My poor little girl has been fighting. Opened the back door at 6ish to give her a shout and immediately heard her screaming in next doors garden. Shouted and shone the torch from my phone. Thought it was her eyes I could see in their garden but next thing I know she's scrabbling up the fence and manages to get to the back door.
She was soaked in blood but it was mixed with urine so I think looked more than was actually there.
I've separated her from the other animals. She was hyperventilating but calmed down when I put out food, water and a tray. I also put down her cat carrier. She's eaten (straight away was going to put it in the carrier to catch her) drunk some water, washed herself and slept for about 20 mins. All good I thought. Since she's woken up though, she is still screaming quietly and growling. She's hobbling a lot, can't seem to get comfortable.
She has sub luxating patellas and the blood seemed to be coming from one of her back legs (stopped almost instantly, now she's washed she doesn't look any different) She also keeps doing strange deep breaths occasionally.
Is any of this familiar to anyone? Do cats do this after a fight? Is it just a stress reaction and pain from the bite?
I'm more than willing to rush her to the vets but my instincts are telling me it's not necessary yet. I'm just terrified I'm missing something and she won't wake up Sad

The vets have advised that she's likely bruised and scratched but that it will further traumatise her by taking her in (they know the cat). And they won't issue antibiotics if there is no infection.
We're watching and waiting today but I'll take her straight there if she worsens. She's actually picked up a lot through the morning and is in her favourite chair.

Btw, I have called the vet and asked them. Just trying to follow their advice atm. She'll go in this afternoon if necessary, at the moment she's purring.

The vet hasn't seen her and she had blood when it happened, do they do house calls.

retirednow · 28/01/2018 12:09

Cats do purr when they are in pain, it comforts them. Hope she feels better soon.

MysteryLovesCompany · 28/01/2018 12:19

Purring is irrelevant, it doesn't mean a cat is ok.

whenohwhen · 28/01/2018 12:21

They do housecalls, that's what they'd have had to do last night I think. There's no way I'd have caught her on my own.
I've got an offer to help get her in the carrier today if needs be. Just trying to do the right thing by her.
We are experienced pet owners and have seen many fights before. Never this cat though and never a reaction like that. Usually they hide. It was the noise coming from her that was awful but she's a very vocal little thing anyway (growls at the doorbell).
As I mentioned in my op she has luxating patellas (amongst other health conditions) which, combined with her terrible start in life mean that she's spent a lot of time at the vets. She's fine once she's there but getting her there is a different story. Anyone with a stressed cat will understand. Sometimes it takes her weeks to recover from a visit.
She's letting me look at her legs now, just need to see how she's moving around next time she gets up.

Took her to the vet as she didn't want to get up still. Put my ski gloves on to get her into the carrier but she was actually ok.

They've sent her home to watch and wait again.
They don't think she has any fractures or breaks. No dislocation or wounds they can see.
Probably just cuts and bruises from the fight and severe stress reaction.
She's got some metacam and had an antibiotic injection.

She's peed all over herself again SadDon't know if I did the right thing taking her or not but it's done now. She's terrified again.

The drugs will help though. Zylkene works on mine when he's stressed.

Rudeolf · 28/01/2018 17:03

I think you did the right thing. You wouldnt have forgiven ypurself if she got really ill tonight.

whenohwhen · 28/01/2018 18:00

She's eating again and weight bearing on both sides. Still slow and wobbly.
Going to have to wash her if she doesn't do it herself soon. She stinks of pee!
Will have to get the ski gloves back on Shock

Give her fur the once over with a baby wipe, or warm flannel, she'll smell lovely.
