First night with kitten and I feel like she hates it here :(

Her sister is jumping round and playing like a lunatic, though is not that interested in me.

But she's been under the sofa pretty much the whole evening. Not eaten or used the litter tray. Not sure if she's weed/ pood, but can't smell anything.

What can I do? I feel so sad that she's missing her mum and she's maybe hungry and scared Sad

Most cats HATE new places. Your new lunatic is the odd one in this picture. Just let things be peaceful until scaredy cat knows she's safe. Usually within 3 days.

Justmadeperfectflapjacks · 14/06/2017 21:44

It won't be long until you are her dm and she loves her new home!! She will come out when her little tummy starts rumbling!!
But mn have rules about kittens. .

Pics. .

And names. . .

Bufferingkisses · 14/06/2017 21:47

She probably does! Put yourself in her shoes. Don't worry though, it will pass very quickly, she just needs to learn to feel safe first Smile

mayoli · 14/06/2017 21:48

This is normal, don't worry! She'll come out of her shell soon.
As PP said, the cat who is behaving happily is the one who is a bit abnormal here :)

DaisyChaining · 14/06/2017 21:49

She's at the edge of the underneath of the sofa sad meowing. Shall I try and pick her up and put her on the sofa with her sister or just leave her?

Ahhh I don't want to out myself 😬 but I have a different name for them and posted about them the other day with a picture asking for name suggestions. Still not decided Blush

Will use my other name and post lots of cat photos through the years I promise Smile mad cat has just come and sat on my lap. Heaven, so in love with them both.

It's all very new to her. She'll come round soon. It took Ozzy a couple of days and I was worried like you, but he soon settled.

DaisyChaining · 14/06/2017 21:49

Cross posted. Phew! So glad it's normal. Will leave her to it, shy little mite.

I'd pick her up and cuddle her or sit her with her sister.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 14/06/2017 21:51

Ours were adopted by mutual agreement from neighbours. They had been more or less living wild, were a few months old. Took one of them two weeks to even come inside. Guess which one is round my feet wanting a stroke now. He is still a bit cautious around strangers but with the family he is cuddly and friendly.

DaisyChaining · 14/06/2017 21:52

Oh, ok. I'll do that. Just didn't want to miss and then her be even more scared

NC4now · 14/06/2017 21:52

Oh I cross posted! She will be ok though.
Oz didn't eat but he did like his kitten milk. still does and he's nearly one

Want2beme · 14/06/2017 21:53

She's a little bit scared, that's all. Give her a few days, or less, and she'll be better. At least she has her sister with her and she'll learn from her. Does she have a little box that she can disappear into, with somethng soft in it for her to lie on? Her sister would probably like that as well. She needs to be able to retreat to somewhere quiet. She'll settle soon. Have fun!

DaisyChaining · 14/06/2017 22:00

Yes, I've got them a really comfy enclosed cat bed that they haven't even glanced atSad although I wouldn't mind if they slept in my bed, I luffs them Grin gonna sleep down here tonight anyway in case they get sad or need me. Crazy cat keeps climbing up from underneath the sofa next to radiator and popping up right next to me. She's really funny. Think I'm a crazy cat lady already.

Good luck getting any sleep with the crazy one around. Grin I still remember my kitten hiding under the coffee table 45 years ago. Took her a while but all normal and cuddly in time. Ah, I'm jealous now. Dh allergic. Sad

DaisyChaining · 14/06/2017 22:20

Go on then, had to add some pictures Grin

I put her food bowl next to the sofa. Wouldn't eat it so put it underneath. The breeder said they poo straight after eating so put litter tray right next to sofa but she's just underneath still sad crying. I don't mind if she poos, not the end of the world but shall I leave litter tray in here and the food because she's probably not brave enough to walk to the kitchen (literally 2 metres away from the sofa to be fair)?

Allergictoironing · 14/06/2017 22:25

I would leave them together with all they need in the one room tonight, and go to bed to leave them in peace. Took days before either of mine (adults) were even seen by anyone, but they had been out during the night to eat & use the litter tray.

DaisyChaining · 14/06/2017 22:27

Aw, ok I'll do that. Will mean I'll have to move this little angel though Sad

I gave my kitten my fluffy dressing gown when she first arrived, lonely and scared. She loved snuggling up to it.

Want2beme · 14/06/2017 22:33

She'll pop out when she's really hungry. Yes, leave her litter tray close to her, but not beside her food. Cats don't like to go do their toilet near their grub. Have you got any kitten milk to give her?

DaisyChaining · 14/06/2017 22:35

No, the lady at pets at home said not to bother 🙄 will get some tomorrow. Yeah, they're not next to each other.

Thanks everyone. Just hope she's happy here. Glad she has her sister.

OP posts:
zeeboo · 14/06/2017 22:40

There is no need for kitten milk and many cats won't drink it, so the lady in PAH was very honest! Most shops would happily have told you it was essential and wasted your money.

wtffgs · 14/06/2017 22:44

Awww!

Try a Feliway spray or plug-in. I think it's a synthetic version of mum-cat hormones?

They are adorable!!

NC4now · 14/06/2017 23:28

Ozzy's breeder sent him with some milk as he was only eight weeks. She said he loved his milk and was always first onto his mum when it was feeding time, so to just give it him in the evening for the first week, then wean him off. A year on, he still drinks it! softy
I don't mind as he eats mostly dry food, so I think it's good for his pee pipes to have the extra liquid.

NC4now · 14/06/2017 23:30

Posted too soon - you don't need milk though. It's just a comfort thing that Oz likes but not essential.

DaisyChaining · 14/06/2017 23:58

She's out! Had a poo and is now munching away with her sister. Yay! 😻 so proud of her.
