I need a handhold- cat badly injured

Today is my birthday. We went out for a few hours, came home to find our cat under the bush at the front. He came out so can walk but his face is ripped to pieces, his eye is badly injured, he was clicking and breathing very strangely. The poor little thing absolutely stunk of blood. He was still purring when we stroked him. My dh and mil have taken him to the emergency vets- but I think it will be the worst :( I'm alone with my toddler and baby and can't stop crying, poor, poor little thing :(

My cat got hit by a car 2 weeks ago and came home, managed to jump the fence and drag himself upstairs to find me, with both back legs all cut up and what turned out to be a dislocated hip. I thought he'd been attacked by a fox but the vet said it was a car that clipped him. He's very stupid and just sits in the road but he has somehow avoided being hit for 2 years until this. I'm frightened to let him out again really even though he's going mad being locked in. He really is my little sunshine so I feel for you because it's just the worst feeling Flowers

Albatross your dcat, oh bless, so glad all recovered, but sorry you are still suffering. Have you tried putting Albacat on a harness and carrying to the roadside to see how scared he is after his incident? I'm sure he'll have learnt his lesson about cars?

Smotheroffive · 31/01/2019 20:00

Albadross sorry, auto changed your un!

theSnuffster · 31/01/2019 20:34

Wow what a relief!

@sweetkitty have you thought about a 'catio'? We're thinking of building one as I just can't bring myself to let our kittens out but also know they'd love to be outside.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/01/2019 20:58

Albadross That is one determined cat you have there.

Smotheroffive · 31/01/2019 21:30

'catio' Grin

Smotheroffive · 31/01/2019 21:31

'catio' Grin. Is that an enclosed area outside? You could buy cat fencing if you have fencing panels to attach it to?

sweetkitty · 31/01/2019 21:41

Yes I’m looking at them now.

Unless you live on a farm or somewhere like that it’s so dangerous for cats Sad

Albadross we had a cat once that had similar injuries, but he also broke his pelvis and both legs. He used to sit in the road too, or sleep in piles of leaves at the side of the lane (despite us living in completely open countryside!). I think he probably got run over while asleep, with hindsight. He recovered well, although his hip would not stay in, the ligaments around it strengthened with it out and he managed perfectly, climbing and roaming as normal. He lived to 18. I don't think we'd ever have been able to turn him into a house cat, even with a catio, he was climbing the walls to get outside after a week, while he was still bandaged and pinned. It was hard enough getting him through his couple of months of healing.

Honeyroar · 31/01/2019 23:05

Ps, the two cats I've mentioned on this thread are the only two we've had run over in 50 years of cats.

Smotheroffive · 31/01/2019 23:08

Had the same with mine honey he opened a window and escaped, when I found him the gash in his side was wide open as he'd also removed his collar and staples, it was very gruesome to see into the flank of my dcat. It was a substantial open wound made by the vet to release all the pus and gunk. We gave up taking him to vets in the end and I closed it with steri strips repeatedly applied Angry

Smotheroffive · 31/01/2019 23:10

7 dcats only one car incident, always the same dcat having all the injuries!

LLOE7 · 01/02/2019 20:39

Dobby went to the vets again today to have some xrays and have a feeding tube put in as he hasn't been eating/drinking. He has broken the top and bottom jaw and some damage to his facial structure but other than that he is fine! Should eat normally again in a couple of weeks :)

Thank you for updating. Have thought about you and Dobby quite a bit bizarrely. He is such a great looking cat what a trouper !! Good
Luck.

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/02/2019 20:53

Oh dear, he has been through it. Poor boy.

LLOE7 · 01/02/2019 22:16

The cat food the vet has given us is mouldy!! They had already been using this one when he was with them! I'm shocked they hadn't noticed.

Oh poor little sweetie-pie Dobby!!

Oh my god ,really wishing I hadn't clicked on that last photo, are they trying to kill him off!!! That's gross and they need reporting for it!

He will be very bruised and sore of course, but he'll bounce back OP. Do feel for him, little one, aww, Dobby.

Smotheroffive · 01/02/2019 22:31

Usually the vet would give a pain killing jab for the initial bit, then you should have some oral meds for pain, inflammation.
