Which clumping cat litter?

I am trying to find a clumping cat litter that has very little dust.

Harry has had a cough for the past 18 months. We were originally told he had heart failure but he's had scans and there's nothing wrong apart from a grade 1 murmur. The vet suggested he might have asthma but didn't want to put him through a biopsy as he doesn't have many symptoms and isn't distressed.

I read this morning that some cat litters can make asthma worse so I was thinking of changing his to rule it out. At the moment we are using Felipure clumping cat litter and I was wondering what other people use. I looked at World's Best but it it gets very mixed reviews with some people saying it's very dusty.

Thanks in advance!

The world's best stuff is an absolute waste of money, I was furious I'd wasted so much. It went everywhere, and after a few days of having to hoover as soon as I walked in the door, it went in the bin!

We buy small animal bedding instead from Amazon, it's paper and doesn't make any dust at all and he can't scrat it everywhere.

I use the cats best for my 5 rescues, it tracks a bit but there's no dust like you get from some clumping litters. I haven't used anything else since I tried it years ago

dementedpixie · 15/06/2019 18:12

You could try cats best smart pellets as they don't track as badly. I use a mix of them and some clumping clay stuff to make the clumps more stable

idril · 15/06/2019 18:17

We use cat's best. It's great although it does track but I wouldn't say it's dusty although we've only ever used that so nothing to compare it to.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 15/06/2019 18:25

Thanks everyone, it looks as though we're going to go for Cats Best. I'm not sure he'd like the wood pellets (fussy creature!) so I'm going to go for the original and hope he gets on OK with it! If it helps his cough I don't mind what he has.

The tracking was horrendous when I tried it. Worlds Best tracks less

dementedpixie · 15/06/2019 18:44

Its quite confusing as there is Worlds Best and Cats Best and they are both different. I found Worlds Best less messy than Cats Best

DontCallMeShitley · 16/06/2019 23:03

I use( OKO ) Cats Best, have tried pretty much everything over the years but always end up with that one. I used the OKO pellet one for a long time but current cat prefers the softer feel on his paws. Greenwoods is also OK. I buy from Zooplus.

Worlds Best is horrible, it stinks and it tracks, it is very fine.

Jayneisagirlsname · 17/06/2019 13:15

Tigerino from Zooplus isn't dusty. However if Harry does massive wees (like my boy) then it does go a bit cement like!
Very little tracking though

Ticklingcheese · 17/06/2019 13:25

I know this may be a little controversial, but I use chicken starter feed, granulated. Not as dusty as many i have tried, clumps if you don't take it up straight away, and I buy it in large sacks, so the price is reasonable.

People think I'm crazy, but I saw this advice telling that chicken starter is basically the same as 'world best', don't know if it's true, but the best I have tried yet.

peridito · 17/06/2019 18:11

chicken starter is basically the same as 'world best'

interesting ,I use Worlds Best because you can flush it down the loo .
But I swear it attracts mice .,

Ticklingcheese · 17/06/2019 19:19

perdito probably because it is chicken food 😁.

peridito · 17/06/2019 19:54

who f***ng knew ! Tho I did have my suspicions reading that it was a waste product of maize ...

Ticklingcheese · 17/06/2019 20:17

I did Blush, you must try it to compare, I would like to know.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 17/06/2019 21:33

Well Fetch delivered the Cats Best yesterday and it seems to have met with Sir's approval. I've now got to wait and see whether or not it helps his cough. Even if it only improves it slightly it'll be worth it.

Best of luck. If it's not working it's back to nature as in soil in the tray 😁.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 18/06/2019 07:21

That won't be happening! He tracks everywhere so I'm not having soil all through the house!

The cats best is really good as you don't have to do a full empty that often whereas a lot of the clumping ones you do, like I said the tracking can be a pain and I was hoovering a lot but think that's more from having 5 cats, the trays stays outside now in the garden I have outdoor lidded ones so don't notice any tracking

DontCallMeShitley · 18/06/2019 17:28

Chick crumb does look and feel like Worlds Best, however it is not advised to use as it has hormones added. It also tracks everywhere.

If you really must use chick crumb try to get it hormone free.

DontCallMeShitley · 18/06/2019 17:32

Since I went back to Cats Best his lordship has also acquired Asthma, has just had tests and a hospital stay.

However, it might be stress related or due to mould in the house, I don't use perfumed or toxic cleaning products so not likely to be that.

Previous cat was thought to have asthma and it turned out to be nodules on his soft palate.

Ticklingcheese · 19/06/2019 11:07

dontcall have just checked my starter feed, doesn't mention hormones, I'm not in UK (in EU) so maybe you have another product?

I also think/hope that since my dcats aren't eating it, it should be a marginal effect from the hormones.

Btw this tracts no more or less than the other products I have tried.

bodgeitandscarper · 19/06/2019 11:14

Professional Classic is good and not dusty, used it for years after trying various different litters and I found this to be the best.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/06/2019 12:03

I use intersand classic. It's dusty when you first put it in the tray but I've not noticed much afterwards.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/06/2019 12:04

It's like sand so doesn't track to much.

DontCallMeShitley · 19/06/2019 18:22

Tickling, It was this I was thinking of I believe, so possibly not hormones after all but something else. I remembered reading similar threads on it.
