And what does that all cover? Trying to budget sensibly here ...

OP posts:
Moominfan · 06/04/2018 17:40

15quid a month insurance.
Buy worming/flea treatment every 3 months but more in summer so say 3pcm.
Food I buy dry from Aldi available all day and 1 pouch in morning so say 10 pcm.
Litter stuff 6 pcm outside cat that comes in to use her letterbox annoyingly

Moominfan · 06/04/2018 17:40

Insurance prices vary massively we went with petplan

kittensinmydinner1 · 06/04/2018 17:47

2 x pusskins.
Insurance £11 (very plush version probably includes cosmetic surgery for when they're old and wrinkly Wink.. but needed top cover as we have a busy road in roaming distance.)

Food.. bog standard tins which they appear to love . Average £2.50 for 6. A tin a day between them.

Worming and fleas as poster above. Avg about £4 a month.

Total for 27.00.
(My mum pays for their dreamie habit )

Toddlerteaplease · 06/04/2018 17:50

2x indoor cats:
£42 insurance
£20 health club at the vets.
£10 food.
£12 litter.
But worth every single penny!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 06/04/2018 17:57

1 very expensive cat!

£28 insurance
£55 wet food
£5 dry food (it lasts him a long time)
£12 healthy pet club (I’d be greatful if those who know him don’t laugh!)
£10 Litter
£10 Ipakitine
£40 Savings for the cat sitter to cover holidays

I’d be rich if we didn’t have him, but he’s worth every penny!

AlishaMary · 06/04/2018 17:57

£15 food
£15 insurance
£11 vets plan which covers flea/wormer/vaccinations/checkup
£8 for annual hol cattery cost

So that’s £49 Shock

Toddlerteaplease · 06/04/2018 18:22

Pink. Gorgeous boy costs £55 a month in wet food?!!! He is one pampered puss. The toddler girls are not impressed that they don't have such a varied diet!

Buckingfrolicks · 06/04/2018 18:29

Far far too damn much.

Picky eater so huge amounts are thrown away.

MrsHathaway · 06/04/2018 18:29

£33. 3yo who goes outside but is fairly timid and lazy so doesn't go far.

Petplan insurance (middle tier cover).

Vet's "health club" paid monthly to cover annual vaccinations, monthly parasite treatments and twice-annual check ups.

Felix wet and Royal Canin dry.

Wood pellet litter - only uses it at night so doesn't need frequent changes.

MrsHathaway · 06/04/2018 18:31

Fwiw we buy food online which massively reduces the cost. Buy in bulk through Amazon (wet) or Zoo something (sorry, can't remember - dry).

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 06/04/2018 18:56

Toddler, that’s the problem, it’s not varied as he’ll only eat Country Hunter chicken and goose flavour! At one point he ate all the flavours but now he only eats that one and walks away in disgust if anything else goes down.

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 06/04/2018 19:14

Glad to see someone else spends a fortune on wet food! My DP is slightly horrified by how much I spend but he is admiring of our cat's glossy black coat. Confused

TheSecondOfHerName · 06/04/2018 20:36

£10 on insurance
£12 on vet plan (includes flea & worm prevention)
£10 on food (small cat, doesn't eat much)
£5 on litter (was £10 per month, but she goes outside now)
£8 towards cost of cat sitter for annual holiday

For the first three months the biggest monthly expense was Feliway (£16 per month). When she first came to live with us she was quite anxious, and unless the Feliway diffuser was on, she would vomit whenever I went to work and whenever a cat came into the garden. Thankfully she is now settled and confident.

Want2beme · 06/04/2018 21:11

Basics cost around -
€11 pet insurance pm for 1 cat. Other cat is in door and too old for insurance now.
€70 food & treats pm
€6 litter pm
€12 flea/worming/tic treatment per 6 wks

Allergictoironing · 06/04/2018 23:17

2 indoor cats, look medium sized but weigh in quite large.

Very hard to tell as I buy in bulk from Zooplus (food) and Pets at home (wood pellet litter). I reckon a big bag of litter lasts about 2 months (scooped 1-3 times a day, fully changed weekly), but I buy it on offer 3 bags at a time. 1.5 pouches Felix AGAIL per day between them, at around £11 for a box of 44. Biiig (12 kg) bag of Royal Canin is around £42, lasts probably around 3 months.

