She's home!

So... finally, after four VERY long months... my Savvy cat is home Smile. Many 100 mile round trips, home checks, questions... but she's home and the sheer joy to see her running and climbing after being in a tiny room in the rescue for so long. Made it all worth it

She's home!

MrsPawsitive · 02/06/2018 21:14

She looks like Queen of all she surveys in those pictures! She's lovely.

LanguidLobster · 02/06/2018 21:17

Brilliant she's home :)

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/06/2018 21:32

OMG. She’s huge! And gorgeous!.

Poor girl being cooped up like that.

Justonedayatatime11 · 02/06/2018 21:43

I know. As soon as she was in the garden she was straight up the climbing frame and in the apple trees. Very glad the garden is cat proofed! She's safely tucked up now, been a big day for her! Just so glad she's home after all the hassle of getting her!

Wow. She's gorgeous. What was the reason they were stringing you along?

Justonedayatatime11 · 02/06/2018 22:43

I really don't know Toddler. Very bizarre. At least she's home now and that's all that matters. She's got an almighty set of teeth on her though... been told she may like day old chicks as a treat, apparently you can but them frozen from pet shops which sell them as reptile food. Not too sure how I feel about that!

Glad you persevered! I'm sure she's worth it. Good luck with the chicks! Confused

^^ This for me too! She's just beautiful!

I know it was frustrating for you, but an F4 Savannah is very different from a domestic breed, and from what I've heard they are even further from the domestics than Bengals. So better that the rescue went overboard on the suitability checks than the other way - she was in the rescue for a reason, which was most likely that she'd been previously owned by someone who got a Savvy for the looks & image, & wasn't prepared for the reality.

Well done getting her - she's insanely gorgeous and it looks like she's got the perfect home Smile Flowers

Justonedayatatime11 · 03/06/2018 09:49

This is Savvy's story. Yes, I absolutely do understand why the rescue were so thorough and there are no words to express how much they've done for her and how lucky we are to have her. My cats are all insured anyway, but her story just highlights the importance of pet insurance

This is Savvy.
Savvy is an F4 Savannah and her name has been changed to protect the guilty.

In the last few hours, this is what we have found out about her life via her veterinary history and paperwork and it makes us a bit sad.

In 2016 Owner #1 bred her and at 12 weeks old sold her to Owner #2 who lived 330 miles away. Owner #2 paid £600 and collected Savvy, complete with a neutering agreement, four weeks free insurance, pedigree papers, full vaccinations, microchipped and with feeding and care instructions.

In December 2016 Owner #2 got Savvy neutered in line with the deal and bought her some expensive kitty treats and worming tablets while waiting to collect her post-surgery.

Fast forward to 8 days ago when Owner #2 took her to the vets with injuries consistent with an RTA. She was given pain relief and a long acting antibiotic and sent home and asked to return for x-rays and tail amputation, for which she was given a quote.

Owner #2 took Savvy home and went on a well known internet site and advertised her as 'Free to good home'.

Owner #3 met Owner #2 in a car park on Thursday night to collect Savvy. Savvy was in a cat carrier already and was handed over with all her documentation and pain medication. Owner #3 was told Savvy had been in a car accident but was recovering well.

Owner #3 took Savvy to her vet the next morning where she was found, alongside her existing injuries, to have fly eggs in her coat as her spinal injury was preventing her from cleaning herself. She was cleaned up and received a repeat dose of the same long acting antibiotic then sent home and asked to return for x-rays and tail amputation, for which Owner #3 was given a quote.

Owner #3 couldn't afford to take on a cat with an uninsured injury and did the most responsible thing that anyone ever did for Savvy, she started ringing round animal rescue organisations.

We are Owner #4 and once she has received all the medical care she needs we look forward Savvy finding her Owner #5, all before she's two years old.

Welcome to ............ and we promise you that your life is now as precious as every other soul who comes into our care. Now you are priceless princess

She is indeed "insanely gorgeous"!

pinkgirl1234 · 03/06/2018 09:50

Oops x-post. She's just fab though OP. Amazing cat!

pinkgirl1234 · 03/06/2018 09:56

Oh that story is so sad. Sad

Lucky Savvy to have you.

viccat · 03/06/2018 10:30

Sad story but now she has her forever home. Did she have her tail amputated?

I hope you don't mind me saying that letting her out on the first day even if your garden is cat proofed seems very risky though. Especially as she is a climber, there is still an escape risk from cat proofed gardens and she is not yet bonded to the house. I'd keep her in for at least 2-3 weeks, ideally more like 4-6, before letting her explore the garden.

Justonedayatatime11 · 03/06/2018 11:44

Yes, her tail was amputated. Completely understand about her not really being allowed out yet, but the garden is entirely cat proofed and there are 2 of us out there with her at all times. She's now about to get a chick so we'll see how that goes!
