I'm going to have to rehome my cat

I can't believe it, I'm gutted Sad

Long story short, I found five dead/dying cockroaches on my balcony a few days ago. Couldn't work out where the damn things came from; went a bit mad with the roach spray and bleach etc. Well, what do you know - just sitting outside minding my own business and the fucking cat rocks up with a cockroach in her mouth. Drops it at my bare feet, proud as punch.

Words have been exchanged.

What lovely presents. Better than live mice, dead Robins or poor little voles which is what my cat brings me. We've had massive dead spiders too. Thank god they are dead.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/08/2019 21:40

Well it's better than little fluffy baby birds (my cats are bastards)

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/08/2019 21:41

And the live mice they drop outside the front door ready to run in when I open it.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 24/08/2019 21:41

Mine brings me live baby frogs and dragon flies

mama345 · 24/08/2019 21:42

It might be just a "phase"? One of our cats was into earth worms for a while, then birds, then nothing for ages.

drspouse · 24/08/2019 21:42

Would you rather have live cockroaches in your house?

yourestandingonmyneck · 24/08/2019 21:44

I take it you are joking about rehoming her?

onedayiwillmissthis · 24/08/2019 21:48

I hope this is 'lighthearted'Hmm

Nonstopbuttmachine · 24/08/2019 21:48

Believe me, I'd rather have mice and voles. Have you seen how fast cockroaches can move? I was dancing like Robbie Williams on speed trying to get away from it.

I'm not joking about rehoming her, she needs to learn a lesson. Or at least go away and think about what she's done 😉😼

Our cat brings worns. I make my don pick them up in kichen roll and take them outside. The cat belongs to him. She has also brought a frog, which made me scream. I put a glass over it until my son got home to get it outside. Your cat will soon forget abput cockroaches.

Nonstopbuttmachine · 24/08/2019 22:00

Of course it's light hearted. I'm a regular on the Litter Tray Wink

Cockroaches give me the heebeejeebees. We stayed in an apartment in Barcelona a few years ago and found a cockroach. We got rid of it, sprayed stuff and let the company know. Person came along who told us her cat loves catching cockroaches amd crumching them up.... Really made me cringe. We then showed each othernphotis of our cats.

Vinorosso74 · 24/08/2019 22:05

*other photos.
My phone is being a bastard today.

HeyMonkey · 24/08/2019 22:09

You're supposed to say thank you very much my good friend, and get on the floor the pretend to eat it. It's their offering of love.

I get a shitload of mice. I say thank you my good boy, num num, tasty mouse. Then it goes in the bin.

Can't change nature. Even if it's gross.

Lunafortheloveogod · 24/08/2019 22:15

Be thankful they’re dead/dying.

Mine brings everything back alive. And I mean everything birds, mice, small rabbits, big bloody moths. There’s no party like a terrified bird flapping round your room at 4am. He doesn’t even try to kill them, I watched him attempt to “bring” a friend home and he’s ridiculously gentle like he’s bringing a kitten home.

HuggedTheRedwoods · 24/08/2019 22:20

When our cat was a kitten she had a thing for snails, would bring them in and play with them like marbles until we rescued them from her (hardy little things, never looked harmed by their experiences). I think she's brought one in again as every so often I see a silver trail in random spots on the floor but can't find the thing.

Nonstopbuttmachine · 24/08/2019 22:27

A cockroach is not an offering of love! It's a 'fuck you, I'm cute but see how I can bring you down' in one swoop. Gasligting by pussycats Sad

I’m with nonstop. The message is not of love and peace but “feed me the good stuff or I shall fill your living space with cockroaches and they will need pest control to retrieve your dead body” or something like that.
Disclaimer. My cats are torties so nothing is subtle. Grin

TrainspottingWelsh · 24/08/2019 23:46

At least they’re all in one place. One of mine likes to leave presents in lots of lovely places, so you’ll always be sure to find one wherever you go.

luna one of my others does exactly the same, it’s more like trying to start some form of zoo than actually harm anything.

crimsonlake · 24/08/2019 23:59

I have come down in the morning to some truly disgusting scenes of murder in my house, it is cat thing.
My elderly cat used to howl to let us all know she had caught a mouse... it was always a leaf with a long stem... we used to show our appreciation.

Nonstopbuttmachine · 25/08/2019 00:06

Oh, they're rank aren't they? Last year she came running in with a huge gecko dangling out of her mouth. It was bigger than her, had to wrestle the poor thing from her jaws and set it free Confused

When I was a child the family cat used to bring in full grown rabbits, then nibble a neat line down the length of their abdomens and spread their intestines out across the floor. It was REVOLTING. I've no idea how she even managed it, she was quite a small cat and the rabbits were nearly the same size as her.

Our cat likes to go out on the roof of our two storey house. And catch pigeons! And a wee baby bird another time. And she then brings them down two flights of stairs. And they are alive! And I'm left to shoo them outside! She also catches and kils small mice and leaves them at the front door. She's a tabby torti so she's a bit wild!
