Cat litter - how often do you change it and has anyone found something to rival Catsan?

Just wondering how often you change your cat trays - we have 2 cats. And has anyone found anything as good as or close to Catsan but cheaper - we have got through a 20 litre bag in 4 days which is going to work out as over £20 a week on cat litter.

Also has anyone used a dyson handheld to vacuum up the bits that go out of tray or will that break it?

Thanks.

I use the one from Lidl and find it the best of many that I've tried. It's non dusty so you don't get cloud up in the air when cat uses/you clean the tray.

That being said my lady will go outside about 90% of the time and only uses the tray if she really needs too.

I use the wood pellets - mine like them better than the clumping stuff. I pick out the waste using cheap nappy sacks as a glove then knotting & binning. The cats mostly go in the garden, but occasionally use the tray if in overnight.

I find that suddenly the pellets crumble & start to smell, then I change the lot & dump the old stuff in the compost. Takes weeks & weeks between changes.

One housecat. Everything poo/ pee scooped out daily. Fully changed and tray disinfected weekly.

DementedP Thanks, I'll look into that when I next order. I do usually price check and I seem to keep hitting a window when Pets At Home have it on offer - my luck can't last for ever!

I use Pettex Clean Paws. It is clumping litter and we use a very large, deep covered litter tray. It's a brilliant design with a built in sieve. It gets changed once a week for one cat (who also goes outside - she has a cat flap).

Each bag is £12, and we go through about 1/2 a bag per month since you only get rid of the 'clumped' bits.
