I posted on Saturday regarding our new rescue cat who went under the kitchen cabinet through a tiny gap and wouldn't come out. We eventually had to dismantle the cupboards, smash a hole in the back of the cupboard and drag him out. It was highly stressful for him and us and took several hours. Despite me blocking up the gap whilst we wait for the handyman to come and block it properly he's managed to do it again! I'm so stressed, I can't eat and feel sick. I don't think we should attempt to get him again as it absolutely terrified him. Am I right to leave him to it? We can't get to him but he can easily get out. It's horrible and cold there but it's safe and he can't get outside. I've left his food, water and litter tray nearby. Shall I just wait until he builds up the confidence to come out? I'm a nervous wreck and can't believe it's happened again.

@70isaLimitNotaTarget ah I'm glad your cat is now fully settled. I think mine will be happy once he's allowed out too. It won't be for over a month though. If I let him out now he'd disappear forever! I can't wait until he's happy with us.

Our ten month old kitten was very nervous when we first had her and spent a lot of time u see the bed. She still bolts upstairs if we have visitors. She tolerates the two teenage dd but is happiest and bravest when I’m in on my own although funnily enough she doesn’t mind my elderly mom coming.
Keep chatting reassuringly and maybe offer titbits of chicken or something to see if that will help.

Under the bed...

@Papergirl1968 yes I suppose some cats are more nervous and inclined to hide. When ours was confined to a room for the first few days he was hiding under the bed. That was preferable because I could actually see him. Now it's like our cat doesn't exist because we don't see him for days on end. I just know he's alive because of the food and litter tray. I'll keep talking to him and leaving out nice food. He can't hide forever, surely!

He’ll come round.
Our older cat took everything in his stride and was off exploring the minute we got him home, but like you say they’re all different!
