What is your cats typical daily diet?

Thirtyrock39 · 07/11/2018 21:07

We have had our cat nearly 7 weeks. She was quite thin when we got her from the rescue place but we went to the vet 3 weeks ago and they said she was a really healthy weight.
However she is always hungry ! I don't want to overfeed her - she's definitely put on weight since we got her but just wanted to see what other cats eat (our cat is about 3 years old)
This is typical days food-
6am (after miaowing for food) Felix pouch and handful of good quality dry
4pm Felix pouch
Through the day possibly 15 dreamies
And I'd say every other night I give her a couple of chunks of chicken or fish if we are having it for tea
Always make sure there is still some dry food overnight - about a handful (this is often still there when I come down the next morning though !!)
She fusses for food a lot, is fully wormed, and pretty active- out a fair bit in the day charging about
Does this sound ok?

Mine get half a pouch/tin each 3 times a day. Dry food is left out all day and lifted at night

YesItsMeIDontCare · 07/11/2018 21:12

Mine gets roughly the same as yours, but he's an indoor boy so he's burning off less calories than he would if he was free to roam.

motortroll · 07/11/2018 21:16

Mine gets 2 pouches a day and I keep the dry topped up.

You might find overtime it goes through cycles. My car is going through anless hungry stage and isn't finishing her pouches atm but a few weeks ago she kept asking for more!

Mine is also an indoor/outdoor cat

Taffeta · 07/11/2018 21:17

Outdoor cat 8 yo

Two small 85g pouches a day
Dry food out all the time (eats about 1/3 bowl a day)

Occasional kill eaten eg half a shrew etc

About 5-15 Dreamies a day

If I do a roast he gets some chicken & gravy

susurration · 07/11/2018 21:25

Suscat gets roughly 55g of complete feed dry biscuits once a day, so she doesn't need anything else. She eats when she feels like it. She is 10 years old and is quite little, spends most of her time in the house.

It's a bit over the recommended amount because we're trying to maintain her weight. She gets one small tin of tuna once a week as a treat and occasionally one of those meat sticks treats too.

She weighed 4.3kg until the beginning of summer, when she suddenly developed a IBD. She lost nearly 0.5kg in four days. Since then we've been trying to maintain her weight at 3.9kg and have had to up her food amount to do so. She was definitely at the higher end of ideal weight (if not a bit overweight really) before but it was a good job because it meant when she did get ill and lost weight it wasn't disastrous.

ozymandiusking · 07/11/2018 21:28

Do you not give her any tinned food at bedtime. For heavens sake give her more to eat!!

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 07/11/2018 21:28

Our two get two pouches each between them a day, and the crunchies bowl is always topped up. One is a little wisp of a thing and the other's like a sack of spuds!

The next thread in active is called 'sushi'. Now that would make for a happy cat Grin

MintyCedric · 07/11/2018 21:28

6 month old kittens - sachet each in the morning and again early evening. If they've completely cleaned their bowls by bedtime I put down about an egg cup each of dried food.

whathaveiforgottentoday · 07/11/2018 21:37

Half a pouch each per day then good quality dry morning and evening. Not lots but the boys definitely eat freshly caught mice, shrews and the occasional squirrel. Sometimes the better hunter doesn't come in for dinner so I guess he's not hungry.
My female was a rescue cat and she begs for food continually. I put it down to the fact she was found starving and pregnant when rescued. She rarely strays too far from the food bowl. Could this be the same for your hungry cat?

Thirtyrock39 · 07/11/2018 21:41

Yes I do wonder if she was underfed before going to the rescue.
She will pounce on anything the kids drop on the floor ( messy eaters!) eg was trying to eat a bit of cucumber that was on the kitchen floor yesterday bless her.

Our boy has fish or chicken for breakfast and then dry food available all the time. He gets anxious if he thinks there's no food available and the vet advises that it's better for him to be relaxed about food and a wee bit chubby, than a healthy weight but stressed about food availability.

Flamingoose · 07/11/2018 21:42

(He was a rescue too, which is where his issues stem from)

Vinorosso74 · 07/11/2018 21:44

Firstly, I don't work for Thrive but all the food ours has is theirs. He has one tin of wet and 30g dry each day. If he has any of the freeze dried treats I reduce the dry food a little.
About once every couple of weeks he has some boiled chicken or turkey which he removes from the plate and eats off the floor.
He would eat more but we're trying to not have a fat cat!

