Neighbours seem to have left their cat behind

Our next door neighbours moved out on Thursday night.
They had two cats, mum cat and her kitten. The mum cat had the kittens less than a year ago. Most of them were sold however the neighbours decided to keep one kitten.

They did tell me that the kitten was causing problems in the house, it wasn't coping with being left for a long time during the day and it wouldn't eat the samefood as the mum cat and. It sometime scratching furniture. I did notice she seemed to be outside a lot more recently but didn't really think much of it.

So yesterday DS1 told me he thought he had seen the kitten but I said he probably hadn't and it was probably someone else's cat as the neighbours have left. However about an hour ago I could see the cat outside the neighbours house. She doesn't have her collar on though. So I tempted her into our house which is where she is now.

I have seen no sign of the mum cat so I am guessing that they have taken her and just left the kitten.

I don't really know what to do with her. She seems fine in herself but I think the neighbours have abandoned her here.

I am hoping you will have some advice on what to do with her.

Oh she's lovely! Mine is entertained by a ribbon on a stick type toy and a rattling ball he bats around
Cardboard horizontal scratchers are often in TK maxx, mine sleeps on his
I worried a lot about the costs before I got mine but he's proved pretty cheap

cozietoesie · 07/03/2017 14:14

Seniorboy only costs a bit now (vets and meds) because he wasn't insured - and lived so very much longer than expected. He's basically pretty low maintenance. Smile

HemanOrSheRa · 07/03/2017 14:16

Oh she is so pretty! And a fabulous name - all the best cats are called Pip Grin. Here's my little Pip Smile. Enjoy your new job as cat slave!

I really hoped this would be the news when I saw this thread on active. Fantastic news.
I would ensure she is chipped and registered to you when she's neutered. I'm a horrid old cynic. I would hate you to pay for vaccinations and neutering and then have old neighbours come and try and take her back. Shock

cozietoesie · 07/03/2017 14:19

No one came looking for The Lodger.

More fool them! Grin

LowDudgeon · 07/03/2017 16:13

She only goes if the kids are out with her and she sticks close to them and follows till they come back in. I think maybe she is worried that we won't let her back in if she stays outside by herself

oh the poor little love!

she is gorgeous & I'm so glad you are keeping her Smile

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/03/2017 16:17

I'm really pleased you're keeping her. She's a beautiful girl & tortoiseshell cats have bags of personality.

Poor pip knows she's been abandoned by the sound of it too. The turning point will be when she's secure enough to stay out after you've shut the door.

cozietoesie · 07/03/2017 16:23

And if she's happiest inside with you all then that's fine also. Smile

LegoWalker · 07/03/2017 17:31

HemanorShera your pip is lovely.
The DCs are over the moon that we are keeping her. We have been out and they each picked a toy for her.
I am taking her to the vets tomorrow to get her registered there and microchipped

Well done you all. Smile

I bought a collapsible, fabric sided type cat carrier from b&m bargains for a tenner. If you're close to one, have a look. I'd recommend it.

BerylStreep · 07/03/2017 17:58

She's lovely! Enjoy.

I just bought a pet carrier from Home Bargains for £8.99. I think my cat is much happier in the smaller canvas one than in the rigid plastic carrier.

paddypants13 · 07/03/2017 18:06

Welcome to the world of a cat slave op. What a beautiful girl she is! She has landed on her paws finding such a caring owner.

Rescue pets are the best.

My cat is a fussy little madam but loves Aldi sachets, meat in gravy or Morrisons own chunks in gravy. She will only eat Go-cat dry food but it's often on offer. We use Aldi clumping litter.

MsMims · 07/03/2017 18:08

Oh she's such a pretty little thing!

Other posters will be better at giving you sums for daily things, we have a few more than one cat so hard to scale down the daily cost for one but insurance is absolutely essential if budget is a concern. Some people say they wouldn't give their pet expensive treatment but it's one thing to say that and another to deny your pet treatment when it would be curative and they would have a good quality of life afterwards. Petplan are the best and it means that your cat will have access to the gold standard of care should she become unwell.

Best of luck with her!

EachandEveryone · 07/03/2017 18:23

She is a really gorgeous girl. You might want to invest in some Feliway spray to help get her in the carrier.

LowDudgeon · 07/03/2017 18:40

needatrim I've got one of those too (mine is blue)

If I leave it out cats will sleep in it too Grin

LowDudgeon · 07/03/2017 18:43

OP, B&M are good for cat food, litter, dishes, toys, treats etc as well (if there's one near you)

Zooplus also great, have a massive range & free delivery over a certain amount.

GRW · 07/03/2017 18:50

What a beautiful cat she is, and I am sure she will be a lovely addition to your family. It's hard to understand how anyone could abandon her.

Weedsnseeds1 · 07/03/2017 18:58

I think we all knew you'd decided to keep her before you did! Smile

cozietoesie · 07/03/2017 18:59

Kittens come with 'The Cutes' attached but grown cats are - in some people's eyes, just 'boring'. They 'don't do anything', come with food and vet bills and - possibly most importantly - they won't just slavishly adore you as most dogs will. A good few young cats seem to be dumped, I fear. Sad

PovertyPain · 08/03/2017 21:39

Oh she is gorgeous. I'm so happy for little pip, because it sounds like she has a wonderful new forever home. ❤️

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/03/2017 21:42

I must be odd cozie (don't answer that!), I love kittens and I think they're adorable but I've never actually wanted one. Harry was 3 when we adopted him and he was definitely at the youngest end of the scale. I don't understand how people can dump an animal of any age

EweAreHere · 08/03/2017 22:09

Lucky Pip! Nice looking girl. :)

WhistlerGrey · 08/03/2017 22:16

I'm so happy little Pip has found such a lovely home with you and your children. I hope you all bring much happiness to each other.

tigerdriverII · 09/03/2017 05:48

Hooray!
