Is four too many cats?

SentientCushion · 29/06/2017 23:37

Ok I'm the worst fosterer ever. There's no way I can give up the little stray that I've been rearing I think once you've wiped somethings bum to make it wee then you have a bond.
But I've also fallen in love with another of the kittens who is just the sweetest little thing, so cuddly and affectionate with the softest fur, I lurve her and I need to keep her.

That will mean I have four cats, that's an acceptable number right??

Photos attached as dictated by law

You can never have too many! I have 5.... but really want another!

MycatsaPirate · 30/06/2017 19:08

spanish Give lots and lots of attention to existing cat but also try getting treats they both love and getting them into the same room to eat them.

We have four cats, all rescues. They are 13.5, 11, 5 and 3. Dp says it's 3 too many but what does he know??

I've only got one old 17 year old puss just now sitting in my lap as we speak, can't get anymore wouldn't be fair on him although I think he would live to see a kitten beat the dog up.

iloveeverykindofcat · 30/06/2017 19:15

Depends entirely on the cat I have two, and each wants individual fuss tim, though they get on fine and sometimes they even have a little nuzzle/mutual groom. I don't think I'd get any more because one of mine is a human trapped in a cat's body very high maintenance. She needs a lot, and gives a lot.

RubbishMantra · 30/06/2017 19:19

Ooh, I'm not surprised you wanted to adopt them, they are beautiful. And if you've bonded, well that's just happy fate...

Spanish, have you tried them on Zylkene? It's a non addictive animal calming drug. Non addictive, because it's derived from milk proteins. Can be bought from Amazon much more cheaply than vet's. Just try them with a saucer of milk first to see if DCats are lactose tolerant. Also ensure they have places to get away from each other. High up deep shelves covered in carpet offcuts are good.

GertyTheGert · 30/06/2017 19:34

Ohmigawd what an ADORABLE kitty! Four is never too many - I live in a flat and we had three cats at one point so 4 in a house/bungalow is fab! I am still pining for my faithful boy who died on 25th May - I cry most nights still :-(

SentientCushion · 30/06/2017 19:35

pirate more like one DP too many!

Two is enough.

And I am at home most of the day, I live surrounded by woods well away from roads, I have a garden and enough space.

But cats do make the house smell smell sometimes.
They sometimes vomit or get diarroea,
They bring in birds
Vet bills cost money.

tabbymog · 30/06/2017 20:00

Four is a good number!

I'm a mad cat lady and this is the mad cat, a not-quite-so-slinky-as-he-used-to-be, badass black cat. He was just helping me unpack after moving house. His housemate, an enormous tabby and white had given up helping and crashed out in the half-empty box I'd been unpacking. No photo of that, though.

tabby Now that is an intelligent face!

Haint · 30/06/2017 20:10

My neighbour has got 4. And I've got 56 poos in my garden each week.

Five here - we were down to 4 but I pointed out to DH that it wasn't fair on the single boy to be outnumbered by girls.
Of course, he hated the new male addition! But today after three months I bought them lying down on the patio together so I think they are resigned to one another.

tabbymog · 30/06/2017 22:05

OP, I wouldn't be able to resist your two kittens!

iloveeverykindofcat

More like devious and cunning I'm afraid. He was looking at a squirrel in his new domain and probably thinking 'lunch!'. I just hope there are no kids near here with pet rabbits in their garden, he has form. Last year I saw a dead one I recognised as a pet, on my front path. Their Dad said he had to build a better, fox-proof, hutch for them. I'm afraid the poor rabbit was disposed of in my dustbin.

I love him to bits, though, and he gets on well with my tabby, they bonded in Cats Protection six years ago.

SentientCushion · 30/06/2017 22:13

Ok the biguns are being a bit hissy, will this pass?

lovemycatsanddog · 30/06/2017 23:07

I would recommend Zylkene too, its very calming, cheaper on the internet ,

Seeingadistance · 01/07/2017 01:35

I'm now up to 4 cats. Went to adopt a kitten - just the one!

There were two kittens.

Sisters.

Couldn't just take one, could I?

Of the two cats I already have - one is sulking on my bed, the other took himself off out in a mood, and won't likely be back till breakfast time.

Kittens!!!!!

Clalpolly · 01/07/2017 07:43

Google Jackson Galaxy - US cat behaviourist. He has a programme "my cat from hell" on animal planet.
He says the key to multicast households is plenty of litter trays if indoor and plenty of vertical space used so the cats can pass each other without getting in each other's faces - shelves, roosting spots. He has a YouTube channel too. Looks like a smartened up hells angel. Totally changed my approach to cat owning for the better.

yaela123 · 01/07/2017 08:30

I know someone who had 17 cats!

A single mum and her teenage son - they lived in a 6th floor flat and the cats were never allowed out, I think it's a bit cruel really

Don't know how many they have now as we lost touch but could well be more

tabbymog · 01/07/2017 08:30

My two share this cat tree; it was expensive, yes, although on offer when I bought it. Black boy is temperamental and likes to be separate from his housemate on occasions. It really needs to be fixed to the wall but I can't do that until I've made the curtains and blinds and see where it can go. It's a great scratching post, they leave the furniture alone; play centre, sleeping place, and somewhere to watch the wildlife outside and plot murder.

IrritatedUser1960 · 01/07/2017 08:39

Arghhhhhhh stop it I want another one!!!

TheCatOfAthenry · 01/07/2017 14:06

My two love this. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01LXTO7C3/ref=mpssa1120?ie=UTF8&qid=1498914248&sr=8-20&pi=ACSX2366SY340QL65&keywords=cat%2Btree&th=1&psc=1

So cheap you could probably get about 3 and provide a feline wonderland!

SentientCushion · 01/07/2017 15:06

We already have a huiuuuge cat tree that the kittens are loving.

TheCatOfAthenry · 01/07/2017 17:00

Well then four is the absolute perfect number.

Five might be better, though. Wink

ladystarkers · 01/07/2017 17:01

These are the Stark kittens right? Gorgeus. Only worry I'd have is what will your current cats make of them?
