Where should my kitten sleep?

First night with our new kitten tonight but I'm unsure about what to do with her now we're off to bed. We've given her the kitchen as her space with all her bits in it. Should we shut her in the kitchen overnight so she's safe and with all her bits. Or do we let her roam? I'm worried she may cry.. do I ignore it if she does or do I go to her?
I'm so confused! I don't want to do the wrong thing for her but I've read about bad habits and such. Any advice appreciated.

I've on my 3rd night with my new kitten and I've been shutting him in the bathroom with blankets, litter tray and food/water bowls. He's settled in brilliantly so I was planning to let him roam tonight but he's been play fighting with my 8 month kitten for hours and it was starting to get a bit heavy so I was a bit worried about letting him free. Bigger kitten has run of the house and sometimes sleeps in my bed or he would defo be in here. Don't want bigger kitten to feel pushed out or threatened.

Forgot to say the crying the first night was awful after about 10 minutes he stopped although I did have to use the toilet during the night so he was crying again once I went back to bed. Last night it was only a few minutes and he stopped and tonight it was literally one or two cries and nothing.

Mine go nuts between 1-3 every night/morning, tearing all over the house!. They're 2 but this has been the routine since I got them both, they both sleep on a bed after until we get up...any bed will do them.
I did try shutting them in the kitchen/dining room but they woke us up the first night playing and knocking over anything they could so I opened the door.
Be prepared for the nighttime crazy!

Well last night went fine.. there was a bit of crying that I woke up to but since I've been up she's been so happy and loving.

Thanks for all the advice will continue with the kitchen for now and see how she gets on.

Kittens will keep you awake all night having crazy 5 minutes. I always let mine sleep with me but they did keep me awake most of the night.

Op that is one beautiful kitten. All are beautiful obviously but good lord she’s a poppet !
Hope she and you settle into happy routine. Agree with others that whole house may be overwhelming all night on her own at the beginning.
I had one who on a house move refused to come downstairs (he’d never experienced stairs but had run up them) for several days. We were beginning to think we’d have to move back to a small flat when he finally plucked up courage and then proceeded to be total boss of the whole house for his whole lovely long life.

if I'm not careful she'll be ruling the place

I would just bow to the inevitable, she will be ruling the place whether you like it or not eventually so you may as well get used to it Grin

Following this thread with interest as I am picking our new kitten up this evening. We are very excited but I am also worrying about making sure everywhere is safe for him! Unsure of where to let him sleep. We have a very small house- small hallway with living room off it leading straight into a longish, very narrow kitchen. Our (tiny) bathroom is also downstairs. Am thinking maybe kitchen but am then worried about him jumping into n the benches and hurting himself or eating something he shouldn't. Can they even jump that high as kittens?

InOtterNews · 25/07/2019 16:50

Reading this thread with fond memories. When I got my 2 (brothers) we kept them in the lounge the first couple of nights - just as it was the quietest place in the house (and partly to avoid them getting stuck behind cupboards in the kitchen.

Then once they were chilled and comfortable in there the doors were opened and they had free rein to explore. Food bowls got moved to kitchen, litter tray to downstairs loo. They quickly found their favourite sleeping spots - anywhere other than we allocated - so all beds, even the bathtub both on occasion are fair game.

@disillusionedteacher - how old is your new master? Mine was 4 months when she arrived and she was perfectly capable of jumping up everywhere! Just make sure there's nothing out that isn't safe for him to play with / eat and you'll be fine. Of course, there's always your (his) bedroom! I assume pictures will be provided asap?!

@darlingtwinklebum - you do realise that 'ruling the place' is in her job description, and that you're all now slaves in her household, don't you???

darlingtwinklebum · 25/07/2019 19:52

Yep she's definitely ruling the place you were all right Grin

@H2OH20Everywhere he's 14 weeks. He's home and exploring and already ruling the house. I think I'm a bit scared of him but trying not to show him any fear especially in front of DS4 because don't want him to be frightened lol.

Here's the obligatory photos. He's called Ziggy Stardust because of his facial markings

Beautiful!

H2OH20Everywhere · 25/07/2019 23:18

@disillusionedteacher - Ziggy is so handsome! I can't imagine it's any hardship being ruled by his paw!

What are you scared of? He won't be able to do you much harm - he might scratch but it won't be that bad.

Just do what your master commands and ask should be well!
