What is your cats typical daily diet?

We have had our cat nearly 7 weeks. She was quite thin when we got her from the rescue place but we went to the vet 3 weeks ago and they said she was a really healthy weight.
However she is always hungry ! I don't want to overfeed her - she's definitely put on weight since we got her but just wanted to see what other cats eat (our cat is about 3 years old)
This is typical days food-
6am (after miaowing for food) Felix pouch and handful of good quality dry
4pm Felix pouch
Through the day possibly 15 dreamies
And I'd say every other night I give her a couple of chunks of chicken or fish if we are having it for tea
Always make sure there is still some dry food overnight - about a handful (this is often still there when I come down the next morning though !!)
She fusses for food a lot, is fully wormed, and pretty active- out a fair bit in the day charging about
Does this sound ok?

1 year old cats - 2 handfuls of Sanabelle kitten (about to be Sanabelle adult) a day. Plus half a small tin of Animonda Carny each. 3-5 Cosmas Snackies each. One cat also supplements with mice.

Old cat - as much Sanabelle Senior dry food as she can persuade us to feed her. She gets underweight so we do feed on demand.

All cats will also hoover up any leftover cat food of any description left lying around. Animonda Carny is gone in seconds if left unattended.

1 year old cats will behave like they have never ever been fed before in their whole lives. Despite this we are mean owners and only feed them twice a day - lazy one has already got a tendency to fat.

Two kittens, about 9 and 6 months roughly. A pouch each at 7am and the same at 7pm. The bowl of Applaws dry kitten is kept topped up but not loads and there's usually some left. A few Dreamies each day if I'm around.

My senior girl has 1 1/2 foil trays of Animonda Integra renal wet food (sometimes she leaves some of it...) She's losing weight now in her old age and due to hyperthyroidism and renal disease.

18 month old siblings get 1 pouch of Almo Nature sensitive wet each for breakfast, a small amount (about a tablespoon) of Arden Grange dry in the afternoon and a scoop of Pure Petfood Chicken (rehydrated) each for dinner. They are both very active and a great weight.

My newest additions are 14 weeks old and eat as much as they want of Sanabelle kitten dry, and either Nature's Menu kitten pouches, Animonda Carny kitten wet or Pure Petfood Chicken as their wet food meals two or three times a day.

13 year old neutered ginger Tom who is very greedy has 60g of royal canin satiety a day. And a toddler sized handful of digestive ease food as treat.

We recently moved to wet food but we had to move back as he would be constantly bothering up for food. As in would repeatedly hit us in the face at 4 in the morning.

Our vet told us one dreamie the equlivant of a mini mars bar to a cat. So 15 treats a day is a lot of treats.

I always suspected our boy was a piggy in a fur coat, and now I’m convinced! He has six(!) pouches of Felix a day and often some milk or a small handful of dry food. He is big, 6kg but not fat at all...the vet says he is fine. He’s an outdoor chap though you’d not know it from his sleepy heap behaviour!

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/11/2018 21:54

3 or 4 pouches and dry if it’s a three pouch day.

Occasionally more if he convinces dh he hasn’t been fed.....

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/11/2018 07:03

Harry has a pouch of Country Hunter goose flavour at 7am, 12g of James Wellbeloved dry at 1pm, another goose pouch at 7pm and another 12g of biscuits at whatever time we wake up during the night.

He weighs around 5.5kg which he always has done and the vet doesn't mention his weight so I presume he's doing ok.

Rockbird · 09/11/2018 07:03

Bloody hell! What's in Dreamies then?

dementedpixie · 09/11/2018 07:31

Dreamies have 2 calories each so I don't think I believe what they are saying

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 09/11/2018 07:36

We have 2 outdoor cats who will eat anything from 2-6 pouches a day - a system we call demand feeding - with constant access to dry food. Plus whatever treats they can scrounge, whatever they catch and whatever they can steal (cheese, mainly; milk out of the DC cereal bowls as they look the other way) Some days it's more, generally they eat on the way in/out and if it's raining that's 20 times a day just checking on the weather.

KittyMcKitty · 09/11/2018 07:38

My 7 year old cat eats as much Purina One Chicken dry food as she wants plus whatever she catches outside (sometimes this is quite a bit!).

She refuses to eat any other kind of cat food. She is quite a small scraggy looking cat but the vet says she is the perfect weight and a picture of health. I’ve read many bad things here about Purina One but the vet says it’s one of the better complete cat foods.

Beaverhausen · 09/11/2018 07:39

I have 11 cats and about 4 strays that I feed.

I feed the strays around 6am with whiskas wet and they get Hills Science Plan for throughout the day around 4pm I put out another tin of whiskas for them and then again half a tin around 10pm.

My own cats are on a raw diet but I do put out dry kibble for them which is Purizon. They do get Dreamies put into a work for your treat box, where they have to fiddle about.

When I volunteered for Cats Protection, i was told that 4 dreamies constitute a cheeseburger. :)

Lauren83 · 09/11/2018 08:06

I have 5 and they have a sachet each at 6am and 5pm and biscuits throughout the day and before bed, I don't leave them out as one will eat them all, they have dreamies, those sticks and cat yoghurts for extra snacks

scottishthistle77 · 09/11/2018 09:41

Both my cat's each get 70-100g twice a day of either a complete raw food (rabbit, turkey or horse) or meat (pork, lamb or kangaroo) with a powdered supplement mixed in to make complete.

My ragdoll Hamish also gets a large defrosted mouse once a day, which is much anticipated and gone in seconds. He'd happily live on just mice and has been known to go on hunger strike hoping I'll give in and give him more, but they're too expensive to feed more than 1 daily.

They both also get the occasional Cosma Snackies treat (freeze dried 100% meat, like Thrive but cheaper).

Thirtyrock39 · 02/04/2019 18:39

Just as an update after a few months from posting this my cat was starting to look fat- had put on about a kg and had a barrel look to her so I have reduced to half a pouch of Felix in the morning , half at tea time , a couple of handfuls of lilys kitchen dry and max of 6 dreamies a day if at all
Now she's really settled in she's not so obsessive with food and will often leave some- I'm binning quite a bit - and treats such as chicken or tuna are occasional now and she isn't begging for food like she was at first
A friend at work had a rescue who put on a lot of weight and the vet advised that for a female cat 2 pouches is to much
It's annoying that you can't easily find out how much cats should have though
