Saw a YouTube video in this earlier and it looks an intresting method to use but was wondering if anyone here has tried it before i go out and buy a new tray and new litter

I saw a special tray for this demonstrated at a cat show. It looked like a great idea.

Lucafritz · 06/09/2019 23:04

I saw a YouTube lady who hailed it at the answer to all litter woes. Im currently 20 weeks pg so struggling to lift and empty the litter tray so this would be a great alternative if it works

Try litterthat doesn't need changing so often? I only change mine once a month. And scoop daily. Might be easier for you. Can anyone else do it for you, due to the toxoplasmosis risk. If not wear gloves.

Plump82 · 07/09/2019 11:55

We'll be doing this when we get the new kittens. I really wish I'd known about it when we had our old cat. We're planning on making litter boxes from under bed storage as i dont feel normal sized litter boxes are big enough.

TroysMammy · 07/09/2019 11:59

Could someone please add a link or let me know what to google as I'm hopefully getting a kitten soon. (I'm meeting him this afternoon). Thanks.

Smotheroffive · 07/09/2019 12:01

Link please or I dont know what you mean

Plump82 · 07/09/2019 12:29

Just Google sifting litter tray.

Smotheroffive · 07/09/2019 14:05

Well I've had a look.

I wouldn't get one. A lot of plastic for one litter tray.

I bought a large cheap seive years ago, does the same the thing, very effectively.

Plump82 · 07/09/2019 15:06

When it's going through the seive, what are you emptying the wood dust into?

WonkyCatissad218 · 07/09/2019 16:23

This is best litter in my opinion, I change it once a month and scoop daily. It doesn't smell at all and clumps. I get it from Zooplus.

Needs to be about 2-3 inches deep but does a great job.

Bot quite sure what you're asking plump ? Is it that you wanted to know how I dispose of my litter?

Or what receptacle does the 'seived' stuff go into? If so, I use a garden bucket to continually sieve into, until the litter tray is empty? Does this have great implications for something?

I can't see where you would be going with this?

TroysMammy · 07/09/2019 17:56

So glad I saw this before picking up my new kitten (photos will follow once he's sat still for a minute) just bought one in Pets at Home.

Smotheroffive · 07/09/2019 19:06

Well you're going to have to post pics now then Troys or it didnt happen Grin

TroysMammy · 07/09/2019 20:44

I've got a photo on my phone which is charging. I can't get it at the moment as I have a kitten sleeping on me Smile

Smotheroffive it was just a genuine question. So that i could hear about alternatives for when we get kittens. Not sure why you seem to be a little nippy with your reply. I can assure you im going no where with it. Such a strange thing to say.

Smotheroffive · 07/09/2019 20:54

I wasn't understanding quite what you were asking really, so asked.

Replied also, was it helpful? What you were looking for?

Smotheroffive · 07/09/2019 20:56

Oh that is too cute Troys (even without seeing kitties face!) Grin. Want it.

Plump82 · 07/09/2019 20:56

Far enough. Yep it was helpful as i couldnt really envisage where the seived stuff went.

Smotheroffive · 07/09/2019 21:07

I can't comment on the style of litter trays as I don't have one. Mine is just a regular one, that I seive, with a seive!

Rachelover40 · 07/09/2019 21:15

Sounds good.

I have an elderly cat who no longer goes out (her choice), except to sit on patio in the sun. I use puppy training pads and she is quite happy to go on them.

Smotheroffive · 07/09/2019 22:07

I am horrifed at the single use plastics of puppy training pads. Please get something less environmentally damaging.

MoaningMinnie1 · 08/09/2019 01:13

I never thought of that, Smotheroffive. She doesn't use many and she isn't going to be around much longer (that's a fact, she has something wrong which at the moment is in remission, she's 18). Still you've made me think.

Found these and there are others:

Smotheroffive · 08/09/2019 01:19

Oh, that's so sad Sad

Im really sorry and hope your time together is so very precious Flowers

MoaningMinnie1 · 08/09/2019 02:14

She is fine at the moment, Smotheroffive. Thank you for kind words. I took her to the vet for a check up on Monday and he was really, really pleased with her. He removed two tumours from her left front leg in June, one was difficult because it had grown around blood vessel and nerves but he got them both out. They were sent off for histology, one was benign and the other malignant so it's watch and wait, if she seems uncomfortable in any way or in pain we'll have to think about the inevitable but not just now.

I've checked and it seems the pads I have now (I buy them online and tend to go for what's cheapest, it's only her who uses them) are environmentally friendly! That's no kudos to me because I didn't choose them for that but I am pleased and if I run out, I'll buy the same again.
