Someone has taken my cat

I leave her in communal (very small) garden a lot as she likes it.

She can't open the door to the street or the door to our flat by herself. So that means someone came in and has taken her early this morning (I discovered at 9.30am).

I've texted local police officer to say tell me if any news but don't know what to do :(

You'll need to explain the garden more, won't she have just jumped the fence/wall?

LanguidLobster · 24/06/2018 13:35

It's not possible to jump the wall, it's too high.

Allergictoironing · 24/06/2018 13:37

Is there any chance that someone else let her out by mistake, or she sneaked into someone else's flat?

milkjetmum · 24/06/2018 13:38

How high is too high? No bushes etc to get a leg up? Anyway is she chipped? All you can do is notify cats protection and r any local vets to look out for her being brought in. Or walk around shaking treat bag in case someone just accidentally let her out opening gate and she can't find her way home.

HarrietSchulenberg · 24/06/2018 13:39

Cats can jump surprisingly high, and usr their claws to scrabble the last few inches. Unless it's about 20ft high it's more likely she's bounced herself out than been nabbed.

Hassled · 24/06/2018 13:39

Isn't it more likely that someone opened the door to the street and she got out then? Who else has access to the garden - have you asked them if they saw her? I hope she makes her way back soon.

4littlebirds · 24/06/2018 13:43

If it’s a communal garden then presumably other people have access to it, have you checked with your neighbours ?
Perhaps one of them has opened the gate to the street and she’s gone for a wonder?

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 24/06/2018 13:44

Do the other users of the communal garden know not to let her out of the garden because if not they may presume she can come and go as she pleases and may have let her out?

EmmaSwann · 24/06/2018 13:45

Ask all your neighbours- presumably one of them knows something. There's a lot of idiots out there who see a cat miaowing and think "ah poor kitty it's lost" and "help" it by taking it home.

LanguidLobster · 24/06/2018 13:46

She never goes out to the street by herself when the door is opened, I carry her out when I take her for a walk on a lead. Her food is not eaten.

Actually I'm too upset about this at the moment I'll post later, thanks

We've had our cat taken by a neighbour in the next street. She feeds her constantly and due to foxes once in the next street she can't come back.
The neighbour was very abusive when I asked her to stop feeding her so there is nothing I can do without involving the police.

If you register her as lost it will be flagged on her microchip so if she is at any vets or charity they will scan her and get in touch with you; hope you get her back soon, I know how awful it feels.

What a horrible post when somebody is worried about her cat.

LolaLilo · 24/06/2018 13:53

Cats can jump v high

LanguidLobster · 24/06/2018 14:00

reallyanotherone no kids here.

Phone number: police officer happened to be walking by when I came out of my front door very nervously (nesting seagulls opposite, they had went for me and the cat) and he asked me what the matter was so I said and he gave me his mobile number.

Aww, Languid that’s such a shame. You must be beside yourself.

Maybe someone is protecting her from gulls?

We have gulls round our way, a chick fell off the roof so we went round to the neighbours to warn them not to let their cat out as the parents were dive bombing everyone.

4littlebirds · 24/06/2018 14:08

Is there anywhere for her to hide in the garden, if she’s frightened of the birds she might have took cover.

Also, I know this sounds stupid but have you checked your home properly for her. I can remember thinking my cat was outside and spending ages looking for him, to find him snoozing on the bed.

viccat · 24/06/2018 14:20

The garden doesn't sound very safe... Was she there all night?

I would start walking the streets looking for her if you've made sure no one else in the building has taken her. It's better to start searching as soon as possible rather than wait, especially if she has no way to access the garden or your home if she's got out onto the streets or over a fence.

Wolfiefan · 24/06/2018 14:25

Mine easily scale the 6 foot fence. They are very agile. Could she have sneaked into a neighbour's house?

HeGotManFlu · 24/06/2018 14:30

That is very upsetting, I hope you find her soon.

LanguidLobster · 24/06/2018 16:00

I honestly don't think I'll ever see her again, it's such a freak occurance.

I've checked with neighbours the other side of the wall and they haven't seen her, it really is too high for her anyway. They were kind and said they'd look out and hoped she'd get back ok.

Courtyard is really sheltered and narrow, quite shielded. I thought it was safe.

I went out last night as a friend cooked and got back 9.45pm approx, fed her on the way in. Then went out again to put more down (which wasn't touched) and went to sleep a few hours later. Woke up just after 9am and went out to take water/food and she was gone. No-one should be using the doors that early

OP posts:
EachandEveryone · 24/06/2018 17:05

Can you take a picture of the courtyard? Maybe we might have some more idea as i cant visualise it.

Outside are you near to roads? Is she a pedegree would someone want to nick her?

Fingers crossed for you that she wont be far.

HeGotManFlu · 24/06/2018 17:27

Was she out in the yard all night, is that usual, did you hear anything at all.

Wolfiefan · 24/06/2018 17:31

No cat should be out all night. Maybe she was shouting and someone took her in. Was there any shelter? Anywhere she could be hiding?
How high exactly? Ours have been known to get roof height!

MrsCatE · 24/06/2018 17:32

Oh shit Languid I know how much you love your cat and have had sudden onset health issues. Hand hold, hug and Flowers

Crossing fingers, toes, also my cat doing same. X
