We have one cat, but I was wondering who can be crowned the owner slave of the person who has the most cats ( and to be believed a pic would win extra points )

Catneuterer (you lovely person) where are you???!!!

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 13/11/2018 21:49

Growing up we had 12 cats. All very big personalities and all bossy! No pics I'm afraid. We also had a pooch and a couple of birds.
I now live with no pets 😞

Vinorosso74 · 13/11/2018 21:51

Oh I think thecatneuterer has a photo of several of the cats up on the bench too.

viccat · 13/11/2018 22:13

I just adopted cats number 4 & 5 and a fellow volunteer at the cat charity where I volunteer and adopted from had a word with me about my life choices. Grin I know many here have more than five though!

Lonecatwithkitten · 13/11/2018 22:29

I am a mere beginner compared to TCN with my two work acquisitions and my two step cats.

trinitybleu · 13/11/2018 22:41

We're at 9 over the last 18 years and 5 currently in residence.... 2 we intentionally sought out, 3 we adopted having been dumped and 4 strays that have adopted us.

My DD is some sort of cat whisperer.

thecatneuterer · 13/11/2018 22:50

Yup. It's me. Currently 25 or so permanents (although one was pts yesterday) and an extra 9 fosters. And that's down on a few weeks ago when my total was around 45.

And I never started out as a cat person! I was always an animal lover, but cats weren't particularly on my radar. Then my neighbours didn't take care of their cat, and I felt sorry for her, and took her on and very quickly fell down the slippery slope.

TCN I love how harmonious your cats are, my adopted pair spend half their time exchanging fisticuffs with each other even after 6 years.

thecatneuterer · 13/11/2018 23:06

Lonecat - I have read that once you get above a certain ratio of cats per sq metre they just give up on the idea of having their own territory and just chill out about the whole thing (ok, i'm paraphrasing, but that was the gist). It does seem to be borne out.

thecatneuterer · 13/11/2018 23:11

Whenever I introduce a new one the existing ones just give it a bit of a sniff and then ignore it. The newcomer usually seems to spend a few hours cowering and obviously thinking 'WTAF!' and hissing at any cat that comes near, but after a while of being ignored, including when big tailed and hissing, it just gives up, relaxes and gets on with life.

And they all seem to form very strong friendships. They sleep in a big heap. There are a number of very special friendships, but they all get on .

Costacoffeeplease · 13/11/2018 23:14

Am I second? Currently have 15 cats and two dogs. So far this year I’ve fostered 8 newborn kittens and 5 newborn puppies

SneakyGremlins · 13/11/2018 23:16

How big is your house????

thecatneuterer · 13/11/2018 23:23

My house? Average London terrace.

Costa - I personally think that one dog is equal in commitment to at least 15 cats.

userblablabla · 13/11/2018 23:25

Thecatneuterer I’m impressed your house looks so clean with 25 cats! Also I’m definitely jealous of your life!

sweetkitty · 13/11/2018 23:45

I so want more cats, currently 2, highest was 3.

VictoriaBun · 14/11/2018 06:10

Lol - early days in the post but just a few posts in and we have a worthy winner ! Wow.
Can I ask how much your cats cost you in food a week ?

Costacoffeeplease · 14/11/2018 07:20

We had 4 dogs up until a couple of years ago,

The cats are definitely easier to look after, unless they have to be boxed for a trip to the vet Smile and most are less needy than the dogs

TheClitterati · 14/11/2018 21:50

My elderly mum lives with her brother. They currently have 12 cats - 3 each, plus a stray mum and 5 kittens they have been looking after GrinGrin

They are both disabled and quite homebound and get so much enjoyment from the cats.

thecatneuterer · 15/11/2018 22:53

OP - I've never worked out what the food costs me, but it's probably £100 a week give or take. I only feed them on cans - sachets for that number would be too expensive, plus I'd spend my entire day opening the things.

Pixel99 · 15/11/2018 23:00

TCN - I do love that photo of all the cats on one fleecey cushion. I wish my two liked each other to snuggle up like that.

dontticklethetoad · 15/11/2018 23:07

@thecatneuterer please can we have more pictures of your piles of cats?

I am not in the running for craziest cat person, but I am obsessed with my 2 adopted mogs. I can't leave them alone. Fortunately for me one of them likes to curl up as close to my face as possible and the other likes a good rough and tumble fuss, so I get lots of attention Grin

MrsPawsitive · 16/11/2018 02:25

TCN, you're my hero. We have 19. It was that or life on the streets for them, meaning no life at all. You've been an inspiration for us to keep on trying to help the homeless ones who get dumped in the neighborhood Sad. You helped us believe it was worth stepping up. Flowers to you for all you do.

thecatneuterer · 16/11/2018 17:50

Thank you so much for that MrsPawsitive. The thing is though that I have the backing of an amazing charity behind me. Without that I wouldn't be able to do even a fraction of what I do and my stress levels (which aren't great as it is) would be off the chart. So really my admiration is more for people who do this stuff in countries where there are no animal charities nor any general animal welfare culture. I know I wouldn't be able to cope in that situation and would probably end up having a breakdown. Even doing this in the UK without a fantastic charity to rely on would be hugely difficut, so if that's what you're doing then you're the one who deserves admiration.

Vinorosso74 · 16/11/2018 19:03

Being crazy cat people who are able to help cats is fantastic! There are so many small rescues out there all trying their hardest.
I went to Battersea the other day with lots of other CP volunteers for a talk and tour. It was very interesting but I was amazed how flash it all is (especially compared to the CP centre I'm at!). They did say they have an incredible fundraising team which is clearly evident!! All the small guys just don't have that team to help raise funds which they all need.

POPholditdown · 16/11/2018 20:57

Very envious of thecatneuterer!smile

I have 3 (2 were strays) at my home. In total though I’ve helped get about 7 off the street - the ones I couldn’t take in myself, I chewed family members ears off til they agreed to home! When I go round I take them treats and toys like they’re my nephews and nieces 🤦‍♀️

I got another in to CP recently as she was young and poorly so there wasn’t much time to wait, but I hear she’s better now.

The third one I took in (tortie) decided enough was enough for me as she hates other cats!
