I’ve made a rookie error ...

New kitten arrived this week. In my concern that he might not eat as too stressed etc ( misplaced concern as it turns out as by day 2 he was already boss of the house - even my 6 year old remarked this morning that said kitten was ‘very bossy’ as he instructed DS loudly to first play and then cuddle) I gave him some cooked chicken and fish to tempt him.

Big mistake. Whilst he will deign to eat his cat food, if lightly warmed, for his supper and snack on biscuits he now demands (loudly) chicken or fish for breakfast. I thought I’d hold out this morning but after 40 minutes of yelling he won. He even picked it out of the cat food piece by piece.

He came to me on royal cabin kitten and I was hoping to change him gradually to better quality but not to cooked chicken ...

Yes. Yes, very distressing, but where is the picture?

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/10/2018 12:59

Yeah your screwed there. At least it wasn't well hung grouse you used.

Ilovecrumpets · 05/10/2018 13:07

Ha ha Fluffy very true, although he may have had a few prawns to encourage bonding with the kids.

@theyprobablywill I did post a piccie on another thread but if you are going to force me to share my gorgeous kitty pic again I guess I will Wink

Yabu to think such a beauty would eat anything but hand reared /organic /free range chicken in the first place.
You haven't got the hang of this dcat slave business have you op?

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/10/2018 13:13

He's beautiful what breed is he? I'm useless with orientals.

So, prawns, chicken, fish. Anything else? at least you'll never cook alone again.

Theyprobablywill · 05/10/2018 13:13

Oh dear, I can see you will have problems with that mean old kitty. If you pm me you address I will, as a special favour, take him off your hands!

Papergirl1968 · 05/10/2018 13:14

Ahh, a Siamese - or is he a Burmese? An oriental anyway...
We had a Siamese kitten when I was a teenager who was rather undersized when he arrived and it transpired he hated cat food of all kinds, and would try to scratch it over.
Of course after a day or two of him on hunger strike we caved in, and he only ate human food. Whatever we were having - chicken, steak, etc.
The yowling is so loud compared to moggies - and who can resist those big blue eyes?
He looks a rather determined little guy - you can see from the way he is sitting that he means business!
He is gorgeous!

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 05/10/2018 13:19

😍 Those blue eyes looking at you with such reproach! 😍

You made a biiig mistake there, OP.

You'll be handcooking breakfast for ever more, now. 🤣

Toddlerteaplease · 05/10/2018 13:19

He's got you right under the paw! Accept your status as a slave.

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/10/2018 13:22

Oh my goodness he's beautiful

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/10/2018 13:29

I have visions of the family on toast and cereal for the next 20 years while the cat has some nice smoked haddock, un-dyed, poached gently on the stove.

I can hear my Bengal through ear plugs, he could wake the dead.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 05/10/2018 13:29

Can't believe he's having to rough it with chicken or fish. That face is telling you that only the finest smoked salmon and caviar will do. I'm also assuming he only drinks vintage champagne from a crystal bowl? (Feeling glad I don't have posh cats - but he is absolutely lovely Grin).
So being serious - Yes I'm afraid I think you have made a rookie error.

Theweasleytwins · 05/10/2018 14:14

Awwwwww

Olinguito · 05/10/2018 14:52

Oh my goodness, he's beautiful! He does look very much in charge. I always find it funny that such small animals can be so dictatorial!

Ilovecrumpets · 05/10/2018 14:56

Ha ha everyone. It is genuinely slightly scary how under the thumb I am in such a short space of time.

He is a traditional Siamese - so doesn’t have the very enlongated features. But does possess the very loud voice. I’d forgotten quite how chatty they can be.

He’s also a real cuddle monster. Demanded immediately when someone enters the room of course. Face pat reminders if after 30 minutes I dare to take a break from stroking to check a phone message ....

Fluffy as I was gently poaching his fish this morning I did keep checking it to ensure it wasn’t over cooked and dry in any way ... As of course that would not do.

They say you learn from your mistakes, but no way is he going to let you forgetGrin. You started it OP, now I'm afraid you have to live with it. Rookie mistake for sure. His look says it all.

Aprilislonggone · 05/10/2018 16:10

Maybe you need to employ a professional food taster? A dapper man in a tuxedo on hand to check it's the correct temperature.
You really need to step up and pander to all his needs op.

mimibunz · 05/10/2018 16:31

He’s a beauty! What’s his name? He sounds like a typical bossy and vocal Asian cat! 😹 We had one who would demand to sit on my dad’s lap and insist on being carried up to bed at her appointed hour. Lovely girl she was!

TERFMcDuck · 05/10/2018 19:11

I'm afraid you're screwed now - a Siamese will never forget or let you forget it! He is beautiful though so clearly worth it Grin. May I ask where you found his breeder? I'd like another when mine goes (18yo 'old' style Siamese) but I'm struggling to find any that breeds the traditional/classic Siamese.

Mine doesn't really like 'normal' cat food but loves Orijen or Acana biscuits and Meowing Heads tinned food. They have a high meat content with minimal/no fillers so you don't need to feed loads Smile.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 05/10/2018 20:10

Perhaps this slave is owned by a Siamese......

You need to be firm with him. CharlieAlphaTango is very bossy but I am much bigger and more dexterous than him. I control his food.

Libbylongtree · 05/10/2018 21:13

That is a cat who knows his place in the family (at the top, obviously).

Lynne1Cat · 05/10/2018 21:27

What a beautiful kitty! I buy my Mr Cooper a turkey leg now and then, and I cook it in the slow cooker. He loves that. He has tinned fish, turns his nose up at fresh stuff.

fuzzywuzzy · 05/10/2018 21:35

Try applies maybe? Ours eat that. One of ours would sit and meow at me whenever I was cooking king prawns or chicken. I always had to give him some chopped up before he’d let me cook.
