I have no choice because she has a tumour on her mammery glands that erupted externally on Sunday night, it's now very big and will get infected. She's fine in herself and still eating and having little walks around but I have to let her go before she becomes ill. She was a stray so I don't know how old she is, approximately 16-18, and I've had her for 9 1/2 years. She's been thoroughly spoilt in that time and has gone from cowering under the bed for a month when we first had her to being able to be picked up for a while. I'm having the vet come to the house to do it because I don't want her to be scared or stressed at the end. Don't know why I'm posting really, just sad. She's such a loving cat and I will miss her so much Sad

oh dear i am sorry for you .i have a cat who was a stray and i would miss him if anything should happen .just think you gave her a good home for the last nine years .i hope you have someone with you to help you get through this

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 05/07/2017 10:23

Thank you. My partner's here, he's currently digging a hole in the back garden so she can buried with our other old rescue cat Sad We have another cat who's currently sleeping on the bed, I'm going to let her see Mia after she goes so she understands. It's absolutely the right thing to do, I don't want her to suffer, but it's still very upsetting

So sorry Chief. It's a very sad time for you and such a difficult decision to make. I have a very old boy who's close to the end and I'm very stressed about it. I'm glad that your vet is coming to your home, Its a lovely thing to do for your Dcat.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 05/07/2017 11:25

Thanks Want2beme I'm sorry to hear about your DCat, they really do become part of the family, don't they. It is very stressful at this point but I can see that's she's not going to last much longer anyway so I want her to go peacefully. Still waiting for the get at the moment, madam is dozing in her basket with her head on the rim, using it like a pillow as she always does Grin

Really sorry to hear about this. It's horrible having to have them put down, but you've given her a great time for over half her life and clearly you're making the right decision. Flowers

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 05/07/2017 11:45

I'm so sorry - it's hard to have to let them go, but you're sparing her from certain suffering.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 05/07/2017 11:46

Thanks Grumpy and everyone. I just needed to vent a bit and partner's too upset to talk about it. Had a call just now, they're on their way. She's had salmon for breakfast, a little potter around the garden in the sun and is now snoozing, so she's had a lovely last day Smile

I'm so sorry Chief. You are giving a much loved cat the final kindness of sparing her suffering. I think you're lovely for getting the vet out to her so she can have her lovely last day at home Flowers

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 05/07/2017 12:32

Thanks all, it's done. She panicked a bit when she saw the vet (she gets nervous of strangers) and ran off so I had to hold her pretty tight to stop her gettin away, her heart was beating so fast Sad But she did relax once she was on my lap and I was making a fuss of her so I think she was OK in the end. DP is making sure the hole is big enough to bury her in ATM. Other cat has seen her body but doesn't seem to understand or care tbh.

In one last defiant act, she wee'd all over me and the chair when she went, a final up yours Grin I feel almost relieved now it's done. She's currently lying in her bed with her tounge poking out, which is very her

Flowers so sorry. You have done the right thing for her.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 05/07/2017 13:13

Thank you, I know logically I have but it takes a while for it to sink in. I felt awful chasing her around trying to catch her knowing it was to kill her Sad But she didn't know that, it was just the smell of the vet I think. She's buried in the garden now, next to our other old cat, wrapped in her blanket

I'm very sorry, it's heart breaking. I hope you don't mind me saying, and you probably are already aware, please put a paving stone over her grave, you don't want the red bushy tailed dog interfering. Xx

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 05/07/2017 13:32

Thank you, yes there's a stone over her with a tarpaulin on top for the moment. DP is going to recheck it tomorrow once it's settled a bit. We're going to get some plants to put over the top of them; we did plant some when we buried the first cat but there are tree roots in the soil that killed them, so they will be potted plants. Maybe something orange and white because Sue was ginger and Mia was white with black markings Smile

I'm so sorry. She looks so sweet.

newestbridearound · 05/07/2017 13:41

What a beautiful cat she was. I'm so sorry Flowers we had to have one of ours pts a fortnight ago- it was the right thing to do for him but it's heart breaking all the same.

BrollyDolly · 05/07/2017 13:43

Sorry for your loss. Couldn't live without my baby Flowers

Clg199 · 05/07/2017 14:00

Sorry to hear about your lovely cat. Relief was what I have felt after both of my dogs were put to sleep. They are not in pain anymore and you know that they lived out their days very much loved. It still hurts terribly though, you have my sympathies.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 05/07/2017 16:53

Thanks everyone, feeling a little numb to it now. DP says he's expecting to come home to find another rescue installed on the sofa Grin Maybe not today but my mam is already trying to get me to look at a cat that was taken in to vet surgery a friend of hers works at. I am going to get another rescue, only one though, DP won't allow more than 2 at a time damn him because I just want to give a good life to one that's had a hard time
Only thing is I'm not sure about how long to leave it for the other cat to get used to her not being here. She wasn't really close to Mia, they never cuddled up and Mia would look out for her, but I think that was just due to having had her own kittens. Toots never seemed to care about Mia, sadly, and I'm not sure she understood she was gone when she saw her body. She's a bit thick tbh! But she's good with other cats, gave Mia a lead down the stairs when they first met because Mia was too nervous to come down - she would run up to us then kept going back to get her. Any thoughts or experience?

newest and Clg199 I'm sorry to hear about your losses, it's so heartbreaking to have a let them go even when you know for sure it's the right decision
