Not sure what to do with this lovely little cat...help!

I won’t dripfeed so apologies for the long backstory.

I had a cat for 22 years. I am a cat person. DS was born when DCat was 20, so for 2 years he was around cat, touched cat and grew up with a very furry environment.

When DCat died we said no more pets for a while. A year later, at 3, DS went into the home of a dog and with no warning at all had an acute and severe asthma attack. A&E blue light job. It isn’t the only dog he is allergic to because he has less severe but obvious symptoms if we even go in a car where a different dog has been. We are very very vigilant to avoid dogs (due to the acute and severe nature of the attack) and DS is now 8. We’ve always wondered if he is the same with cats but a) hoped not due to earlier exposure and b) daren’t risk finding out. Note we lived in the house that the cat had lived in for another 2 years but moved when DS was 4.

Minding our own business, going about life, and for reasons unknown to us this little cat arrives. She is small, fed (as far as I can see), clean, very used to humans and for some reason is also very very very determined to get into our house. We have NEVER let her in or fed her, not even once. DD (10) will stoke her if she’s playing in the garden but the cat is very affectionate and absolutely adores DD. When we come home from school Cat comes running miaowing. She spends hours every day miaowing on the kitchen windowsill or at the kitchen door. She stares at us through the door all evening and scratches at the living room door all evening (see photo!!). If DD or I go out to her she will literally jump from the wall or garden table to DDs shoulder. As I speak she is outside miaowing at the door.

I’ve been round circa 25 houses in the direction she most commonly comes from and everyone sees her but no one knows who owns her. So....

What do I do to locate her owner? I don’t want to take her to a vet, I don’t have a pet carrier for a start.

Should I put a note on a collar and put it on her? Would that work?

In light of the above, I don’t want to claim her as I am 80% sure she is owned but if she was your cat wouldn’t you want to know she was trying so badly to invade ours! I want them to know i haven’t fed her or tried to steal her!

DS has allergy testing at the end of Oct, but IF (if if if if) it turns out she’s a random, what are the chances of him being allergic to dogs but not
Cats?

Thoughts on the above, please?

Mollpop · 13/10/2019 13:42

I'm so happy she's going to somebody you know and trust 😼

AllTheNameAreTakenEvenThisOne · 13/10/2019 13:44

Brilliant news. Lucky Pip to have you looking out for her. She wasn't daft in choosing you was she?

Please share a picture of her happy in her new home if you can.

🐾 🐾 We love your friend. So happy for you all 🐾 🐾

So looking forward to update!!!

PancakeAndKeith · 13/10/2019 13:59

That’s so lovely.
I love the thought of her all cuddled up in a warm house.

LondonSouth28 · 13/10/2019 15:45

Yay, am relieved for you!

Alabasterangel6 · 13/10/2019 17:56

I’m sure her new people won’t mind me sharing as there is nothing identifying. Look how happy she is!!! I am still sobbing with both happiness, relief, and a massive head shake about how over invested I get. They are utterly responsible. She is being spayed v soon and will stay in all winter. No going out for 2-3 months. I love these people they are just what she needs. I won’t share her new name but it’s paw patrol related 😂🙄❤️

I am now going to have a mahoosive gin and tonic.

She looks so happy.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/10/2019 18:08

Aww that's wonderful. I hope she'll be very happy in her new life!

Mollpop · 13/10/2019 18:22

It's so nice to see her inside, safe and happy.

You did a good thing OP. You deserve several massive gin and tonics.

Alabasterangel6 · 13/10/2019 18:32

Believe me moll I have every intention!

I still have a pang of guilt and I still feel sad. She picked us, somehow. But DS would seriously not have been able to deal with it he’s had red eyes all afternoon. I’m so happy she is somewhere I genuinely know will love her and trust to do so.

But I am also angry beyond words at the scum who clearly acquired her and then dumped her. I explained the story to my lovely friend and she was just as angry. I don’t know what the solution is to stopping this from happening.

However cat is now happy and fed and warm and cuddled and that makes melt. And sob. And I don’t even know why anymore!!!

As someone else said I’m also glad she’s away from those idiots. If we’d have kept her they’d still have seen her. This way she is away and safe.

Pip looks so relaxed. Thank you for sharing the photo. What a wonderful ending. Cats do choose humans they know will keep them safe. She had a lovely night warm and safe last night. Today she has a loving home. Excellent work.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/10/2019 19:08

That’s better! Right near the radiator too.

There’s no solution though, people will always be fuckwits.

chilling19 · 13/10/2019 19:18

👏👏👏👏

SamBeckett · 13/10/2019 19:43

I think I must of suddenly become allergic to my laptop my eyes are watering for no reason (honest)
It is so good to know that kitty formally known as Pip has a lovely new safe home .
Well done OP

Alabasterangel6 · 13/10/2019 19:53

Jeez I’ve got to get up at 7am tomorrow and present a training course. My puffy eyes are like pee holes in the snow.

Hope Pip forgives us for de-shedding her although I am so sure it’s for the best. DD is fighting her dichotomy of emotions - one minute adrenaline happy, the next she’s sad. I’m kind of the same. I have no worries about her safety or security though her family are just lovely. I’ll get another update on the school run tomorrow. DS and families DS are classmates so it’s all lovely really.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/10/2019 20:09

Pip will love you for it.

Are you always this emotional? We’ve just had to switch lion king off because Mufasa died and I was in bits.

Alabasterangel6 · 13/10/2019 20:29

No I’m a hard nosed senior manager with titanium skin usually. Although my weakness is people thinking badly of me; can’t hack it.

I was just the same with my old DCat. Humans it’s a two way thing, so I get their stance. Animals is open to your own interpretation, which I seem to then feel is my responsibility.

Plus maybe underneath it all I’m just a softie. Plus I’ve had a few bits of stuff going on with an elderly relative and exams, so maybe it’s just all coming out. DD just gave me a big hug before bed and said ‘you’re the best Mum ever for helping Pip-cat’ which made me cry again. not least of all because she is a tween with her mothers titanium coating.

Anyway. Like I said I’ve got to massively hoik the big girl pants up and get a grip. She’s happy and warm and safe and watching antiques roadshow (apparently!!)

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 13/10/2019 20:37

I think that titanium’s been chipped off a bit.

Alabasterangel6 · 13/10/2019 20:40

Not a bad thing fluffy even though it hurts a bit lot

Toddlerteaplease · 13/10/2019 21:37

What did Ex Pip make of the giant aqua Marine on the Antiques Roadshow?

Alabasterangel6 · 13/10/2019 21:54

Not sure toddler but I thought the dislike of the frame was a tad harsh. I’d have suffered through owning it if needed!
