Cat's not right

We have an appointment in one hour. I've had her for 10 years and she's never been ill before.

Appointment was booked anyway but today she pooed in her tail whilst curled up and there wasn't anything I could do apart from clean up the the surroundings then gently try to clean her tail with baby shampoo. She was very passive and let me do it.

Anyway vets soon.

Sorry for you loss. Flowers

Bowerbird5 · 28/06/2018 22:41

So sorry to hear that. I remember having to let vet put my daughter's cat down. She unexpectedly survived a bad car accident but about five years later we had to let her go as she had about a year of on and off paralysis dragging her back legs one minute then chasing a bird another. It was so sad my daughter was broken hearted. My daughter had been chosen by the cat at an animal refuge and they loved each other dearly. We had other cats which hadn't survived a year yet we live in a quiet village. I said no more after that but she is arriving home (from uni/ plus stay ) with a cat next week!

Just remember you have given her a lovely life.

littlepooch · 28/06/2018 22:45

I'm so sorry Thanks

Vinorosso74 · 28/06/2018 23:00

RIP puss. It is the hardest thing you have to do as a pet owner but she was clearly loved and you did the right thing for her at the end. Please don't feel guilty and please look after yourself.

LanguidLobster · 28/06/2018 23:06

She needed to go but I'm sitting here with a dead puss on my lap. I'll cuddle her tonight but I have no idea what to do with the body tomorrow.

She's still warm. Wanker ex is texting me saying I'm 'making this up', I want to smack him the same I do seagulls. I told him to contact the vet practice

I understand the not wanting to leave her but can the vets keep her while you decide what to do? Are any or the nurses/support staff around to sit with you/talk to you?

EachandEveryone · 28/06/2018 23:45

Is this the little one that escaped to the neighbours the other day? Bloody hell what a horrible shock you poor thing. Ypu can still come on here but only if you feel like it. Im so sorry Flowers

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/06/2018 08:51

I'm so sorry Languid Flowers

RIP little one.

HeGotManFlu · 29/06/2018 09:09

Just want to see if you're ok this morning, it's so terribly sad when we lose our beloved pets, Flowers

LanguidLobster · 29/06/2018 09:31

I've got absolutely no idea what to do - I cuddled her all last night (appointment was quite late, OOH vets - they'd been trying to tell me during the day she had to be let go) and now I have a dead little cat.

I don't have a garden and am entirely unsure what to do with her. I'm not about to put her in the bin. Cremation?

I had to contact exH as well (we got her together) to say she's gone

I'm so sorry very sorry to hear this.

I get all my animals cremated, and then their ashes will be mixed with mine when the end comes. Could that be an idea for you?

LanguidLobster · 29/06/2018 09:58

Time I might have to do that.

The practicalities of having a little dead cat in my flat are starting to strike me. I keep wondering if I made the wrong decision but vets said she'd been poisoned and was too ill so I wanted her out of pain.

I held her paw as she died. I think as she was such a lovable little thing it would be nice to cremate and have a small 'ceremony'. She seemed to be recovering yesterday morning, this happened so fast

I've cremated my pets with the view of being buried with them when the time comes. Might not be a popular view but it's given me some comfort.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/06/2018 10:15

Google pet cremation. I did yesterday and found a local one that is run similar to a human funeral director. When the time comes that is what I will do with Fatty.
I don't want to be insensitive but in this heat you need do decide quickly.
So very sorry for your loss. She sounds like a lovely cat who knew she was loved.
BrewCakeThanksThanks

LanguidLobster · 29/06/2018 10:31

I'll drop off her leftover food in the food bank (someone might have a cat and will use it)

I'm such a fucking shit cat owner, she's had fleas and I used indorex and an OTC treatment. I hate to think I caused her pain.

She has left a few of her fleas however, must be her last legacy (thanks cat!)

Want2beme · 29/06/2018 10:35

Very sorry for your loss. I think a cremation for her is the thing to do. My kitty was cremated through the vet and I have his ashes in a lovely little box with his name on itFlowers

4littlebirds · 29/06/2018 10:42

If you take her back to vets they can dispose of her body.
Or they can organise a cremation, usually with the option of getting her ashes back in plain box, or fancy box.
There might be other things they can organise, but they’re the two I am unfortunately familiar with.
Sorry for your loss.

LanguidLobster · 29/06/2018 10:51

Actually it's starting to intensely upset me today having her little body here. I keep expecting her to get up and have a brain disconnect that she's not here.

I'll have to wrap her up in a sec and get on with showering/travelling.

OP posts:
LanguidLobster · 29/06/2018 10:59

It is actually my fault. She'd always been an outdoors cat before and when we moved here I fretted about her having a little stroll outside. So I let her, and she picked up fleas. But blamed our flat for the fleas.

So then I allowed more outside access but she nibbled something harmful. It's quite a lesson actually but I miss her so much

OP posts:
EachandEveryone · 29/06/2018 11:09

Was it in the house next door? Could it be from outside if she was used to going out with you on a lead?

Are you working today? Can u call the vet now and drop her in? Please dont blame yourself its just one of those things and you worshipped her. Try and do something nice today if you can xFlowers

TimeIhadaNameChange · 29/06/2018 11:16

It's not your fault. Honest. It is a tough decision to make, letting them go out, but I'd rather my cat lived the life she loved, chasing things outside, with the risk that she could meet her fate out there, rather than keeping her inside where she'd be miserable.

Where in the country are you? I recommend the Nairn Pet Crem if you're anywhere nearby. The people who run it are absolutely lovely.

LanguidLobster · 29/06/2018 11:33

She was starting to get gaseous so I've wrapped her in a silk jacket and we're having a lunchtime farewell. Poor little puss

Thanks all anyway, I'll probably be a right whinger today

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/06/2018 11:42

Please don't blame yourself, it's not your fault.

When William was PTS we had him individually cremated his ashes are in a wooden box with his name on. He lived with Mum so she had his ashes and I had some in a memorial heart with a paw print on it. There are so many things you can have.

Thinking of you and sending you lots of love

LanguidLobster · 29/06/2018 11:58

Thanks PinkSparkly and all.

Phoned council and they actually advised me (off record) to bury in the park which she loved? I don't fancy sneaking around at the dead of night with a trowel.

I do know some woodland parks near the beach which I think would be suitable though. I really did love her to bits and won't forget her. Can't believe this photo is from a few days ago.

She's left me with some fleas!

It isn't your fault. All she will have known with you is love and happiness.
