My son aged 4 has severe asd and is non verbal and wont understand the most basic information. Our cat who really is a friendly lap cat has become a trigger and has suffered slaps and being picked up by his tail. My sons ot has been given us advice on how to deal with this but with no improvement. Today he my son tried to bite the cat. I don't know what to do any ideas?

Rehome the cat. And please don't leave him shut in a bedroom all day, that's cruel.

Until you find the cat a new home (which you should do asap), don't leave your DS unsupervised around the cat.

Arrange for lots of safe spaces for your cat that your child can’t reach. Supervise your child. Rehome poor cat as soon as you can.
And you’ll have to discipline your child; SN or not, this is not acceptable. It would be the same for a NT child of the same age. You’ll have to keep doing whatever you can to get through to him that it’s the wrong thing to do. The same as any other child, he has to grow up with clear boundaries on what is OK and what is not. We are talking about the very, very basics here - do not hurt animals or other people. You would be doing him a disservice to not get him to realise that and behave accordingly. Remember this is someone you are going to release into society one day and is your responsibility.

Ops already arranged a temporary home for a cat she loves.

I've found a temp home for him.
I listen to my sons team re punishment so yes we act like we should when he shows violence.
