Is £125 expensive for a non-pedigree kitten?

Just curious really, I've only had one pedigree cat and she was fairly expensive but all the others were never for bought for more than £50.

I'm sort of looking for a kitten I need to persuade dh! and whilst £125 seems reasonable for a part-bred it seems rather pricey for a moggie.

I've not bought a cat for a fair while so might just be out of the loop somewhat! Any thoughts?

Fgs don't buy a kitten from one of those websites, they're dodgy as fuck. Wait for kitten season and get one from a rescue. That way you're not supporting backyard breeders and you can be sure the kitten has been properly looked after, had all their jabs etc.

I have been checking preloved.co.uk while I was looking to buy a kitten (though later I decided not to buy). As you said I have not come across a non-pedigree kitten for £125. Are you particular about non-pedigree kitten for some reason? If not you could go for a Pedigree kitten for the same price.

Please get one from a rescue instead, there are 170 cats and kittens in our local rescue all needing homes.

They charge about £70 but this includes all vaccinations, neutering and a vet check.

I just got a new cat from local rescue, it cost £100 donation.

I'm not bothered about a pedigree or not, just that it seemed expensive for an in-pedigree.

Rescues aren't likely to happen as because we've got a dog and 2 children they're not very keen for us to have one at all.

We got rescue kittens with two children. How old are yours? We have since added a dog! I wouldn't buy a moggy. Any responsible owner would have their girls spayed.

well, please try the rescue, as a kitten will settle with a dog, if the dog is cat friendly. They might be persuaded.

They're crying out at the rescue centres. They do usually make a charge, they did with our cat anyway, but this all goes to the charity, so it's all good.

Dog is fine with cats, dd also fine, small boy, less so, will likely wait until he's about 2 and can understand animals better.

Don't buy a kitten from some idiot who would rather make money from breeding their moggy than protect their welfare and get them neutered.

I promise, when it comes to it, I'll be getting a cat/kitten from a rescue. I will have to wait as small boy is a bit too young for a kitten.

I follow a rescue on fb but every single cat they put up is unsuitable for homes with children or dogs. It makes me wonder how they ever rehome any!

Don't rely on one rescue. And don't rely on what's on FB or website. They often don't advertise kittens. It dissuades idiots who would take on a kitten as its cute and not a 20 year commitment that could cost a lot over those years.
We got a kitten a couple of years ago. Youngest was reception. They were scratchy little buggers and bitey too. Both kids were well "tortied"
But we love them. And they keep the dog in her place. Yep. Tiny torties vs wolfhound? Wolfhound lose!

Kittens may not be put on the website as they tend to find homes more easily than older cats, but that doesn't mean they don't have any to rehome. It's probably best to call or visit the rescue centres.

Rescues will let you adopt with dogs and children. It depends on the cat rather than black and white rules.
Adoption fee at CP I'm at is £75, that includes vaccinations, neutering, worming, fleaing etc. I doubt one online will have even seen a vet. Yes there are kittens around in rescues so worth calling them.

The most I've spent is £50 and that's because we specifically needed a long haired cat and mine is a Maine coon crossbreed (still technically a moggy but what I needed)

Would never pay more than that for a cat

Rescue however I would because you know the funds are going to a good place

There’s a website called “Cat Chat”. They’ll have links to loads of rescue centres, fosterers and hard to home cats in your area.
