I noticed recently that she seemed a bit lighter. She had her booster today and she's lost 400g in a year.
She's not underweight (last year she was deemed overweight) she is now ideal weight. Howevwer she is probably eating a bit more than she used to.

So i immediately think thyroid. But vet said her coat was too shiny/ good and she didn't seem to show any other signs like seeking out warm places or being always on the go.

I have to take her back in 4 weeks and if she has lost more weight the investigations/blood tests etc will start.

We got her in 2010 and Cats' Protection guessed she was 3 or 4 then so I guess she's in the right age bracket to have some issues. Doesn't make it any easier though, I have a feeling it won't be good.

I've got an unopened pack of greenies pill pouches you can have. They are treats you pop the pill inside. If you PM me your address, I'll send them. I won't use them.

I'll also pop Fatty in the parcel to teach him how to take tablets. I use a pill giver for her and she's as good as gold.

She's in three tablets in the morning and two in the evening.

One of mine was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism about four years ago. We tried all the meds available but none really worked until we tried a transdermal gel, which you rub on the inside of their ear. It’s a doddle (although she was always fine about taking tablets).

She also had a thyroidectomy last year but it didn’t work - the vet thought she probably had thyroid tissue in other pets of her body that would be impossible to remove. All the above was covered by her insurance.

She’s thin, but healthy and will be 16 in August.

My other one has had chronic kidney disease for about eight years (same age) and is doing fine on the meds. Though she was diagnosed with lymphoma last week so probably won’t be with us for more than a year Sad.

Flowers Suburban. Did you know something was up?

What are the meds for the kidney disease?

I knew something was up because she lost so much weight. She had previously been a bit chubby and I thought the vet would be pleased Sad.

My other cat has Fortekor 2.5 (one tab a day) for the kidney disease. She also has hip dysplasia so has Seraquin for her joints and Metacam for pain relief. I get all these online as she’s not insured any more. I pay £10 for a prescription and the meds are all about a third of the vet price.

Until she was diagnosed with lymphoma this was much cheaper than having her insured.
