Does this cat belong to somebody?

We have plenty of cats walking around our garden and fences. But the one I saw this morning is new.

And she is the friendliest little thing! Which makes me think she belongs to somebody? She's happy to be stroked. Seems well fed. She was keen to get into the house, and kept coming to me for a stroke.

Since I haven't seen her before I think she might be lost. Or she may just be new to the neighbourhood. How can I tell??

I'm really taken by her, she's lovely. I'll be scanning the posters around my streets to see if anybody is looking for her.

Would she have a collar if she had an owner? Apologies, I'm very ignorant when it comes to cats... Smile

Have you posted anything on a local Facebook group or such? You may well have people on there who know her.

shushpenfold · 03/10/2017 08:35

Collar - not necessarily. Neither of mine don't as cats can get into trouble with them (get caught on trees etc)

HemanOrSheRa · 03/10/2017 08:39

Definitely try local FB pages - there may be one specifically for lost and found pets. You could put a paper collar on her with your details and a few words about your concerns. She is a gorgeous girl Smile.

LittleBirdBlues · 03/10/2017 08:42

She really is gorgeous isn't she? I don't normally go all soft when seeing cats, but this one has really conquered my heart in a second! Very charming girl.

I'm on my way to work, dh is now keeping her company in the garden. I will definitely post on local FB pages and the like! Thanks for the advice.

Hehe! That's how cats operate.....before you know it you'll have them draped all over the house Grin.

Maudlinmaud · 03/10/2017 08:50

My cats don't wear collar's but are chipped. I had a man in doing some diy a few weeks back and he said to one of my cats "so this is where you live" cat had been getting fed at his too for yonks and sometimes made his way inside for cuddles. He didn't live far away but we're not exactly neighbours.
So unless it shows signs of distress I wouldn't do much.

piperatthegates · 03/10/2017 08:52

What a gorgeous cat! If you don't have any luck with facebook or local posters etc. you could take her to a vet who will check for a microchip. My cat doesn't have a collar but she is chipped.

Hope this helps.

LittleBirdBlues · 03/10/2017 08:56

Thanks very much!

Dh used to have visiting cat before we moved in together. He never fed her but She would bring him dead mice and fish every now again, and she would hang out with him for days and sometimes even sleep at his house. She lived next door and the owners didn't mind.

I wouldn't mind this kind of arrangement with this morning's visitor! Grin

I wont be feeding her though! She doesn't seem hungry...

She does look well cared for, so perhaps see if she stays looking as good and if you see any deterioration or she just doesn't go away, pop her to the vets to check for a chip.

Black cats in rescues can be really hard to home so maybe she's a sign that you could indeed be a cat lover and give a home to one in need...

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 03/10/2017 09:00

Ours don't have collars as one of them ended up with hers around her stomach (before we got them). They are microchipped and are definitely not scrawny. If you are concerned then either a paper collar or a vet will scan them to look for microchips for free. Cats don't have to be microchipped but often are when they are spayed and neutered so responsible cat owners probably will have them chipped.

Longdistance · 03/10/2017 09:11

Aww, she looks a beauty. She must have an owner with that shiny coat. As for the collar, my car used to lose his all the time, so I stopped putting one on him.

dailydance · 03/10/2017 09:29

Put a paper collar on her, secured with sellotape asking the owner to call you. If she keeps coming back with (a few days?) with the collar intact then imo nobody owns her/she’s lost.

DragonLips · 03/10/2017 18:15

She doesn't look uncared for. Are you sure it's a stray?

DragonLips · 03/10/2017 18:16

My cat is always losing collars. Would hate somebody assume she was a stray and take her during occasions she is collarless

thegirlupnorth · 03/10/2017 18:27

The only way to check is take her to vets and see if she has a chip. My cats never wore a collar as one of them once got caught in a tree and it ripped his ear off!

LittleBirdBlues · 03/10/2017 19:32

dragon I doubt she's a stray, she looks too well looked after. I thought that maybe she was a young cat, new to the neighbourhood and lost. Im not feeding her or doing anything to lure her away from her home! Don't worry. Wink

I would never just take her in unless I was concerned for her wellbeing, which I'm not. I'll be keeping an eye out for her to see if she deteriorates or starts looking hungry etc. And I'm scanning the local FB page. No relevant pictures there so far!

daily that's a good idea! How would I go about putting a paper collar on her without her losing it within a couple of minutes though? Sorry, I'm really not very crafty... Could you state the obvious? Cellotape?

Yep-sellotape.. don’t staple! If the weather is dry it should stay on for one night I would expect. Put a paper collar on her a few times / a few nights. The owner will soon get annoyed and call you...or you have a new cat.

LittleBirdBlues · 03/10/2017 21:58

daily thanks! All this is making me realise that kind of want a cat.... Sigh. We go abroad a lot though Sad
