Bloody cat pissing behind tv!

She's 5, it's a relatively new thing.

We moved into this house about 7 weeks ago. She's settled fine. Litter tray with always fresh litter in our kitchen /diner to which she has access at all times. She uses this just fine, likes the litter, it's a large covered tray and she's happy to use it.

However I've just caught her for the 3rd time behind the tv weeing on the carpet. I'd been so so careful after the 1st time to restrict her access but I turned my back for two seconds getting youngest sorted for school and she was there like a shot.

I have yet again cleaned it thoroughly with a proper cleaner which eliminates the smell etc. I can't have her keep doing this, it'll just wreck my carrier eventually

Any suggestions? I tried orange oil on tissues placed behind there as a deterrent but nope. I cannot put a little tray there as A won't fit and B I don't want a littler tray in my living room but mainly A, it wouldn't fit

I can't believe it's a UTI. How can it be? She eats, drinks normally. She's perfectly content and happy in herself

I'm feeling Murderous

Cats don’t show when they are sick or in pain so no matter how content she looks she still could have a uti. Or she might not like the position of her litter tray in new house. She is trying to tell you something, the trick is working out what it is as quickly as possible so it doesn’t become established behaviour

TheQueef · 14/10/2019 08:40

One of ours is a pissy knickers.
She sporadically likes to piss ON people under duvets.
Either feather or synthetic she isn't snobby about it, it's usually me she pisses on or occasionally DS.
Angry
Tried all sorts.

Winsomelosesome · 14/10/2019 08:44

Highly likely to be be stess related. A house move is hugely stressful for cats. Possibly another cat lived there previously. First thing I'd do is get a couple of feliway plug ins and an extra litter tray. You could also try a calming supplement like zylkene. If you're doing any work in the property that will also cause stress in cats.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/10/2019 08:48

It’s quite likely to be a uti. Mine had them and never went off his food or hid away.

Spitfirebomber · 14/10/2019 08:54

Your feline friend is clearly unhappy about something. Keep an eye on it, could have urine infection.
I once had a cat who mysteriously started to wee in the fire ashes in living room. Due to work I hadn’t noticed she was being bullied by the cat next door and terrified to go out. Once that problem was sorted out, no more weeing in the ashes.

CherryChapst1ck · 14/10/2019 08:55

I'm honestly loathe to believe it's a UTI but I'll make a vet appointment as soon as they open I suppose - how does a vet test for a UTI or do they just treat regardless? There's no way id get tablets in her

Stress is a possibility I guess ? We have been here almost 7 weeks. She's settled very well. Sleeps happily on the kids beds, purring and eating normally. Playing normally with her toys. Admittedly she doesn't like going outside too much anymore - we are more rural than before (but still local ish to where we were so she didn't have some huge stressful move ) and there are more cats here - around 3. Predictably she hates them. Hmm

No work going on in here though. Quiet house

More cats around and she doesn’t like going out anymore? She hasn’t settled in fine. She’s anxious. Don’t want the carpet wrecked? Put a litter tray behind the TV where she feels safe.

cherryblossomgin · 14/10/2019 09:26

Put a litter tray behind the TV. Maybe she is smelling something that is bothering her.

aliensprig · 14/10/2019 09:27

Have you tried either of these:

(Sorry, my links suck.)

We've used both of those and they work a treat.

You need to block the area off completely so she can't get there, or put a temporary litter tray there instead. More litter trays = happier cat anyway.

Definitely take her to the vet to get checked, but in the meantime, try not to blame her or get cross when she has accidents - she doesn't understand what she's doing is wrong. It's not her fault! Something is wrong in her environment and you need to fix it.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 14/10/2019 09:27

I'd say it's the other cats. Definitely Feliway.

aliensprig · 14/10/2019 09:28

Also have a look at this link:

Grambler · 14/10/2019 09:45

Is that photo post-piss? She doesn't care Grin We used to have a cat that would crap in the house if she felt in the slightest bit offended by something.

www.amazon.co.uk/Beaphar-Behave-Training-Spray-125ml/dp/B01BKRWV76?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 is a good deterrent - and smells nice.

CherryChapst1ck · 14/10/2019 09:47

Thanks for the replies - I'll look at those links

To reiterate - a litter tray will not fit behind me tv . It's a no no and cannot be accommodated so not an avenue we can go down I'm afraid. Not only will it not fit but it's not safe to have one there anyway. So ... cannot do anything which means it's fine to piss behind the tv.

CherryChapst1ck · 14/10/2019 09:49

@aliensprig thanks for the links. Yes I have a specialist enzyme cleaner thingy. My carpet is thoroughly cleaned and dried out. It's a tricky spot to get to but we make sure it's all thoroughly removed

I don't think any smell is tempting her back. She just associates it now

OP posts:
CherryChapst1ck · 14/10/2019 09:51

@Grambler pic taken shortly before I wrung her neck. (J for joke, although tempted, I didn't wring her neck)

Will order that spray thanks

Weenurse · 14/10/2019 09:51

We were told to put food where they peed as they would not pee near food.

I glued dry food to cardboard so I could move it around the house

CherryChapst1ck · 14/10/2019 09:55

Ok so I will ...

Keep her in or rather , give her the choice. I will open the doors which lead onto the garden and let her choose whether she wants to go out or not. At the moment , I tend to pop her out. Just for an hour or two but she's clearly not keen. I'll stop making her go out (as an aside, she's always gone out just fine! Likes sitting and watching folk go by etc but not in our new home!)

There were cats round our old home and she thoroughly detested them too but enjoyed going out to try and find them and either sit with one ignoring him and occasionally hissing or full on trying to fight the other. Here there are a couple more and she does seem reluctant to go out. In my mind, it's good for her to go out for a couple of hours a day in total. Fresh air, having a walk about etc. I do see though, that this may be stressing her out

I will not allow her in the living room when we aren't in there. Today the door was left open and I was distracted with my youngest and it literally took her two mins. She's always weed there in the morning

CherryChapst1ck · 14/10/2019 09:56

@UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername I'll buy the feliway today and get it plugged in.

OP posts:
BlastEndedSkrewt · 14/10/2019 11:20

Feliway spray is also good, spray on the area she's weeing on & may stop her

CherryChapst1ck · 14/10/2019 11:43

@BlastEndedSkrewt ordered along with a plug in! Thanks

OP posts:
cherryblossomgin · 14/10/2019 11:55

Could you move the TV? Also you can get motion sensored air canisters to put around the TV when she goes there.

CherryChapst1ck · 14/10/2019 12:19

@cherryblossomgin unable to move tv unfortunately. I'll look into the canisters - never heard of them?!

OP posts:
YetAnotherSpartacus · 14/10/2019 12:27

Silver foil on the floor around the TV?

acabria · 14/10/2019 12:28

After repeated soiling behind the TV I cut out the square of carpet/underlay as I wasn't sure I was manging to clean it enough. for her not to associate it with toileting. Then scrubbed the skirtings/floorboard with pet spray then the Vanish carpet stuff.
Layed an almost the same carpet remnant over the gap, you can't see unless you're standing right by the tv.
