The litter tray

Should I do anything about a smelly splint??

The dressing has been on her leg for two weeks one more week to go thank god. It’s not bothered her too much. She has a go when I take her collar off so she can wash herself. There is a small bald patch at the top of the dressing. Not broken down. Trouble is that it smells. I thought she had wind as she’s bee
Living off Gourmet which she’s never had before and which she seems to be addicted to. Is it that bad for her she’s housebound so I’m giving her what she wants. I’ve. put my nose to the dressing and it does pong I’m scared there’s a sore there but I can’t see anything and it’s all intact. I’m also scared that if I go back to the vets she will redress it and add more weeks to it which is what happened when she the pot fell off.

Could it be just generally using the litter tray do you think?

She has a huge bandage on. She has been sutured as the sore is open and infected. Unfortunately its in a position on her leg which will stretch when she moves so the vet isnt convinced the sutures will stay in place. We have to go back tomorrow and the dressing will be removed then as the vet wants the air to get to the wound. Then I'll have to clean it three times a day. Shes had an antibiotic jab to last for two weeks and she has twice a day painkillers.

On the upside the fracture has healed. Also the new head nurse is someone that cat sat for me and has returned to nursing but is still cat sitting and she has offered to look after them when im in hospital which is sweet especially as she could come at 1830 after work.

Poor girl looks sorry for herself. Good job you're a nurse so you have plenty experience in the wound cleaning (on less furry patients).
That would be perfect if she could pop in on the girls for you.

It’s not great news the vet said it looks better but wanted it exposed. Daphne went straight for it even with the buster collar on so we have to go back on Thursday. She has given me the option of leaving her there or paying for a nurse to take her home. I’m not sure really we are going home now and I’m working tonight and tomorrow night. She has a dressing on it’s when it comes off it’s a worry.

She’s started metronidazole any tips on gettin her to take the tablets?

Has the vet given you any thoughts on the sutures? (Is it the same vet who carried out the procedure by the way?) I'm assuming that the costs would be picked up by insurance?

Yes she said she was surprised they had stayed in but they are very sore looking. Shes re bandaged and we see her again thursday i think by then she will really push to keep the bandage off but my girl is obbsessed i dont think shell leave them alone.

She was wiped out yesterday could it be the metronidazole? I was dreading getting in this morning after a night duty but she was very perky. Takes her tablets beautifully if I hide them in a dreamie (not easy) and fingers crossed when we go to the vets tomorrow it will be healing. I don’t know how we are going to manage without the dressing though. The stitches are too tempting for her even with the vista collar on.

Have you been to the vets yet?

Just got back. It was a young new vet she was very lovely. She was different and so was her approach. She said it’s nearly dry so to
Leave the dressing off and she mustn’t be left alone without the collar. She’s desperate to get hold of it to clean it. I’m taking her back on Monday. Any ideas how to let her eat with the collar on? The soft collar won’t do as the stitches are on the bend of her leg.

Have you got anything (eg an old cardboard box) to raise her bowls a bit? (The liquid is the important thing for her.)

She can get to her fountain and has been using it. Shes lost weight but not too drastic. I have got a box ill try that.

Shes brighter in herself but she still has a temperature. Ive managed to find a metronidazole tablet which will last for four doses. I have had no luck with the liquid form. The stiches are still holding, i feel desperately sorry for her its a battle getting her to put the collar on.

Two weeks today the op is.

I’ve just had a small battle but the tablets are much easier unfortunately Dolly ate a dose and has got straight back to bed furious. I’m gone for 13 hours now and the same tomorrow then vets Friday morning. She’s not burning up at least today.

I’m ok just get really tired but painfree and practising my pelvics!

I'm glad that you're pain free - it's so very very tiring and spirit-lowering.

The stitches are out!! Still on antibiotics for two more days. She has a very sore pad but it’s not broken the vet thinks it’s over cleaning.

I’m just so pleased for her

That's great news. Plus it will help when you decide what you will do when you have to go in for your own operation as well.
