch her (they often go off to hide) and take her to the vet. The vet wondered how Mum knew the cat had been run over. “Did the neighbours tell you?”

“No, I did it myself,” Mum said.

The cat made a full recovery and lived to a ripe old age. I hope yours will be the same Flowers

Oh that's awful!! You must be feeling horrible, though it is absolutely no fault of yours! Could you fib to the children, that it was a passing car that didn't realise?

ShockShockShock I can only imagine how you felt when you discovered dcat in the tumble drier!!!
Roystonv · 20/07/2020 20:08

Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery

WhatKatyDidNxt · 20/07/2020 20:11

Sorry to hear this. The food scoffing is a good sign lm guessing

foamrolling · 20/07/2020 21:03

Thanks again! It's heartening to read of other cats that have made it through stuff like this. I told the kids the truth, they're too old to lie to really. They were very sweet about it.

Oh you poor thing - you must feel awful.

My vet ran over and killed her own cat - she was distraught.

OldCat had a nasty brush with a van a couple of years ago and despite making us think he was at death's door he made a complete recovery.

Hope yours is OK

SecretNutellaFix · 20/07/2020 21:31

Fingers crossed she'll continue to feel ok.

Going straight to her food bowl is usually a pretty reliable sign she's not feeling too uncomfortable. Hope she continues to recover well. Just keep an eye out is all you can do.

Sunnydayshereatlast · 20/07/2020 21:33

Rang the vets and they said get her outside in the cold air.... She was already brain damaged (lack of oxygen at birth apparently) - she was no worse than before her hot spin..
Talk about dcat owner guilt...

🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Wishing dcat a full recovery!

Floralnomad · 20/07/2020 21:34

Don’t beat yourself up about it accidents happen , if she’s eating she can’t feel that bad poor thing .

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/07/2020 21:39

Well it’s not like any of us hurt them on purpose. Some accidents are just bigger than others.

Chefwifelife · 20/07/2020 21:57

Good luck op. In the very early stages of dating my now DH managed to open a window onto the window sill where my cat was and pushed the cat off from a first storey flat. Cat was fine; relationship still ended in marriage Grin

foamrolling · 20/07/2020 22:05

It's just as well they have 9 lives with these stories! She's pretty chilled out now, I assume the painkillers are well and truly kicking in. Tomorrow can't come soon enough.

Vinorosso74 · 20/07/2020 22:12

I hesitated before opening this as I thought the worst so am glad she's doing ok.
As a kid we had a neighbours cat who would come to say hello as our cat pulled on the drive. Luckily he didn't get run over but we often had to get out to move him out the way of the car. Lovely friendly cat but not the brightest.

sarahC40 · 20/07/2020 22:14

Good luck for a peaceful night and hoping the dcat is ok - my idiot dcat regularly walks towards reversing cars - totally relaxed, unlike me who’s regularly run to save him.
