I have a very silly, curious cat who likes to explore (he has been neutered). He also follows me on the school run and to the local convenience store, where I work. He then started coming in through the automatic doors while I was on shift and also waiting outside until I finished work where friendly customers would stroke him and fuss him. I adopted him and he was a stray so I think in the past he has had to rely on the kindness of strangers.
I've always shooed him out and when possible, taken him home (I only live 2 mins away) so I can go back on my shift. But he's now started going in the shop several times a day when I'm not there, sometimes staying there for several hours. He doesnt steal food but it's still a problem. I've explained to my colleagues that they shouldn't give him attention (some of them pick him up and cuddle him) as it's making it more likely he will return but ultimately he's my responsibility and I hate that he is being a nuisance. My boss is understanding but it is beginning to wear thin and they don't want any customers or inspectors to give them any grief-I can totally see their perspective and need to stop this somehow. I've also heard rumours among the neighbours that he sometimes goes in their houses. I'd be really annoyed if I were them, but no one has said anything directly to me. Not long after I adopted him, he was knocked down by a car and had to have surgery. After that I kept him inside for a couple of months but he really wasn't happy so I'm reluctant to keep him inside. I'm going to have to though, aren't I?
For his own safety and so he doesn't bother the neighbours.