£30pm for insurance, £70ish each per year for their MoT, jabs & annual worming/flea spot on.

Zylkene capsules occasionally for stressful times e.g. a few days either side of the MoT, firework night etc.

Small fortune in Dreamies & Lik e Lix.

More than worth every penny in cuddles from Boycat (3 times a day) and to just watch the beautiful gracefulness of Girlcat sauntering around the house.

EachandEveryone · 07/04/2018 00:54

2 cats
£48 insurance
£23 health plan which includes vaccines/flea/worming
£17 bag of good quality dry
£25 mixture of good quality and Felix half a pouch each twice a day
£4 dreamies etc
£4.50 Sainsbury’s Odour control litter which I love

So, they cost enough but I stopped smoking for them it’s been over a year now to
Me that’s worth every penny

madsiemoomoo · 07/04/2018 08:34

We have to feed our cats purrform raw food (they have seriously sensitive stomachs and get quite ill otherwise), which costs us around £55 a month (for two cats though)

Pet insurance £23

Pet club £20

Shock but they are my babies and make me laugh every day so I don't mind spending it

TheSecondOfHerName · 07/04/2018 19:43

Update: after reading this thread I looked again at our expenditure and realised that we can afford to spend more on her food. She already has a high-quality dry food, and I plan to upgrade her wet food to a better quality one with higher meat content. This will cost nearly £20 per month, but I think she's worth it.

Sunshine49 · 08/04/2018 17:08

I reckon about £100 for two cats - and they’re not currently insured either! Blush

Oko cat’s best litter £24
Food £60 (!)
Toys, treats etc £16

I really need to cut down on food costs as money is tight at the moment. I may switch from James Wellbeloved to Butchers Classic, as apparently the latter is good quality but also much cheaper!

Bubbles121 · 08/04/2018 17:16

2 x cats
£90 insurance for both (both over ten and have had issues recently so actually they've paid out more than it is annually already this year - but the insurance spikes massively once they hit a certain age)
Eat hills science diet do about £20-£30 a month dry food and £20 a month wet food
Cat litter is around £50 a month as we have multiple trays
Budget £40 a month vet bills for annual vaccinations, flea / worming treatment and vet excess. Also as they age they need teeth cleaned etc but usually just the once - these things aren't usually covered by insurance
Just a bit over £200 now that it's all laid out like that! It creeps up though with age.

HeadingForSunshine · 08/04/2018 17:19

Ten year old boy. Pet Plan and picky eater.

I surance 49
Food Hills Science Dry and the most expensive tins 25?
Fleadrops and worming c £10
Cat feeding lady when we are away £30 averaged

We won't talk about the cables he's chewed, the chair he's wrecked or the cst flap fitted into a sheer glazed door (£400+) excluding microchip flap.

The two inches of tail amputated
The poisoning when we thought we'd lost him
The stomach flush when he ate lilies

Oh no this boy isn't loved one little bit!

thethoughtfox · 08/04/2018 17:22

£24 insurance
£12 bag of Royal Canin
£16/ 20 cooked chicken
£10 litter

Copper1122 · 08/04/2018 17:32

wow, you all spend so much.
just to lower the average somewhat.
2 big bog standard cats
approx £ 30 on food . . . whatever is on special offer . . . . . that's it.
(sometimes will buy some flea treatment too - maybe £50 a year)

RolyPolyLilBatFaceGirl · 08/04/2018 21:38

12 quid a month on insurance

12 quid a month on a vet plan that gives us all worming and flea treatment and injections

10 quid food ... I buy good quality dried food and feed that with just the odd pouch every now and again

adaline · 09/04/2018 13:26

I have two.

Insurance - £13 a month.
Food - about £15 for biscuits, plus the occasional tin of tuna/bit of chicken from our food shop.
Cat litter is free (we use wood chip that we get from DP's work)
Maybe the odd £10 on toys/treats when we go to get their food.

They also have a £60 scratching post they've had for just over a year which probably needs replacing sometime this year.
