New rescue kitten very vocal!

This is our new kitten, only had her 5 days. She's made herself at home, was very shy at first and just hid! Now she's cheeky and loving, but she's very noisy!! Is this a thing? Is she trying to talk? She walks around tries to catch your eye and if you look at her she meows, of you ignore her she meows until you look at her! Are some cats just vocal? She's fed, clean tray, fresh water, plenty toys, lots of laps available for cuddles, can't think what else she might need!

Yes
My stray is very vocal, she sounds like a baby but do think she is very young
Some breeds are noisier than others like Siameses.
Dh had siamese as a child and then found a very tiny tailess ginger kitten. He was a real "talker" not sure if he was bought with siamese or if he is a Manx as they also talk

bobstersmum · 01/03/2020 10:00

Strange about the siamese thing, her mum must have been crossed with siamese she had such an angular face and was so long and lean, our kitten is too a little but hard to tell from this photo!

Some cats narrate everything. We have a talker, he'll tell you everything, what he's thinking, what he's doing, what you should be doing for him, what the neighbours are up to, everything!

He seems happy if you talk back. I have full conversations with him.

Plump82 · 01/03/2020 10:08

We have very vocal kittens and they're just regular moggies. It's a running commentary with both of them!

TheMemoryLingers · 01/03/2020 10:09

One of my cats is very chatty - I love him telling me what's on his mind. You'll soon get to know what your cat's different noises mean and you can build your own feline vocabulary to reply to her.

cushioncovers · 01/03/2020 10:10

My ginger boy has become more vocal as he's got older. He frequently does big long meows at me for no apparent reason. I feel like I'm supposed to know what they mean but I've no idea. Grin he's happy and not ill at all but he's just more vocal now.
Your kitty is probably still feeling unsure in her new home, she will settle down and feels less like shouting at you over the coming weeks I'm sureSmile

TorkTorkBam · 01/03/2020 10:12

Our neighbours got a vocal kitten. Our big old silent tom started hanging out with the kitten and within a few weeks started being noisy himself. We get several pointed miaows a day now.

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/03/2020 10:15

Our Bengal never had an unexpressed thought, you need to chat back & it wears them out.

You’d be surprised how many words you can teach them,

bobstersmum · 01/03/2020 10:15

Haha! That's good to know she's ok! I was wondering if she was trying to tell me something, looks like we will be having regular conversations then.

She's such a cutie-pie!

MaidenMotherCrone · 01/03/2020 10:25

My Oriental only stops talking when she's in a mood. It's a relief to be honest. That level of chat is normal for the breed.

My rescue moggy shouts for about 2 mins a day, just getting things off her chest, and then she's quiet again.

The Oriental has to have the last word in any conversation and then flounces off muttering to herself. I don't think she's overly impressed with me as a slave.

AnnaMagnani · 01/03/2020 10:26

One of our kittens was very vocal. She liked to announce everything she was doing. Her sister not so much, only things of importance.

It didn't change. She's nearly 3 now and only quiet when she's asleep.

Sometimes we throw her outside to get some peace and quiet. She is lucky she is so cute.

Knockalockin · 01/03/2020 10:33

I've got two cats. One meows for everything, as soon as you look at her. 7am every morning she meows outside my room for breakfast. She's really loud!

The other want never makes a sound, don't think he needs to with the other at speaking on his behalf 😆

slipperywhensparticus · 01/03/2020 10:34

Talk back she is trying to communicate

AnneJeanne · 01/03/2020 10:38

My old family cat was the town crier. She would enter a room with a full on ‘hear ye, hear ye’ and continue until she got a response from the humans. We adored her.

Itwasntme1 · 01/03/2020 10:45

My old family cat only cried when she wanted something - either fed or in/out.

My current cat ‘talks’. She cries to say hello, to get attention apor just for no reason at all.

At first I was really worried, I wasn’t used to crying for no reason! But I can now differentiate the cries.

Mine never shuts up. He likes to wonder about things out loud as well as tell me everything that's going on in cat world

GiantKitten · 01/03/2020 12:27

She does look Siamesey ❤️

Wereallsquare · 01/03/2020 12:32

She's beautiful. My girl is also very vocal. We have great chinwags every day. Really though, the noise she makes when her food is being prepared is beyond ridiculous. Grin

bobstersmum · 01/03/2020 12:45

They're funny aren't they, cats! Not had a cat for a long time our last one died almost ten years ago and she was very very old, and one of those cats that kept herself to herself. Decided to get another and we had our names down at all the main rescues and then this one came up with a local private rescuer, she was the last of a litter that had been dumped in a shed with their mum. The lady that runs the rescue does it from her own house, she's got a heart of gold. No idea why our kitten was the last one left, she's so lovely!

My little one likes to have full conversations with me & likes to tell the dog off for not paying her enough attention. My big one is incredibly loud & vocal but that’s because she’s deaf no she’s not white. Somewhat irritating at 3am when she starts because she can’t find you & you can’t tell he to stfu before she wakes the children.

Our previous cat was a chirrup-er more than properly vocal. He had different chirrups for different things.

Myshitisreal · 01/03/2020 12:49

That face 😍😍😍😍 I've known a few noisy cats. One of ours has a naggy annoyed miaow, and an '"I've got a spider" miaow . The other one trills and meeps constantly and when she tries to miaow, only a little squeak comes out you can barely hear. When we take squeaky to the vets, she miaows loudly and throughout so she can miaow 🤷‍♂️. My friend had a cat who would constantly miaow just chatter. Very cute. Apologies if I missed it what did you call her? Does she have a box. Our two love boxes, the smaller the better. I only recently learnt the confinedNess makes them feel safe apparently. I remember my husband buying lord of the rings full set and squeaky fitted herself into a box the same size aa 4 dvd pack 😂 congratulations on kitty, too cute ♥

@AnneJeanne I’ve just spluttered on my tea! That’s a perfect description of our night Percy. He announces himself as he comes through the cat flap and continues until everyone’s dropped what they’re doing to welcome him Grin

  • not sure where ‘night’ came from!

Basically congratulations on your new megaphone OP Grin
