Fleas- Bob Martin Spot On failed, can we apply Frontline plus 2 weeks after?

Just that really, bit of an infestation on our two year and half old cats following failure of the bob martin - would it be ok to apply the frontline plus?

Don't want to overdose them and we think the outbreak is mostly contained following hoovering/washing/indorexing and flea tablets, but dont want them to be unprotected.

Neither of these products will work. I am not 100 % sure but I think they both have the same active ingredient. Fipronil is in frontline It used to be really effective but has stopped working over the past few years.

You need to get something from your vets and should probably treat the house with indorex.

Bob Martin is shit

pandarific · 22/08/2017 21:08

gaaaaah that's so annoying! I got this one because it specifically said it was new and was effective on eggs/larvae and mature fleas. So that's two packages back to two different pet places. Angry

Is there any particular brand that is actually effective? We don't have time to go to the vet and if we can get something that works it will be cheaper online.

Avoid any Bob Martin products!
Stronghold and Advocate work but only available from vets or online with a prescription from your vet. I think with flea treatments you need to pay a little more for something that works.

ProperLavs · 22/08/2017 22:01

I had to bite the bullet and go to the vets for advocate. Nothing I could buy online worked. You will also need indorexwhich is brilliant. The cats are so much more relaxed now they are flea free.

ProperLavs · 22/08/2017 22:02

Sorry, see you already have indorex.

QuestionableMouse · 22/08/2017 22:11

Get stronghold from the vet. It's fantastic.

dementedpixie · 22/08/2017 22:13

I use advocate from the vet

ShaneBitchy · 22/08/2017 22:15

Look on My Itchy Dog. They do natural flea treatments if you don't want to use chemicals again so soon. You can use their products on cats also.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 22/08/2017 22:24

I used to use Advocate and have just switched to Bravecto, both from the vet

pandarific · 23/08/2017 08:47

Thanks all. We're going to give the advantage a go first as googling around most people seem to find it works. If not will go the prescription route next month.

In the meantime, we've got a couple of foggers, just finished the indorex but have replaced with RIP which is meant to be very effective, and have got the flea tablets, so hopefully the little bastards will be gone for good soon.

You need to go the the vet for safe and effective flea treatment. It's part of owning a pet. The alternative is an infested house and itchy cats.
We use advocate.

JigglyTuff · 23/08/2017 08:53

I use Advocate on the cat and Bravecto on the dog. Never had a flea problem

QuestionableMouse · 23/08/2017 11:15

Salt around the edges of your carpets will help. Leave it down as long as you can. It dehydrates the little bastards.

thecatneuterer · 23/08/2017 13:17

Advantage is also ok. It's the only non-prescription treatment that works.

5rivers7hills · 23/08/2017 14:56

2 weeks is the time you have to leave it before you are allowed to redise between brands per my vet - I've had the same problem!

ilovesushi · 25/08/2017 16:33

Rats! Just read this. Have just bought some Bob Martin after complete Frontline fail. Can't get the blooming' pipette to open and the instructions are minuscule so don't know what I am doing wrong. Should I just hold off and get stuff from the vets? My kids have got flea bites and look like Victorian street urchins.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/08/2017 16:43

I wouldn't use it sushi. I've heard so many bad things about Bob Martin that I'm surprised it's still onsale. I'd either use Advantage or get something from the vet.

RonSwansonsMoustache · 25/08/2017 16:44

Bob Martin doesn't work at all!

We use Frontline and have never had a problem but I know lots of people find it doesn't work. Ours are indoor cats, though, so aren't that prone to fleas in the first place which might explain it!

ilovesushi · 25/08/2017 16:51

Thanks for the tip RonSwanson. I also got the Bob Martin 'bomb' which I was going to let off in DS's room as that is where the cats tend to hang out when indoors. I am slightly freaking about that as it says place it on a brick or metal plate! What? I am having a mini panic because I have guests coming over for the weekend and don't want to give them all flea bites! They'll never come back!

ilovesushi · 25/08/2017 16:52

I meant thanks PinkSparkly too. What should I know about BM?

OnlyGodKnowsWhy · 25/08/2017 16:59

Order acclaim from Amazon, amazing stuff. Lasts a year and one can will do a 4 bed house. Treat cats with advantage. It will take a few weeks as eggs will still hatch but the moment the fleas come into contact with acclaim they will die. Vet recommended it to me.

RonSwansonsMoustache · 25/08/2017 17:13

And I second a PP's advice to order off Amazon. I get all our flea/worm treatment from there, it's cheaper than the vet or ZooPlus/Pets at Home and it's the same stuff.

ilovesushi · 25/08/2017 18:01

Acclaim and advantage. I'm on it!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/08/2017 18:28

Theres been cases where BM flea products have caused illness or worse to cats. Sadly there's a lot of cases on different forums. Some of them are old so hopefully things have improved but I won't take a chance.

Weedsnseeds1 · 26/08/2017 23:40

Bravecto here as well as it also does ticks ( an issue in my area) and lasts three months. For the house, Indorex, but I am also a diatomaceous earth evangelist. Only thing that worked on a horrendous infestation a few years back.
