How to stop cat being clingy?

BulletFox · 01/01/2018 12:42

We moved in December, I'm indulging her with food at present as I know it's difficult for her.

She doesn't like toys.

She is so clingy though it's unreal, I don't get a moment's peace. I've currently put her in the sitting room and I can hear scrabbling little paws (she's been well fed, I just want a few moments of quiet)

Good luck with that, I have been "wearing" my cat when I am at home for 16 years and she shows no sign of being any less clingy.
She loves you.

Ollivander would be mortified if Ollie stopped being clingy! :)

AnnaMagnani · 01/01/2018 12:50

If you find out, let me know!

Merp seems to think kitten wearing is a thing like baby wearing Hmm

Other than that, Feliway. Drown the house in Feliway.

LittleCandle · 01/01/2018 12:55

I have a bit of this problem right now. CandleCat2 is very needy since CandleCat1 was put down 6 weeks ago out of the blue. Today, he is actually slightly better, in that he has been out for more than 2 minutes, but I am putting that down to his new drugs working on his aches and pains. But the moment he is in, like now, he is mewing piteously at me. He just wants love because he misses his brother, but I am rather tired of being a pin cushion as he kneads my chest and licks my nose.

I have no tips to give, apart from Feliway. I have been advised by my vet that this is good grieving behaviour for CandleCat2, so I am just letting him get on with it.

BulletFox · 01/01/2018 12:58

Sorry, Candle.

She was nibbling at my hair this morning whilst I was in bed.

I'll have to relent and let her out of the sitting room shortly or else she'll destroy the door

Does you cat go outside at all?
The times my cat bothers me too much is if he's hungry or not had enough outdoor time.

BulletFox · 01/01/2018 13:06

Vitalogy no, since the move she is indoors. It's the first time in her life she's been an indoors cat. I've tried to let her out to the courtyard for a runaround but she just scampers to the neighbours and rejects the courtyard

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/01/2018 13:21

Try her on zylkene. In times of change though your her safe place.

Vitalogy · 01/01/2018 13:25

Oh ok. Probably seeking out the greenery. Is it not safe for her to wander off. My cat likes to eat the grass now and again. Is making a mini grass/greenery area in the court yard an option.
I know if my cat couldn't go outdoors he'd be bouncing off the walls.
We're moving soon, I'm concerned for the outdoor space that will be available for him too.

BulletFox · 01/01/2018 13:29

Noooo, the moment I try to let her have a runaround she scrabbles back to get into our flat.

I gave up earlier and let her out of the sitting room and she's currently snortling/snuffling next to me on my bed

Grin They don't know what's good for them sometimes, Cats!
Ollivander84 · 01/01/2018 13:40

Grin strange that I'm known for having the worlds most clingy cat. Can't help you OP but I can empathise!

Toddlerteaplease · 01/01/2018 16:48

I also thought it would be Olivander posting as well. But i suspect she wouldn't have it any other way! Gorgeous Olly, I'm so jealous of her!

BulletFox · 01/01/2018 17:24

I think Ollie has a rival for clingiest cat of the year! :)

We should marry the pair of them off and send them off to sea with some honey, and plenty of money, wrapped up in a five pound note (and an owl)

Maybe a baby sling would at least let you go hands free and get a few things done? Grin

EachandEveryone · 01/01/2018 18:11

Does she not like the laser? I must admit when mine gets too much its dreamie time and a locked kitchen door. I do have her running up and down the stairs with the laser first. She sounds like she needs a little friend is that possible?

ToadOfSadness · 02/01/2018 00:35

I had a velcro cat. From the time she moved in she would be on my lap as soon as I sat down, in front of me on the stairs and underfoot when I was trying to do things. Slept on top of me, or against me. I would put her off my lap to stand up and before I had moved she was back on me.

If I sat on the garden lounger she would be on the end of it. In the kitchen she would sit where I was trying to walk. I gave up eventually and for the last year of her life I carried her about on one arm, she was small and frail, or over one shoulder, let her sit on me as long as possible and enjoyed the little paw patting my shoulder for more love and kisses. I knew that one day it would stop and that I would miss it. I do, I miss it terribly. I loved my little velcro cat so much. I envy people with velcro cats.

diamantegal · 02/01/2018 00:41

I miss my clingy cats - both died in the last year. Slept on my pillow, on your knee as soon as you sat down etc.

We now have new kittens and they're pretty good affection-wise (especially with DS for some reason). But not a patch on their predecessors.

So no advice, other than enjoy it while it lasts!

Ofthread · 04/01/2018 12:20

My cat sits next to the bath when I'm in it, occasionally popping up over the edge to see if the lap is still unavailable.

Weedsnseeds1 · 04/01/2018 12:41

Mine does that too ofthread .
He escorts me everywhere, in body guard fashion and I think he's just worried about me drowning!

nottoosurewhattoput · 04/01/2018 16:36

I know the feeling BulletFox. My beautiful cat is extremely clingy and needy, he never leaves us alone. Always jumping on me when i'm sitting down or in bed snuggling his head under my face, follows me round the house all day, to the toilet, watches me in the shower and sleeps on me. My friend got a cat at the same time though and her cat is extremely timid, doesn't like cuddles and just attacks her so I feel we have got it good with a lovely cat, who clearly loves us!

Aridane · 04/01/2018 16:44

How do you get a Velcro cuddly cat?
