My poor little girl has been fighting. Opened the back door at 6ish to give her a shout and immediately heard her screaming in next doors garden. Shouted and shone the torch from my phone. Thought it was her eyes I could see in their garden but next thing I know she's scrabbling up the fence and manages to get to the back door.
She was soaked in blood but it was mixed with urine so I think looked more than was actually there.
I've separated her from the other animals. She was hyperventilating but calmed down when I put out food, water and a tray. I also put down her cat carrier. She's eaten (straight away was going to put it in the carrier to catch her) drunk some water, washed herself and slept for about 20 mins. All good I thought. Since she's woken up though, she is still screaming quietly and growling. She's hobbling a lot, can't seem to get comfortable.
She has sub luxating patellas and the blood seemed to be coming from one of her back legs (stopped almost instantly, now she's washed she doesn't look any different) She also keeps doing strange deep breaths occasionally.
Is any of this familiar to anyone? Do cats do this after a fight? Is it just a stress reaction and pain from the bite?
I'm more than willing to rush her to the vets but my instincts are telling me it's not necessary yet. I'm just terrified I'm missing something and she won't wake up Sad

Poor girl Sad

I think I'd ring the vets, cats are remarkably good at hiding quite how injured or in pain they are.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/01/2018 20:14

I don’t definitely contact the vet. Poor girl, I hope she’s ok

Want2beme · 27/01/2018 20:15

That sounds horrific. Was she was fighting with cats? Where's the blood coming from? She may have damaged her knee cap and is in pain? If anything, she'll probably need antibiotics for her injuries. If she doesn't calm down soon, I'd give the vet a call to see what they think. Hope she's OK, poor thing.

Rudeolf · 27/01/2018 20:16

Have next door got a dog?

I hope shes o.k Sad

whenohwhen · 27/01/2018 20:17

I don't know how to get her in her carrier. I'm here on my own and she's asleep in her bed. Going to watch and wait until the next time she wakes up. Praying she'll have calmed down.
If I have to get her to the vets tonight I just don't know how to catch her Sad

It was definitely either another cat or possibly a fox. I saw it's eyes shining back at me in the torch light. I thought it was her so it was most likely a cat. We don't really get foxes round here.

Upend the carrier, pick her up under her shoulders from behind her and put her in back feet first. Lock carrier and slowly put it right way round.

TheSpottedZebra · 27/01/2018 20:20

Can you put the whole bed in the carrier?
I'd def get her to a vets asap.

whenohwhen · 27/01/2018 20:24

I've just woken her up and she purred quietly, no blood that I can see. She growled again when I stroked her.

SOS help please?

Rudeolf · 27/01/2018 20:29

The positives are shes gone to her bed - normal for her.

Shes slept. Shes had a drink. Shes eaten.

Maybe she growled because she wants to be left alone.

Its a tricky one.

NorthernLurker · 27/01/2018 20:32

If she's got a wound she's at risk of infection I would take her to the vet tbh.

whenohwhen · 27/01/2018 20:35

I've spoken to the nicest vet who advised to leave her alone tonight. Just keep an eye on her and call if she's really struggling but it sounds like stress. They can see her tomorrow for antibiotics if she's not improving. They said that it's common for them to heavy breath and growl after a fight and she probably is in pain and cross. She said that she's eaten and drunk is good and to stop trying to stroke her if it's making her growl Blush
Feel a bit better, need to try and leave her alone.

whenohwhen · 27/01/2018 20:37

She also said it would likely traumatise her more to try and wrestle her to them tonight.

Thus happened to our cat, we took her to the night vet and she had a bite wound on her leg. I hope your lovely cat is ok and stops growling at you.Smile

lorisparkle · 27/01/2018 21:03

Just to say our cat started growling and hissing when we stroked him and we thought he was just grumpy. It persisted and I thought it was behavioural but when I investigated online they recommended a once over at the vets. Turns out the poor thing had injured his back. So what I am trying to say is a once over by the vet would definitely be worth it if she continues to be unhappy.

whenohwhen · 27/01/2018 21:08

Thank you everyone. She's asleep. I just want to wake her up and see if she's walking any better but am resisting. Just going to take the vets advice if I can.
Will definitely take her tomorrow if she's still unhappy though. Still can't shake the idea that there is something awful wrong with her but it seems that's unlikely. Fingers firmly crossed.

If she has a puncture wound she must see a vet.

BulletFox · 27/01/2018 21:34

whenohwhen my little cat got quite viciously attacked in the garden (luckily I heard cat screaming so ran down and chased the intruder away) and was unwell and shaken but there wasn't much I could do that evening as she had crawled into the well of a large desk and it would have created a lot of trauma if I'd tried to drag her out for the vets. Luckily she was ok.

There was another poster here whose cat had a scrap wound which got infected.

Hopefully your little cat will be ok tomorrow and wish her a speedy recovery :)

Want2beme · 27/01/2018 22:55

Aww, she's lovely. Hope you both get some rest tonight and tomorrow brings better things. They bring such stress in to our lives Wink

Rudeolf · 28/01/2018 09:03

How is she doing OP Flowers

Pets at home vets are usually open on a Sunday if you wanted non-emergency.

whenohwhen · 28/01/2018 09:49

Thank you. She's still limping. She's eaten lots of tuna and drinking. She was crying to be let out of the room she was shut in so I let her out whilst all the other animals were outside but she just slunk about growling so I've shut her away again. She's bright eyed but obviously very sore.
Our own vets will see her today if necessary. It's just so hard to decide to put her through that trauma if she just needs to rest and lick her wounds.
I slept on the sofa until 4am with her but she didn't make a peep all night.
Also really worried about letting her near the other cat. They have a fiesty relationship anyway and I'm pretty sure this will make them fight.

OP posts:
Rudeolf · 28/01/2018 09:52

Do you have any feliway plug ins to chill her & the other cat out, to minimise fighting/stress.

I got a cheaper version on Amazon.

whenohwhen · 28/01/2018 09:58

It's emptySad
I think I'm going to go to pets at home and get one. I might try the other one that's been recommended on here before.

OP posts:
retirednow · 28/01/2018 11:53

If she is limping she may have a wound and if it's sore she needs painkillers, please take her to the vet.

MysteryLovesCompany · 28/01/2018 12:01

I don't understand why you are not taking her to the vet. I am fairly pragmatic about those things but a puncture wound needs looking at, and she's showing pain. She needs painkillers and antibiotics.
