Neighbours seem to have left their cat behind

Our next door neighbours moved out on Thursday night.
They had two cats, mum cat and her kitten. The mum cat had the kittens less than a year ago. Most of them were sold however the neighbours decided to keep one kitten.

They did tell me that the kitten was causing problems in the house, it wasn't coping with being left for a long time during the day and it wouldn't eat the samefood as the mum cat and. It sometime scratching furniture. I did notice she seemed to be outside a lot more recently but didn't really think much of it.

So yesterday DS1 told me he thought he had seen the kitten but I said he probably hadn't and it was probably someone else's cat as the neighbours have left. However about an hour ago I could see the cat outside the neighbours house. She doesn't have her collar on though. So I tempted her into our house which is where she is now.

I have seen no sign of the mum cat so I am guessing that they have taken her and just left the kitten.

I don't really know what to do with her. She seems fine in herself but I think the neighbours have abandoned her here.

I am hoping you will have some advice on what to do with her.

I feed mine as much as he wants.

cozietoesie · 05/03/2017 19:22

I believe that latest guidance is to feed them through the squitters, Poverty. If they'll take it.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 05/03/2017 19:37

I feed mine a pouch morning and evening and a spoonful of biscuits at lunchtime. He's an 11 year old greedy gannet though.

LegoWalker · 05/03/2017 19:43

Thank you she had half a pouch of wet food this morning and I will give her the other half tonight. I have some dry biscuits out for her as well but she hasn't eaten them (am I supposed to do something to make them more appetising?)

Mine have frozen white fish (microwave for a few minutes) a few biscuits and a Sainsbury's own cat milk carton per day.
Cats love dreamies!

cozietoesie · 05/03/2017 20:09

She may not like dry, Lego. Some cats don't I fear. Smile

Weedsnseeds1 · 05/03/2017 20:12

Not all cats like dry, and they can be fussy little swine, even if they are starving hungry! You could try wetting the biscuits with water and see if that's more acceptable to her.

isadoradancing123 · 05/03/2017 20:21

If she is chipped won't it be to the address that they have now left ?

cozietoesie · 05/03/2017 20:23

I very much doubt she is chipped, isa. Sad

thecatneuterer · 05/03/2017 20:39

The chances of me winning the lottery (which I don't play) are greater than the chances of that cat being chipped (or neutered).

LegoWalker · 06/03/2017 20:46

Cat update- she was wasn't chipped or spayed, she's a bit underweight but in good health apart from that.
I have brought her back to ours for now while a decision is made about what to do next.

Ah. Smile

Wolfiefan · 06/03/2017 20:54

Oh bless. Is she staying?!?!

Londonjam · 06/03/2017 20:57

Ah bless her 😔

And bless you for taking her in

hollinhurst84 · 06/03/2017 21:03

Does she have a name? Wink

LegoWalker · 06/03/2017 21:07

I don't know if we will keep her yet, I need to work out costs etc first before I even consider it.
Yes she has a name though we have been using a shortened version while she has been staying with us.

Poor thing. What a shitty start in life.

SillyMoomin · 06/03/2017 21:11

Now you may be definitely will be keeping her, can we have a photo op?

Smile
Haffdonga · 06/03/2017 21:13

I think it's in the cat's best interest that you post a picture of her, don't you? You know, for erm, publicity or awareness-raising or something.

And then we can help you name her

cozietoesie · 06/03/2017 21:14

Some of the very best cats are those that just 'turn up'. They choose you. Smile

tigerdriverII · 06/03/2017 21:16

Picture or we don't believe you. Grin

cozietoesie · 06/03/2017 21:17

You might - 'might' - be able to obtain some financial assistance with spaying etc. Other posters might advise on that. Smile

hollinhurst84 · 06/03/2017 21:25

Some links halfway down about neutering
https://www.catchat.org/index.php/cat-kitten-neuter-spay

Main costs for me are insurance (£10 a month), food, litter, worming (cheap) and flea treatment

LegoWalker · 06/03/2017 21:42

Please could some of you give me an idea of how much your cat's cost.

OP posts:
LegoWalker · 06/03/2017 21:47

And what food and litter you buy for yours please.

Basically I'm asking what you need to look after a cat and how much it costs long term.
