Where should my kitten sleep?

First night with our new kitten tonight but I'm unsure about what to do with her now we're off to bed. We've given her the kitchen as her space with all her bits in it. Should we shut her in the kitchen overnight so she's safe and with all her bits. Or do we let her roam? I'm worried she may cry.. do I ignore it if she does or do I go to her?
I'm so confused! I don't want to do the wrong thing for her but I've read about bad habits and such. Any advice appreciated.

Personally I’d shut her in the kitchen and introduce her to the rest of the house gradually. It lets them adjust to the environment gently rather than thrown in at the deep end

No advice on the crying as I never heard ours do this from upstairs.

ParadigmGiraffe · 24/07/2019 23:01

We had two so was happy leaving them downstairs in ‘their’ room, the kitchen. Checked on them in the middle of the night and they were asleep. Got up early to check too. They aren’t allowed in the bedrooms coz of allergies so this set a good habit. They aren’t locked in kitchen any more but sleep downstairs from own choice.

I think it’ll be fine downstairs.

Attach a picture though,

Very hard to answer without seeing a photoGrin

@Willow4987 thanks for the reply. She's had a little explore of the house tonight and has played and slept happily with us.
She's obviously going to miss her mum and siblings which is why I'm worried about the crying. Hopefully we won't have any/won't hear it.
Think I will put her in the kitchen.. once she's used to the place she can roam about.

Surely you'd take her to bed with you and let her sleep with you? is that just me? Wink

H2OH20Everywhere · 24/07/2019 23:04

Can't she sleep in your bed?????

darlingtwinklebum · 24/07/2019 23:04

@ParadigmGiraffe @IHaveBrilloHair thanks for the replies! Picture of her sleeping earlier should be attached.

Never known a kitten to cry because it's alone at night, they're not like puppies and generally just go to sleep. Mine are restricted to the livingroom and kitchen (they also have the great outdoors) and are mainly fine with that.

LoafOfSellotape · 24/07/2019 23:05

Omg how could she sleep on her own??!!

darlingtwinklebum · 24/07/2019 23:06

Trust me I did think about letting her sleep with us! But it's bloody boiling I'm not convinced she'd be comfortable either
She's a cute little thing.. if I'm not careful she'll be ruling the place Grin

Oh my goodness, she's adorable.
Let her sleep with you.

CrazyCatLady159 · 24/07/2019 23:08

On her first night she slept in the middle of the bed wrapped up in a blanket with me and then bf ....... she'd got herself stuck behind the washing machine when I left her In The kitchen -

2bf I found out from the vet she was only 6 weeks when the lady who sold her to me told me she was 10 weeks - so maybe that's why she was crying and was happy to be swaddled in the middle of us both

AtSea1979 · 24/07/2019 23:09

Why on earth did you only get one? She needs a play late

AtSea1979 · 24/07/2019 23:09

mate def Freudian there!

RosaWaiting · 24/07/2019 23:11

At my place.
Sorted.

darlingtwinklebum · 24/07/2019 23:11

@AtSea1979 Very nearly walked out with 2! I had done a previous post regarding kittens and there seemed to be a divide about whether one or two was better. So I'm still none the wiser to be honest Confused

@RosaWaiting don't think dd would be very happy to wake up without her new best friend.. in fact she was upset enough about just going to bed!

RosaWaiting · 24/07/2019 23:13

Well you did ask Grin

RosaWaiting · 24/07/2019 23:13

Mate of mine went to the shelter planning to get one kitten, he ended up leaving with three!

@RosaWaiting I can see why.. such beautiful little things aren't they
And so funny. She's already destroyed one of her toys tonight so it looks like I underestimated the amount of toys she would need

lilmishap · 24/07/2019 23:16

She's just left her litter mates and mum so it will be her first night alone, does she need to be shut in somewhere? She may well find a 'spot' in the living room/stairs where she feels safe, she'll also get more used to your house smells if she's allowed to roam at night. Is she litter trained?

CherithPonsonby · 24/07/2019 23:17

Argh, extreeeeme cuteness!

She needs to come here and sleep with me.

darlingtwinklebum · 24/07/2019 23:21

@lilmishap yes she's litter trained. I've just been and checked and she's asleep already!
I was just trying to give her her own space so she feels comfortable. If tonight doesn't work out then of course I'm open to just letting her go wherever she's happiest.
Just assumed that keeping her where all her bits are would be the best idea since she's not totally used to the house. Although she's probably far cleverer than I'm giving her credit for! Blush

She's so beautiful! I let mine sleep in my bed but now wish I didn't because she wakes me in the middle of the night cleaning my face and if I lock her out she bangs my door Shock no idea how she does it but she rattles the door in the frame and makes the biggest racket
