She's in labour!

First stage labour, lots of skin twitching and discomfort and thinking she needs to mate. Shall we try for a live birth thread?

It's a difficult one.

I live in an urban environment so I'd have her down to a vet for checking. (It would be pretty quick and easy for me.) I appreciate that your situation is a bit different.

One thing I'd do in her case, though, is to ignore her - after checking that all exits and entrances are secure - and get some rest yourself. It sounds as if you have a bit of a madam on your hands so I suspect that fussing might actually be counter-productive.

Ooh. Another pregnant/not pregnant. Will she, won't she cat labour thread. Exciting! Not

WingsAloft · 12/03/2017 18:41

Yes, thank you Shelley. Not helpful. We had a recent bereavement with our other foster cat's pregnancy so I'm finding this situation quite distressing.

cozietoesie · 12/03/2017 18:48

No advances or changes at all?

WingsAloft · 12/03/2017 19:01

It's 5am and she is climbing the walls trying to get out of my room. She still looks pregnant but this behaviour seems too intense to be late pregnancy hormones.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 12/03/2017 19:07

Achh. Did you manage any rest?

WingsAloft · 12/03/2017 19:15

A couple of hours Sad No chance of more now. She's started yowling.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 12/03/2017 19:19

It sounds like a heat, doesn't it? I'd leave her to it and go to another room. (Or get her to a vet to check her out.) I doubt you have other options although maybe another poster can think of one?

WingsAloft · 12/03/2017 19:25

I've let the rescue know what's happening. There's not much else I can do.

She came to me with injuries that looked like a car strike around her hips and tail. They told me they thought she was pregnant but it's not unreasonable to suppose the trauma led to her resorbing the kittens. I guess the hormones continued on.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/03/2017 19:26

It doesn't sound right at all, does it?.

WatcherOfTheNight · 12/03/2017 19:43

Take no notice of the odd negative post Wings, there are many us us who are excited as we've posted as such !

Sometimes I think people don't realise a post is in "litter tray" or "dog house" they just scroll through active & assume all boards are like AIBU ....

WatcherOfTheNight · 12/03/2017 19:46

Just read your updates, have the rescue offered any advice at all?

WingsAloft · 12/03/2017 19:55

It's still very early here so if they have any sense they're all still asleep and haven't seen my message. I expect they will wait until she seems to be off heat then send her off for spaying. If she has a kitten before then, well I guess that will answer the question.

I'm starting to think this fostering gig is more heartache than it's worth.

cozietoesie · 12/03/2017 19:57

I reckon you've just landed two difficult cases, that's all. Plain sailing from now on, hopefully. Smile

cozietoesie · 12/03/2017 20:00

This one is so very beautiful that she'll likely find a permanent home as quick as quick as well. Smile

saffronwblue · 12/03/2017 20:14

I think we must be in the same time zone. You are doing such a great thing fostering - hope this cat's hormonal circus doesn't put you off.

WingsAloft · 12/03/2017 20:27

hormonal circus
Perfect description!

She is gorgeous. I know this is a better outcome for her. It's just sad for the humans who were expecting a new life in the house.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 12/03/2017 20:32

There will be a time. Smile

QuimReaper · 12/03/2017 21:59

How is she now?

picklemepopcorn · 12/03/2017 22:09

Was it you whose foster cat managed to sneakily give birth, but the kitten was never found? That was sad, I really felt for you. I'm sorry you've had two hard cases in a row. Flowers
Thank you for helping the kitties no one else wants.

UnbornMortificado · 12/03/2017 22:51

I've been following your thread. It's such a worthwhile thing to do wings sorry your having a rough time of it.

HalfShellHero · 12/03/2017 23:05

Hope everything gets sorted soon op hopefully a vet can come and check on her x

Anonymous1112 · 13/03/2017 18:23

Hiya, I'm sorry to hear that you have concerns and am sending positive vibes for kitty and you x

WingsAloft · 14/03/2017 09:22

It was definitely a phantom pregnancy. She's had an intense heat and all of the pregnancy signs are subsiding. She's getting spayed next week.

The rescue folk are feeling sorry for us after so much disappointment in such a short space of time. I think they're going to send us some kittens to love Smile

Thanks for the supportive messages everyone. Sorry I couldn't deliver the promised kitten birth. At least this time there were no actual deaths.
