What are you feeding at the moment?

What sort of quality cat food brands are people feeding their cats right now? I recently moved and now longer have the freezer space for Nature's Menu raw, which is my preference. I switched to Thrive but 1) it made Bibi fat(ter) and 2) too expensive to comprise whole diet. Anyone want to share what their overlords are enjoying at the moment? TIA!

I've just switched mine to Orijen from Applaws because I was worried they were getting bored of the same food after 3 years. They LOVE it, (phew, bought a massive bag) but the changeover's been making them a bit loose. Mixing the 2 together doesn't work, because they've decided they hate their old food now, and any stray Applaws biscuits that find their way into their mouths get spat out.

They're just not keen on wet food, but they're good drinkers. I'd love to feed them a raw diet too, but if I offer even a prawn they look at me as if I'm taking the piss.

iloveeverykindofcat · 11/08/2017 13:21

Looks like great food! Sorry though, I should have specified - they have to be on wet because both have had bladder probs in the past. Picky girls eyeroll. How's that darling little M?

RubbishMantra · 11/08/2017 17:35

Little M's currently sulking a bit after having his ears cleaned. Devons are notorious for greasy ears. If I forget to do them I find bits of brown earwax on my white cotton sheets! How's little fairy cat, Zara? And Beebs?

DeleteOrDecay · 11/08/2017 18:11

We're currently on Grau kitten food. Recently switched from Animonda Carney which was also good but we found Grau to be of better quality and dkitten likes more too(although it is more expensive as well).

BabychamSocialist · 11/08/2017 21:15

SocialistCats 1 and 2 are on Gourmet something or other, SocialistCat3 is on Royal Canin Sensitive Control one until her digestion is a bit better.

All three are on Purina One complete dry food.

CatchingBabies · 12/08/2017 08:37

My girls have a combination of ferringa, applaws, bozita and catz finefood wet. And applaws dry.

All grain free, high meat content from zooplus. The German brands are great quality food and cost less then the rubbish you can buy in supermarkets as well.

ocelot41 · 12/08/2017 08:38

Attempting to mask ground up worming tablet on toast chicken last night. Cat not having it. Sigh.

ocelot41 · 12/08/2017 08:39

Otherwise Royal Canin Aromatic

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 12/08/2017 08:56

Have you thought about Natures Menu pouches? At the moment Harry has a NM Country Hunter pouch for breakfast (only duck and pheasant, he's gone off the others) and a Hi Life tuna pouch for lunch. Dinner is either a normal NM pouch or a tin of Meowing Heads. He's on wet only as his jaw is unstable and gets worse if he has dry food.

That's until he changes his mind of course...

SerendipityFelix · 12/08/2017 09:06

Mine are on Lily's Kitchen wet (mature for old girl with digestive & joint supplements, various flavours adult for young boy) and James Wellbeloved Housecat dry. I get it on subscribe & save from Amazon so I dont have to think about it, just gets delivered each month automatically. Occasional royal canin young neutered male/senior stage 1 from work to change things up a bit on the dry front. Thrive white fish/tuna/shrimp freeze dried treats, and young boy will occasionally steal a whole raw mouse defrosted for the snake if it's left within his reach!!!

iloveeverykindofcat · 12/08/2017 12:34

Thanks for the suggestions! I forget NM did pouches, will take a look at the price - I hate buying things they then waste. Some of those German brands look really good and not too expensive. Beebs is thriving as ever, somewhat indignant about being on a diet but still living like a queen. Zara is, tentatively, starting to become a bit more like a real cat these days. She's the only one who'll go out the window staircase to their pen - I have to take Bibi down in her carrier, though she'll come back in on her own - and is navigating the new place with surprising dexterity and agility. She still can't come out from under a bed or shelf without whacking her head on whatever's above her, but one thing at a time...

I buy the NM pouches from Fetch, although I ordered the last lot direct as they've got a 10% discount in August. I don't think I'll be doing it again as they've messed the order up and have got to come back on Monday to swap for the right pouches. Fetch is much easier!

HipsterHunter · 12/08/2017 16:14

Royal Canin Sensitive because he has had a dodgy tummy for several weeks now but the vet says there isn't anything wrong with him.

RatOnnaStick · 12/08/2017 16:21

This is interesting Smile. We lost the Lion a couple of weeks ago and have a tray of Butchers tins to work through with the Snowshoe but he isn't all that keen. I've been trying a few trays and pouches and he's showing a distinct preference for pate chicken food. Lily's Kitchen (not mature) and Wainwright's (PAH) are coming out on top so I guess I shall be going that way with his food now.

ChishandFips33 · 12/08/2017 16:26

Lily's kitchen dry - she's nearly 18 with not many teeth left and these are a manageable size

She loves all flavours but seems to favour the mature

yawning801 · 12/08/2017 16:33

My DCat prefers Sheba over most other foods, although she is partial to the occasional Gourmet or Applaws. She hates jelly, most fish and most meats, so finding something new for her is a challenge! As for biscuits, she has Royal Canin at night in case she needs a snack (and they're always gone by morning) and GoCat during the day, supplemented with the odd Dreamie.

EachandEveryone · 12/08/2017 16:34

I have tons of Carny kitten going spare she just does not like the texture.

Does anyone know if Hills Science plan is any good as they are both on the dry food and like it.

My little one has a pouch of Hills wet a day and a pouch of felix and what's ever adult food the sister doesn't finish. I'm stuck on the felix for now tbh if it's just one a day I'm not losing any sleep over it.

The big one likes Sheba fine cuts/Hilife fish flavour/Sainsbury's Taste the Difference which looks really good and doesn't smell.

We go through so many different foods it does my head in tbh I'll be glad when they can both be on adult food. There's nothing we haven't tried and I've run out of storage space.

Ollivander84 · 12/08/2017 16:38

Natures menu pouches and Lily's kitchen dry. Am looking at animonda though

ChestnutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 12/08/2017 16:48

Royal Canin gastric and dental. They also share a tin of applaws chicken and pumpkin once a day. They look great, sleek coats, firm poops.

EachandEveryone · 12/08/2017 17:33

I've found the quality German stuff to be too hard and meaty my cats find it too hard work I think! They like a gravy.

iloveeverykindofcat · 12/08/2017 19:09

I've spent way too long going through Zooplus and we're trying some Smilla and some Animonda. Will report back. Each I know, we always joke the cats eat better than the humans around here, picking up the budget bread and apples from Tesco whilst carefully analysing meat products on various cat food sources Grin

OP posts:
CatchingBabies · 12/08/2017 19:27

Eachandeveryone - if your cat is used to gravy foods you can add some warm water to the zooplus pate foods to make a gravy, it's basically pure meat so they love that. Or Bozita is in gravy if all else fails.

My older cat liked her gravy so that's what I did, the kittens have gone straight into the hard pate foods with no issues.

Virtually all top foods will be quite meaty though, you can't call something 80% meat if half the tin is gravy so they don't add it. Most don't mind those that do you can add water.

dementedpixie · 12/08/2017 19:34

I tried bozita and feringa and other decent foods from zooplus but my two ended up not eating it so it got donated to the rspca bin in tesco. They have AVA dry kitten food from pets at home and it is grain free with 66% meat. They eat adult Sheba and gourmet perle pouches - 2 each per day.

I stopped getting worked up about the wet food as I would rather they ate something than nothing.

dementedpixie · 12/08/2017 19:35

P.s. mine don't seem to like pate style foods and prefer chunks/ flakes

sweetkitty · 12/08/2017 19:39

Royal Canin Renal dry and wet now

Before that Millie's Lionheart as he kept stealing the dogs food
