Fattycat has fractured/ dislocated her jaw again.

Just beginning to relax about Fattycat's jaw after almost a month with no problems. Came back from the Easter vigil to find her with her mouth open again. Took her straight to the veterinary hospital that treated Snorg. They are going to x Ray her and if it's dislocated wire her jaw if it's fractured fix it. She needs to have it permanently fixed. This can't keep happening. Supposed to be going away overnight tomorrow. Sad

Aw bless her! Do you think she is finding her feet a bit and doing weird 'cat things' and hurting herself? To be honest Toddler I would take her to the better place in Birmingham and hopefully get it sorted once and for all. Particularly if she travels well.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/04/2017 19:46

I have wondered if it'd because she has got a bit more adventurous. Climbing in things she's never climbed on. Running round the house like a mad thing etc. I'm not sure these feeder things are going to be a success.

What feeders are they Toddler? Maybe someone could help?

Honestly, that would be my thinking. She's leaping around, climbing in boxes and being A Cat! Which is lovely Smile.

Just a thought, I'm not sure of all the details but I know your girls didn't have the best start. They were breeding Queens, is that right? Is it possible to have a bone density scan? Maybe that has suffered and can be resolved? Might be causing problems now she is more active?

HemanOrSheRa · 17/04/2017 20:00

Lot's of ????? there. Sorry Blush.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/04/2017 20:14

They are sure flap microchip feeders. You have to train them to use them. One of my Facebook friends said it took 3 weeks for her cat to learn how to use them. And her cat probably has brain cells. Yes they were breeding queens. I would have thought any bone density problems would have shown up on x Ray. There seems to be a lot of evidence of healing on x Ray. So it was probably just bad luck. Insisting on eating hard food probably didn't help either.

Bone density doesn't show up on an x ray for humans unless there is advanced osteoporosis. I suppose it's the same for cats. It was just a thought though Smile. I'm glad she is doing Catty Things Grin.

cozietoesie · 17/04/2017 23:32

I'm so sorry that it's repeated, Toddler.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/04/2017 10:30

She's going to be seen by an orthopaedic surgeon on Monday. Eating enough wet food but don't think either of them are overly happy about it. They keep looking at me expecting dreemies. Sad

Vet wants her to be seen sooner than Monday so going on Thursday. She seems her usual self but unimpressed by wet food.

cozietoesie · 18/04/2017 11:45

Good luck to her. (I'm glad she's going a bit earlier.)

Wolfiefan · 18/04/2017 11:51

Good luck. The sooner you see a specialist the better.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/04/2017 12:05

Yes. I'm really impressed with this place from my dealings with them so far. My parents would have taken her tomorrow but I could t get time off work and I think she'll be better going with me. But they'll come and stay with her when I'm at work on Thursday night.

After 4 days of eating wet food the novelty is wearing off and she's not eating much because she wants her biscuits. Would it be really bad to give her some softened with salmon oil? She needs to be nil by mouth for the vets and if they keep her in she'll refuse to eat.(she always does) so really want her to have a good fill up tonight. We were all much happier when she went back on to biscuits before.

cozietoesie · 19/04/2017 18:12

Remind me - when is she to be at the vets?

Toddlerteaplease · 19/04/2017 18:32

8.30 tomorrow morning

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 19/04/2017 18:39

What do you think the vet would say? Wink

Toddlerteaplease · 19/04/2017 18:53

Hmm I think he'd probably understand. The vet last time were happy for her to go back to biscuits if it was all she'd eat.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 19/04/2017 19:46

Hmm indeed. Personally, I wouldn't given her problems.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/04/2017 20:18

No I've soaked some in water and salmon oil. But she's had some pate. Not supposed to eat after 8 but I'll leave it till I go to bed as I've only just got in.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 19/04/2017 20:20

Best remove it now if she's likely to be put under tomorrow.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/04/2017 20:31

We tried softening Harry's biscuits in water but he wouldn't entertain the idea and looked at me as though I was mad to think he would!

Good luck to you and Fatty tomorrow from Harry and I.

cozietoesie · 19/04/2017 20:32

Yes - poor lass. All the best for tomorrow.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/04/2017 10:09

Madam has seen the vet. He thinks it's a dislocation rather than a fracture. Her history is a puzzle as it's very unusual to have non traumatic jaw dislocations. He's going to CT her and try and induce another dislocation to see why it's happening. There are treatment options but they are limited due to the shape of her face. Or it may be that I just learn to pop it back in if it comes out. The centre seems amazing so I'm quite relaxed and going to go to a nearby NT property. Am on nights tonight do my parents might have to pick her up but hopefully she'll be done in time for me to get her. My dad will stay at mine tonight to keep an eye on her.

cozietoesie · 20/04/2017 10:35

I'm glad you found somewhere to go. I can't help but wonder whether it's mostly down to her bone structure. (The first occurrence that is - and maybe that set up some sort of weakness.) The experts will opine later no doubt.

Good luck and let us know how she gets on.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/04/2017 18:22

The vet was unable to dislocate it again. The scan showed no fracture and no abnormality which is great news. The plan is to watch and wait. If it happens again he'd want to CT it while it's dislocated. But I'm not that happy about driving for over an hour with her if she's in pain. Good chance it won't happen again though. But we'll just have to see what happens. Made it home in time for my night shift. She's eaten some food. And my dad will be here to cat sit after going to the cinema.
