Had enough of this lazy bloody cat!

My sister asked me to have her cats for a mo th while she regimes them due to housing issues.... this was 2 years ago and I still have them.

I have had my own cats for years and have no issues at all with them toileting wise, but one of sisters cats is the laziest bloody pansy I have ever met. It at the point where I am going to re home him soon.

Unless the sun is shining outside and the ground is dry, he hates going outside! No problems outside, we have a decent sized garden surrounded by field and the canal, the other cats don’t have any issues. He just doesn’t want to get his paws wet.

We have a cat flap so they can come and go as they please, but no. This lazy git will walk past the cat flap and into the utility room and bathroom just to pee on everything!!! He has not taken to peeing on the landing as he can’t be asked to come downstairs.

Oh and it’s not just pee, there is the occasional colossal turd thrown in as well!!

I refuse to have a litter tray as then the other 2 will start using it and become just as lazy as him! Plus I am 30wks pregnant and shouldn’t be dealing with cat mess, but even if I could I can hardly I get down there to do so!

What can I do?! I have locked them all outside today as I stood in pee at 5am this morning! Angry

Do you live alone?
Does your sister live far from you?
Does she still have housing issues?
Is this a new issue?

It sounds like you do need to remove those cats from your house. Cats must be under stress to pee or poo in the home.

Ct17218 · 11/12/2017 08:18

I live with my partner but he is in very long hours so home alone most of the time.

My sister lives 2 hours away in a bedsit, so cant take them back.

Not really a new thing but definitely getting worse, but there is no new stresses in the house. It’s definitely related to him bring a wimp! If we have good weather he is out and there is no problem!

She told me ages ago to just give them to the cat protection, but I couldn’t as I can afford to have here but this behaviour isn’t ok with a baby on the way.

Is “get off” spray still a thing? Does it even work?

Well personally part of cat ownership is having a litter tray indoors regardless of whether or not you don't like to clean it out. As you mention you are pregnant I assume that you have a partner who could clean the tray?

It is not a cat being lazy it is all about preferences, yes your other cats might prefer to go to the toilet outside but this one would prefer to use a tray.

Please be a responsible owner and get a tray!

cherrycola2004 · 11/12/2017 08:20

Yeah you need a tray.

CandleLit · 11/12/2017 08:21

I would close the cat flap and put them outside in the morning and let them back in the evening. Cat flaps are a luxury, not a necessity.

Ct17218 · 11/12/2017 08:26

I am a responsible owner and could have followed my sister requests, but felt that was irresponsible.

As I said my partner does long hours I’m home alone most of the time. A litter tray with 3 cats using it was need cleaning throughout the day which I can’t do, so the cats will continue to fine places in the house.

I am looking smell suggestions to deter the urination indoors as he has a cat flap he can use but like I said walks past it to pee in the bathroom

Yes you need a litter tray.

The cat is soiling as he is stressed about something. Might be the other cats as sometimes they need to the on,y cat in the home.

Where in the country are you? Maybe one of us lives nearby and can suggest other rescues beyond Cats Protection.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 11/12/2017 08:28

I have a litter tray....only one cat uses it...the other one prefers to go outdoors.

Honestly the stress is something you don't need. If you can find a rescue to take the cats it would be better for you.

NoSquirrels · 11/12/2017 08:36

If he walks past the cat flap to pee in the bathroom, a cat verse tray in the bathroom would solve many of your issues. One of mine won’t toilet outside- her habits have no bearing on the other cat, who prefers outdoors.

You probably are better off rehoming as that cat sounds unhappy and you sound unwilling to be flexible to its needs, and with a newborn your household won’t get any calmer.

NoSquirrels · 11/12/2017 08:37

cat verse tray = covered litter tray

Lweji · 11/12/2017 08:38

I wouldn't say you're responsible if you call the cat lazy because he's stressed about getting wet.
It sounds like you don't understand cats and certainly shouldn't be having this cat.
Either get the litter tray or get him a new owner who doesn't think he's lazy.

Piewraith · 11/12/2017 08:39

Surely cleaning a tray is easier than cleaning the floor though.

NoSquirrels · 11/12/2017 08:42

I am a responsible owner and could have followed my sister requests, but felt that was irresponsible.

Sometimes responding to the animal’s needs means rehoming, even if that seems “wrong”. You aren’t responding to his needs & trying to force his behaviour. He’s showing signs of stress. If you can’t change what you can do at home, then better that he lives elsewhere in a more suitable environment.

loopsdefruit · 11/12/2017 08:46

can you just pick up the cat and put him outside in the morning while you eat breakfast, then let him in, then same again in the evening? He'll get used to it.

Wolfiefan · 11/12/2017 08:48

The cat isn't the lazy one.
It needs a tray. Refusing to provide one is unkind.
Cats don't just refuse to go out because they are lazy. They may be scared of another cat in the area. They may find it too cold or not feel safe enough to toilet in the open.
Poor bloody cat.

loopsdefruit · 11/12/2017 08:52

Note, the above is what my mum does because she's a pain and doesn't look after our cat especially well all the time. We have a tray in winter when it's really cold and wet. I believe the advice is one tray per cat plus one extra placed in various locations around the house. That's what is suggested by cats protection.

Lweji · 11/12/2017 08:55

Yes. I have one cat and two trays. He likes to pee in one and poo in the other. Smile

Costacoffeeplease · 11/12/2017 08:57

You sound a delight

Get a litter tray, a scoop, and some disposable gloves

chemenger · 11/12/2017 08:58

He needs a tray or to be rehomed. If you won’t look after him then he deserves a chance to find an owner who will. Contact Cat Protection, they may be able to advertise him as a Home to Home adoption, very little effort for you, they will do a home visit to vet the new owner, making sure they will provide the basic care a cat needs, like a litter tray.

Marcine · 11/12/2017 09:03

My cat won't go outside if its wet, cold or there are other cats around, or at night. She might be a wimp but she's my responsibility.

Honestly if you CBA with this cat then the responsible thing to do is rehome.

FluffyWuffy100 · 11/12/2017 09:30

Get a litter tray. Or 2 or 3 and put them in the utility room.

Part of having a cat really should be having a litter tray as well. It is unlikely your other cats will use the litter tray if they are happy going outside anyway.

FluffyWuffy100 · 11/12/2017 09:32

Surely cleaning a tray is easier than cleaning the floor though.

This sprung to my mind too!

Good quality clumping litter, a scoop and compostable dog poo bags = easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Rather do that than clean piss off the floor!

NC4now · 11/12/2017 09:34

I’d rather clean a tray than everything in the utility room.
Litter trays are part of having a cat.

RandomMess · 11/12/2017 09:37

The cat is stressed due to being in a multi cat home and because you are pregnant- yes cats do know that. MILs evil princess was all over me when I was pregnant ignored the rest of it (thankfully).

You need to rehome it.

Want2beme · 11/12/2017 10:36

You can't reason with a cat, and it'll do what it feels like doing. I don't want litter trays inside, but it comes with the territory with some cats and there's probably not much you can do to change that.
