Bob Martin Spot on - I am terrified!

I administered Bob Martin's Spot on for fleas to my cat earlier today. She's had lots of similar stuff in the past but not this (she is 13). She has been sleeping or drowsy ever since.

I love my cat but my DD (at university) loves her more than anything in the world. Is this a normal side effect? Should I be as worried as I am?

Thanks catneuterer I think it's reaction on my part. I was terrified that I had poisoned her.

Oh no! I tried that stuff on my cats and they both meowed so much and started attacking the sun behind their neck! I think it burned them or stung a little so rinsed it off. They were fine, stick to advocate now it's much better

cleanlaundry · 16/05/2017 00:09

Skin not sun. Hope your kitty is ok now

Wolfiefan · 16/05/2017 08:03

How is she this morning? Did you get some sleep?

LobsterQuadrille · 16/05/2017 08:07

I was just going to post a huge thank you to everyone who replied to me last night. She is absolutely fine this morning - in fact she developed a new lease of life at 3am and wanted constant attention which, I confess, I was happy to give. Hard to believe that she appeared to have sunk into a coma last night!!

Oh well. Maybe someone will google the horrible Bob Martin products and find this thread!

Huge relief.

Cordelia this morning!

Huge relief indeed. It's daft how happy we feel when they start behaving like little buggers! One of my girls wouldn't get off the bed and go out the other morning. She was quiet and didn't want food or fuss etc. I was convinced she was sick. The relief when she whizzed out the door and started winding the dog up! Grin

LobsterQuadrille · 16/05/2017 08:12

I suppose that, like us, they have their moods. As you said, they're just unable to explain them. I do't even care about being so tired - the alternative would have been unthinkable!

I'm so glad your gorgeous cat's ok OP! I gave my (16 year old) cat Bob Martin flea treatment last year, it paralysed her back legs and she had to be PTS.
Not sharing this to scare or upset you, but like you say hopefully the more people come across what that awful stuff can do the better.
Like you I assumed as it was in the supermarket it was fine, only gave her half a dose as well because she was small.

LobsterQuadrille · 16/05/2017 08:24

Oh my goodness Perpetual that is awful! I'm so, so sorry to hear that and in the nicest way I'm glad I didn't know that last night, if you know what I mean. I kept one hand on Cordelia half the night to check that she was ok and this morning all is back to normal. The vet I called last night said this stuff isn't even effective - surely they've had complaints??

Glad your gorgeous girl is okay. I put Bob Martin on mine many years ago and wasn't sure if they were right afterwards, I found out later that lots experience problems. I tend to use Advantage which has been fine on mine.

LobsterQuadrille · 16/05/2017 08:36

ifonly4 I still find it hard to believe that shops are selling this toxic stuff after all the horror stories - it should have been removed from the shelves! After a horrible evening, of course she is still scratching ..... so it was all in vain! I'll be seeing the vet for advice.

No, thank you for posting this thread Lobster. I have bought these products years ago but found them totally useless which is why we now go to the vets for treatments. Like I said last night I was unaware of any side effects so I'm grateful to be informed. So glad Cordelia is happier today.CakeBrew

Thank you Maud. Smile

Thank you Lobster, don't worry, I know was you mean - I wouldn't have shared if your girl hadn't been happy and healthy this morning.

WowserBowser · 16/05/2017 09:24

Oh my! She is beautiful! Glad she's ok Bear

Wolfiefan · 16/05/2017 09:28

Advocate from the vet is good. Avoid Frontline. Often ineffective.

Wolfiefan · 16/05/2017 09:29

Oh and if you need to treat the house Indorex is the stuff!

Maudlinmaud · 16/05/2017 09:39

Indorex. Good to know. We had fleas leaping about all over the house last year. I hoovered the life out of the place was slightly worried about the warmer weather recently incase I had missed any. Do fleas hibernate?

Vinorosso74 · 16/05/2017 11:15

Phew. Pleased she's ok. She's a beautiful cat.

AliCat36 · 16/05/2017 12:17

Maudlin they don't hibernate but they can stay dormant for months. Warm weather or central heating will usually wake them. Vibration from a hoover or an animal being around usually does the trick too. If you've had the heating on over the winter & not seen them, fingers crossed you'll be ok. Spray some Indorex or similar around anyway just to be sure. Horrible little things!

Maudlinmaud · 16/05/2017 12:53

Ta AliCat36. I hope so too. I was seriously peeved last year.

LobsterQuadrille · 16/05/2017 13:08

Thank you! We think she's gorgeous too Smile.
