When is enough enough?

I've posted previously about Snow. She's never been healthy, we've battled through giardia, many many blood tests/ultrasounds/biopsies, a vet who told me she had FIP and to have her PTS (she doesn't have FIP) and most recently she's had all her teeth removed, and an inhaler for chronic bronchitis.
The past 2 mornings she's been very sick, blood in vomit, can't keep anything down, squeals when picked up. Vet this morning suspects pancreatitis. She's had steroids/antisickness/antacid injections this morning and back to vet tomorrow who may want to investigate, ie camera down throat, more x rays etc etc. She's also lost the weight she'd put on last week.
When is enough enough? I love her to pieces, she's been through so much and I can't bear the thought of letting her go, she's still only a baby at 2. I don't know what's best for her now

The golden rule: better a day too soon than a minute too long.

From your brief description I would PTS. Mourn her passing and know that she is no longer suffering. Then bring another cat into your life.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/01/2019 14:02

Oh no, not poor Snow. Hopefully @Toddlerteaplease will see this as her Snorg had pancreatitis.

I would see how she goes over the next 24 hours and be guided by your vet.

Flowers to you and Snow

Vinorosso74 · 23/01/2019 14:40

Poor Show. I remember her story. Our old girl had pancreatitis (as part of triaditis). She had treatment and surgery (surgery wasn't for the pancreatitis bit). Treatment was steroids and strong pain relief and the surgery rectified other problems.
I would also be guided by your vet and ask for their honest opinion. They won't tell you what to do but they can at least go through things with you.

Vinorosso74 · 23/01/2019 14:41

*Snow. I hate predictive text!!

SpoonBlender · 23/01/2019 14:50

Pancreatitis killed our girl, but she was 14 and (with vets advice) we didn't think she'd survive the surgery. Go talk to the vet and have that hard conversation.

Justonedayatatime11 · 23/01/2019 18:53

She's eaten part of her tea and so far it's stayed down. I just hate putting her through so much, but at the same time I feel like I'll be failing her if I stop. She's only a baby, she doesn't deserve this

Vinorosso74 · 23/01/2019 19:16

She doesn't deserve it. It's good she's eaten. I would offer a small amount again later. Paws crossed for her-she is lucky to have a caring owner.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/01/2019 22:50

Pancreatitis almost killed Snorg. She was critically ill for a week and on morphine, ketamine and fluids for a week. Somehow she made a full recovery and has never looked back. I found out afterwards that she was famous at the vet "because she survived"
Poor snow has had a rough ride but here is hope.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/01/2019 22:51

It's good that she's eaten. Could you get some Royal Canin recovery formula. I syringe fed it at first the. She had a feeding tube fitted. Only used it for a couple of days.

Justonedayatatime11 · 24/01/2019 08:47

No sick this morning! Lovely vet called last night and reassured me I'm not doing the wrong thing. Back to see her this morning and she did mention that if Snow had improved, they would continue to treat her as assumed pancreatitis with injections, rather than have her in for more investigations. She's currently pigging a plateful of Sheba at high speed so fingers crossed!

I’m keeping everything crossed that she continues to eat. She’s been through so much and I definitely think you are doing the right thing. She’s a tough girl!

Justonedayatatime11 · 24/01/2019 12:44

Someone's home!! And feeling brave. Hasn't been sick in over 24 hours, appetite is back with a vengeance and she's perked up. Had more steroid and antisickness injections this morning and I've got some antisickness tablets to give if needed but vet thinks it was just a flare up. Phew.
She's definitely feeling better, she doesn't normally go nose to nose with Flick, or me for that matter!

Yaaayyyy! Go Snow! Give her a cuddle from me

Vinorosso74 · 24/01/2019 15:03

Brilliant update! She is a tough cookie.

TheLongRider · 24/01/2019 17:15

That's great news l! Tell her to hold onto all of her nine lives.

Justonedayatatime11 · 24/01/2019 18:06

I don't think she's got many lives left! She amazes me, she is the tiniest little scrap of a thing and yet she keeps on fighting and proving me and vets wrong. I just hope it continues for a long time to come

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 24/01/2019 18:08

Me too. A very long time. Pretty puss.

minkies11 · 24/01/2019 18:17

Keep fighting with her! She seems to have been on deaths door a fair few times before but keeps punching her way back. Don't give up on her yet as she obviously wants to live.

Justonedayatatime11 · 01/02/2019 18:05

Someone had her check up this morning... and for the first time ever, has a clean bill of health! Grin. No need for inhaler after all, just a single steroid a day. Relieved doesn't come close. She's celebrated with roast chicken and a roll on the bed!

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 01/02/2019 18:07

Someone looks very very happy. Wishing her many many more years of roast chicken! Grin

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 01/02/2019 18:08

Aw, the little pink and white bundle : ) What a fighter she is!

minkies11 · 01/02/2019 19:08

Aw she is gorgeous x so glad.

Vinorosso74 · 01/02/2019 19:12

Gorgeous kitty! I'm so pleased.

Gattara · 01/02/2019 19:48

aww, on the photo her pad looks heart shaped and she's holding it out to you!

Justonedayatatime11 · 01/02/2019 20:16

She is gorgeous now. Bang on 3kg, which is tiny compared to my others, but apparently exactly where the vet would like her to be. She just keeps on fighting bless her!