Noboozeforme · 07/11/2018 21:46

My two share a pouch in the morning plus a palm full of dry each and the same in the evening. Never sure if I'm under feeding them but they don't fuss for food and are certainly not skinny.

A friends cat eats 4 wet food pouches a day plus dry.

CrookedMe · 07/11/2018 21:49

Two or three pouches a day, of whatever kind of food I buy, he's not fussy!

Bowl of biscuits

Bowl of cat milk

Once a week some tuna or chicken.

He's a big boy but the vet doesn't think he's over fed.

oopslateagain · 07/11/2018 21:56

We have 3 cats, they get one 85g tin of cat food between them for breakfast, and have dry food out all the time (it's high quality food without fillers and they eat about 55-60g each per day). Plus Dreamies and the odd bit of fresh meat if I'm cutting some up.

Ollivander84 · 07/11/2018 21:58

A lot!
Between 1-4 pouches or small tins a day - he always has breakfast, then some down before I leave for work, tea after work and before bed supper. Constant dry food down
He's 3.5kg ish so I feed him as much as he wants

I do feed all grain free, high meat content

CMOTDibbler · 07/11/2018 21:58

I have 3 cats, and they have dry food down all the time. They are then fed wet food theoretically twice a day, but as the old girl is fond of the 'yell and yell then have one mouthful and walk off' tactic which then means boycat hoovers it up, I seem to be dispensing food most of the day.
They also supplement with what they catch..

Allergictoironing · 08/11/2018 08:28

2 indoor cats, half a pouch between them for breakfast and one pouch between them for supper, plus dry ad lib. One "big" treat a day e.g. either a meaty stick, yoghurt or 1/3 small tin of tuna, plus a few Dreamies. Both decent sized (4.8 and 6 kg), weight not changing and according to the vet not fat.

They do tend to fall on their meals as though they haven't been fed for days, but then leave a fair bit of the wet for later and there's always a little bit left when I clear the bowls at the next meal time.

Boycat does have the odd occasion where he bolts his down then promptly throws it back up, but I put that down to them being feral until about a year old.

YeOldeTrout · 08/11/2018 08:34

An unknown quantity of voles. Or rather, miscellaneous vole body parts.

NotUsedBySomeoneElse · 08/11/2018 08:42

4 pouches a day, and sometimes some Dreamies/other treats in between. Treats aren’t every day though. He doesn’t like dry food that much, but if we set up the auto-feeder when we’re away over night he has a bowl out to graze on.

4 might sound like a lot, but he’s not fat. He’s just a big cat. We drop to 3.5, sometimes 3 in winter when he’s lazier and doesn’t go out as much.

Lonecatwithkitten · 08/11/2018 08:46

Sounds plenty, high quality dry food is quite calorific most cats need around 50-60g per day with no other food.
The lone cats get
25g of c/d multicare each in the morning due to the posh arrogant boy's ongoing uribary issues.
One pouch of grain free wet food each in the evening.
They are both perfect body weight.
The lone step cats ( who don't live with lone yet) get
A pouch for breakfast
A pouch at lunchtime
A pouch in the evening all Felicia good as it looks.
Large quantities of Iams all day.
They are obese.
The lone step cats have a tremendous shock coming when we all move in together in a few weeks time!

StrawberryTraveller · 08/11/2018 08:49

6 Months old here. They seem to eat loads

100g approx each, 3 times per day of Animonda Carny (so 300g each per day)

Plus an unlimited bowl of Applaws kitten dry biscuits. Some days they don't eat any, other days they eat this overnight or whenever hungry in between.

They also get freeze dry Cosma snacks some days.

They are only 2.4kg and 2.6kg each, so I assume they must burn it all off charging around the house and beating each other up.

PeridotCricket · 08/11/2018 08:53

A lot. He weighs 14lbs. 4 to 6 sachets a day. Sometimes we replace a sachet with dry. V rarely dreamiest. He’s just a big outdoor cat. Two breakfasts, lunch, tea and supper. And another sachet if he can bully someone into it.

Vet says he’s fine, just big.

I think your cat might need more....

MsSquiz · 08/11/2018 09:06

We have 2 4 year old girls (house cats)
Daily they get:
7am - tin of tuna (applaws 70g) between them
4pm - tin of tuna (applaws 70g) between them
Bowl of applaws biscuits available all day

Every other evening they'll have a few dreamies each or something similar

A little while back we did try them on a tin each, but it just wasn't getting eaten so it was getting wasted
